 | I was prompted to have my bloods taken due to feeling off last September, fatigue, strange tingly sensation in my hands, migraines, blurred vision, thirst… you name it. At my first request my Gp turned me away and simply stated I don’t need one unless they ask for one. So I plodded along, symptoms still there on and off, then rolls around January this year… symptoms STILL persisting and this time I had to call an ambulance because I felt like I was dying. Fast heart rate, confusion, extreme exhaustion, cold sweats and a very strange metallic sort of taste in my mouth that intensified (only way I can describe it)… anyway, paramedics arrived, told I was having a panic/anxiety attack and left. That’s when I thought I really need to get checked out as my wife is already diagnosed pre diabetic. So I walk into my GP pretty much demanding I have a blood test because I think I’m either pre diabetic or diabetic. Cue 2 blood tests later due to a HbA1c reading of 53mmol average, I’m confirmed T2 diabetic as of yesterday. I had already made changes to my diet prior to being diagnosed as I was constantly drinking Pepsi Max Cherry and ordering fast food and eating rubbish, now I eat very little, cut out all sugars, stopped all junk food and I drink only bottled water. I know it’s more for T1 diabetics but I slapped on a Dexcom G7 to track my BG and well… here we are. Yesterday I felt awful all day, BG was 7.5 literally all day but my wife did a “healthy” bolognese thing with chopped tomatoes, kale, a small portion of lean mince and whole grain blue dragon noodles for tea the night previous… apparently all good to diabetics. Apparently not. Those symptoms lasted from the night previous, all through yesterday and seemed to have now disappeared. I have woken up today feeling refreshed and most important my migraine has gone! I’ll be staying away from red meat as I was fine with chicken. Hello reddit, I (19m) have been working at a factory for 2 years now, I started out as a labourer in the freezers and moved on to being a tracker (someone who fills product orders and loads them).
After 12 months I quit that job thinking it would be the end of it. I moved country to be with family and found out I had nothing in common with said family. So I moved back to my home country. Obviously I needed a job to make ends meet so I came back to the same job I had before working a different shift.
This shift had recently had someone leave and it needed someone to fill that position. Since I already had the experience they were looking for they took me back onboard. The person who left was in line to be promoted to team leader before leaving. Well since he left and I already knew everything I needed to about the job they picked me for it. I was team leader for a few months before I found out the supervisor was going on vacation and they needed someone to cover while he was gone, so I put my hand up for that.
After a month or so of extra training the supervisor went on holidays and I ran the show while he was gone. Eventually becoming a supervisor myself.
The issue I’m struggling with now is getting the respect of the other supervisors. They don’t say it to my face but I feel as if they believe I cheated to get where I am. The supervisor position is one that you usually only get after working at this place for a while (usually 10 years+). I’m feeling a lot of pressure form these guys to just give up and go back to what I was doing before.
Now I’m not bad at my job. Sure I make mistakes every now and then but everyone does. And it’s true I haven’t had as much experience as the others but I’m a quick learner and generally never make the same mistake twice. I’m fair to the people who work under me, some of whom also don’t respect me because of my age, and I don’t get mad or yell at anyone for mistakes they make. I understand all the rules, regulations and procedures that need to be followed in my department, and I have done a course in leadership.
My question is, how do I get these guys to come around? Should I just keep doing what I’m doing and not let it bother me, waiting for them to come around? Or should I just do what they think I should and quit?
I’m not a very confident person but I’m getting better, I’m just not sure how to go about this. Any advice would be greatly appreciated
