Good morning! I was recently elected to the board of my professional organization’s chapter, and I’m responsible for membership retention and recruitment. Our chapter focuses on higher education professionals in asset management, is based in California, and has members across 14 states. Since most of our meetings are virtual, outreach has been minimal or via word-of-mouth over the past two years.
Previously, membership drives involved reaching out to universities and inviting them to certain events. I’d love any advice on how to effectively connect with more universities and grow our chapter.
A few ideas I’ve considered:
- Sending personalized, "handwritten" cards to university asset managers who aren’t yet members.
- Creating a Facebook group (separate from the main organization, which focuses on the industry) as a space for university professionals to connect.
- Sending invitations to open chapter meetings to potential new members.

Just did some simple code examples, which all 3 models solved without Errors at first run. First example. Showing a Message Box in Windows 11, with two sliders to change sleep mode and sleep timer)
Result: They was almost all identical.
The second task/prompt was more interesting: "create a red 3d rotating triangle in a black background, wireframes only. Determine the best coding language to archive this."

I’m a VP at a company you might have feelings about, but the company itself is irrelevant. I’m looking for guidance because yesterday I had to fire 19 people. It was just a standard-issue fiat from the powers that be, they asked me to cut my OTE budget by a certain percent and I did. They were heartless zooms with me and an HR person and the employee: “Effective immediately you’re no employed here, your access has been cut off, pack your things and go.”
My peers in other departments had to do it too. And we went to a bar after work and they were yucking it up and joking about it an hour later. I felt like I was the only one who felt bad about it. I guess my question is, does it ever get easier? Or are you just supposed to become numb to ruining people’s lives as part of your career progression?

2025.02.01 18:50 Tibike480 Which FF game should I buy based on RPGs I've played before
Xenoblade trilogy: I really enjoyed the vast open world, the combat, the amazing plot and lore and the amount of genuine quality side quests. My favourite game series ever.
Dragon Quest 11: Couldn't get into it, the plot felt a bit too generic. Very quality game, just not really for me.
Star Ocean 2: Similar to the last one, although I did enjoy the characters and the variety of tools you could use to essentially break the game.
Earthbound: I really liked the silly writing, and the combat was surprisingly enjoyable.
Persona 4 Golden: I adored the cast, the amount of options you had with Personas was really fun to play around with, although I did have to grind just a bit more than I would have liked. The dungeons could be pretty fun to explore
Fire Emblem Three Houses: Amazing characters, and such an enjoyable combat system. I love that it managed to be quite difficult without me ever feeling like I had to grind (especially since that wasn't really an option). If I was ever stumped on a difficult stage, I knew that was just because I had to use a better strategy, and not because I simply wasn't at a high enough level
OMORI: Good story, really fun and creative combat
Overall, I think I'd want a great plot with a well-written cast, and a combat system that doesn't feel like it requires me to grind, but still manages to be challenging. I would also like good side content, and a fun to explore world, but those are somewhat less important

Offers Received: 1) Booth - $30K merit based scholarship + Kilts Fellow (access to additional networking and exclusive mentorship through program) 2) Kellogg - Accelerated Option (~$20K savings)
Booth Pros/Cons: + Strong Brand Name and Globally Recognized (compared to Kellogg) + Flexible Curriculum (no required courses) + $30K scholarship and Kilts Fellow - No concept of cohort and laissez faire in nature - Courses are more rigorous, which could be tough to manage with work - Requires 12 credits to partake in OCR
Kellogg Pros/Cons: + Accelerated Option will make it easier to finish coursework in 2 years + Well known school for Marketing/Tech + No pre-req to partake in OCR + Can potentially apply and transfer to FT MBA program (granted would need to reapply and interview) - Has certain pre-requisite courses before taking electives - “Weaker” brand globally compared to Booth - No specific monetary scholarship and fellowship program compared to what Booth offered
I’m still in the process of weighing my options but any thoughts or advice would be helpful!

From sub to sub, I notice whenever EV's are mentioned there is a lot of negative sentiment.
"They go 2 miles before dying" "They cost hundreds of thousands" "The insurance is insane" "Battery replacement might as well buy a new car" "They kill more people than guns"
Exaggerated a little but that's some of what I'm seeing. Also none of that is true. If Reddit is liberal leaning, you'd expect much bigger support for EV's from an environmental perspective.
