2025.01.31 04:53 Wingo-Lamo Very long vent/rant (apologies in advance) and advice needed about identifying unknown substance
My younger sister has struggled with drug addiction since the 1990s pill mill/opiate epidemic, and after several (clean) years in prison (and unbeknownst to her family for quite some time), she had run straight to the methadone clinic almost immediately upon her release.
Since then, she has been abusing prescription drugs while also displaying clear signs of illicit drug use over the years, including (but not limited to) systematically stealing pain meds from our sick (and later) dying parents, as well as stealing meds and money from her disabled boyfriend, sudden manic episodes where she is uncontrollably talkative, loud, squirmy, itchy, disruptive, and completely oblivious to the passage of time or the time constraints and/or moods of others. If she's not talking incessantly, she is humming...always humming. She's a compulsive shopper, a hoarder, and she has no concept of money or how to manage it, spending excessive amounts of money on scratch-off lottery tickets and insisting that she keeps careful track of her gains and losses to be sure she's always in the black. She has become so used to lying (I was going to say adept, but her lies have become so predictable and repetitive over the years that anyone with 1/2 a brain can see that she's full of shit.), that I'm convinced that she is no longer aware when she's doing it.
She regularly says she's "running to the store to get dog food, be right back." Or that she's "just gotta pee. Be right out." only to disappear for up to 40 minutes for the bathroom (Her go-to is "I needed to soak my feet" no matter what time of day or who may be waiting for her to "just pee") and up to several hours for the "quick errands", ALWAYS returning with some elaborate story about how "the card reader wouldn't take her debit card, so she had to go to the ATM, then the ATM ate her card, so she went back to the store and they had put her groceries back, and then when she came out, someone had hit her car and put a huge dent in it and then took off, and before all that, I ordered and paid for some food, but the restaurant was closed by the time she got back, and then the dog ate her homework and she fell into a well on the way home, finally being rescued by Lassie, etc. etc. ad nauseam." She's always losing shit, breaking shit, dropping shit, tripping over shit, and trashing shit, with not a shred of self-awareness or ability to see that her life has been this constant, swirling tornado of chaos for years, adversely affecting not only herself, but everyone in her orbit.
Fast forward to today, when a pouch fell out of her purse as I was helping her with the groceries, and it just happened to contain several fresh hypodermic needles with plastic caps, each containing approximately 40 units of an unidentified clear liquid. I must mention that this is the 2nd time I found such a pouch...the first time was while our beloved mother was actively dying in the other room under the care of hospice, so needless to say, I didn't have the time, the mental capacity, nor the energy to deal with it. That pouch contained 6 needles, some with clear liquid, and some with darker liquid that appeared to be a mix of blood and something else, as well as a tissue dotted with blood. When I quickly confronted her, she snatched it away and said that they were old needles that she had found while they were going through their storage unit and that she was planning on disposing of them. She knew that I knew that she was lying. She also knew that I didn't have the fucks to give at that moment.
Anyway, today, she quickly blamed it on her boyfriend, who has a serious degenerative neurological disorder and is under a strictly monitored drug regimen, so not only could any illicit drug use prove to be fatal, but because he is tested regularly, he would risk being kicked out of the treatment program. I'll add that I am very much aware that because of her years of addiction and trauma related to her addiction, my sister has become a pathological liar with a nasty case of narcissistic personality disorder. I'll also add that she works for a local medical professional, and she is the only employee in the office. And though I can't be sure what drugs (if any) are available in the office, it seems highly likely that this would be her source.
If you got this far, thanks for taking the time to read. Despite all of the above, I love my sister very much, and I miss the funny, highly intelligent, creative, loving, generous, and kind-hearted person that I've known her to be when she wasn't using. And now that we've lost both of our parents (dad in 2020, mom in 2024), more than ever, I desperately want her to get better so I don't end up losing her too.
So, any advice/feedback/input would be appreciated, but please be kind, as I'm still a bit fragile after losing my mom. And also, does anyone know if there is there a way for me to test this mystery substance at home? Thanks again.
