2025.01.31 03:29 Glacier8 Avoiding permit requirement for “egress” deck
My home has a paved atrium, with two sliding glass doors opening to the atrium. The atrium is one of 4 ways in/out of the house. One of the doors opens to 3 concrete steps. We want to nuke the concrete, including the steps, and install a 200 sq ft deck that will sit around 16” off the ground. There will need to be a step down from the door and a step or two down at the other end of the deck.
We live in Austin, where decks can be installed without permit provided: - 200 sq ft or smaller / check - Not 30” off ground / check - Does not provide egress
Does this constitute “egress” ? Is there a reasonable way to construct the deck so that it is not subject to the egress permit?
The space was noted as not up to code when we bought the home. The existing steps are too steep, cracked, there is no landing or rail.
Contractor says permit not needed but I know this is ultimately on me.

My baby was born 34.5 NICU, he was on neosure 24 cal formula and was doing well until 5 week but then his stomach got upset and we started seeing greenish yellow and then full greenish poop. Doctor did poop test and found some blood traces and recommended Similac alimentum/ Enfamil neutramigen and we did gave him that but he’s not liking it and reduced his feeding from 100+ ml to 40-60ml. He also has red hive on cheeks and neck.
We’re worried since he has not gained weight this week and not sure what to do. Any suggestions or experience greatly appreciated!

Hi all, this group was a lifesaver for me during the scary waiting weeks/months after our IC diagnosis so just wanted to post a really quick update. My wife was diagnosed with IC at 22 weeks, her length at that time was 1.75, no funneling. We had an emergency cerclage placed with 48 hours, during that time it shortened by another cm. She did modified bed rest for ~3 weeks and then took it very easy for the last months. Progesterone from cerclage to delivery.
We made it to 35 weeks and had a healthy little boy that needed just 8 days in the NICU. I wish I could give this positive outcome to all the people in this group. Sending love to all.

If you're in constant looping inner mental and physical torture but you can still manage to sleep, eat, do basic housework, usually can watch TV or go for a walk to distract (not always), drive, go out to shops, but are making it thru second to second doing all this and suffering extremely, are you in severe akathisia? Or could you not do any of that in severe? I can do this stuff most days but with horrific sensations, SI and terror on and off all day, waves of wanting to get out of my skin, rio off my arms and legs, thinking I won't make it and terrified for the next wave of indescribable symptoms to come over me. But I can do it technically cos I don't have movements so am I severe?

Because tomorrow at 6:20AM I am catching a plane with the bf and staying at his best friend's house in a different state for 4 days. I didn't want any issues while there, so figured I'd clean out.
