Hi everyone,
I wanted to share my experiences with Elvanse and Escitalopram and hope you can give me some advice or tips.
In August 2022, I was put on leave from work due to mental health issues. I struggled with concentration, had difficulty making logical connections, and overthought everything. I also had severe anxiety in social situations. This led to a suspected ADHD diagnosis, and I was prescribed 30 mg of Elvanse in combination with 10 mg of Escitalopram.
Between October and December 2022, I felt better than ever before. The dosage of Elvanse was gradually increased to 70 mg at my request, as I wanted to see if there was even more room for improvement. For a while, everything seemed to be working well.
However, around mid-2023, I developed a sinus infection that was bothersome for months. Looking back, I now believe that I was taking far too high a dose of Elvanse from the very beginning. At the same time, the side effects of Elvanse became more noticeable: cold hands, heart racing, intense aggression toward the end of the day, a metallic taste in my mouth, and balance issues.
At the beginning of 2024, I reduced the dosage of Elvanse back to 50 mg. Looking back, I now believe that I was taking far too high a dose of Elvanse from the very beginning. I always assumed that the side effects were primarily caused by either Elvanse or Escitalopram, but I’ve since realized that some symptoms – like persistent arousal, heart palpitations, cold hands, mild breathing issues, aggression, and sweating – were due to excessively high doses of Elvanse. On the other hand, symptoms like sinusitis, headaches, and others seem to be linked to Escitalopram. I’ve started to doubt the ADHD diagnosis more and more, but I’ve noticed that my concentration is definitely better with Elvanse than without it. Throughout 2024, I experimented with different doses, sometimes skipping the medication entirely, and noticed that my sinus issues improved significantly.
Recently, I read in the Escitalopram leaflet that it can cause sinusitis. This made me think.
I’m still in the process of figuring out the right dosage for me. Ideally, I don’t want to take too much – 30 mg of Elvanse seems sufficient for me.
I’ve also tried 20 mg and even 10 mg for two days in a row (by splitting a 20 mg capsule). I noticed that my concentration isn’t much worse than with higher doses. It might be slightly better with more Elvanse, but I no longer experience the intense aggression and anger I used to feel.
The day before yesterday, I combined 20 mg of Elvanse with 10 mg of Escitalopram and immediately experienced the old symptoms like headaches and dizziness again. Interestingly, I always thought Elvanse was responsible for my mood improvement, but maybe it was actually the Escitalopram.
I plan to ask my psychiatrist if there are other antidepressants similar to Escitalopram that can stabilize my mental health without causing these side effects.
I’m particularly interested in:
- What can be done about the aggression that occurs with higher doses?
- How did you determine the ideal dosage for yourself? I’m still struggling to figure it out, but I think I’ve been taking too much.
- Would you recommend that I switch to a completely different medication? I've also tried Medikinet, but I don't like that it doesn't work as long as Elvanse.
- Are the feelings of aggression I experience in the evening part of the so-called "Elvanse crash"?

Hey guys it’s me… again. Anyways I’m on here more so seeking advice. So my POTS is not getting any better as of lately. It’s actually getting worse. I don’t know if it’s because of school or other stressors in my life, anyways It’s been taking a toll on me again. So let me get into it. So Monday I had my first ✨seizure✨ and it was the scariest thing to happen to me. Let me explain. I’m sick with that cold that everyone seems to have, no Covid, strep, or the flu, and it’s been making me have more flare ups than usual. So I go to my primary care DR and she prescribes me sudogest. LITTLE DID I KNOW. So I take the decongestant and my heart rate goes crazy (resting heart rate 135), my blood pressure drops, and next thing you know I faint and START SEIZING. Come to find out as someone with POTS you are forbidden from having any decongestant especially that one, and seizures are just another lil quirk of POTS. As my cardiologist said “in simple terms it’s just your brain throwing a tantrum because it doesn’t like what your body is doing.” Anyways for the past few months my POTS have now started to become disabling to where I’m missing work and school. I CANT AFFORD TO MISS WORK I AM IN DEBT. But I can’t seem to get out of bed some days, this may be a TMI but I’m also having issue with my bladder too now. I don’t want to be on disability and I have been fighting against it for a couple months but it’s now where I’m missing work and starting to make no money. Guys I legit only have $20 in my bank account, with bills due tmrw. I work two jobs and go to school full time for two majors. I’m only 21 I don’t want to be disabled but I don’t know what else to do. I can’t stand for too long or I faint, I can’t sit for too long or my circulation in my legs cuts off and I faint. I can’t be on the heat or cold for too long either. WHAT CAN I DO. I feel so helpless and useless guys. I can’t afford to keep missing school and work and I really don’t want to be on disability even if it’s just partial disability, but what else can I do. I need money as I am a college student in debt and I drive about 1hr and a half to school 3 days a week. I also live with my parents and most the time they have to drive me as sometimes I’m too dizzy too. Should I get disability? Am I even considered disabled? Am I crazy? HELP!! I’m just feeling really down rn and hopeless any advice would help.

 | I've never been to the dentist and my first ever appointment is Monday. Are my teeth cooked or do you think they could be saved with fillings? Except for that top molar with the pulp exposed, that one clearly has deeper issues, do you think they'll be able to do a rct on it or is it more likely to have to get pulled? I really don't want to lose my teeth. Also, is my case particularly bad? I'm worried the dentists will judge me since I'm quite young and just recently have been able to get my own dental insurance.
