We have our first home study visit scheduled! We are so excited because that means we are one step closer to getting licensed. I do have a couple questions though. Keep in mind we live in TEXAS.
What do they do? What do they look for? How long are they normally there? How many visits do they do?

2025.02.01 20:51 Huge-Impact-9847 Defence of Prayers to Saints

This post will be a defence of the Orthodox doctrine of Saintly Intercession against Protestant claims of idolatry. In this post I will be responding to common protestant objections.
"You're praying to dead people"
Yes, the Saints are dead, but they are alive in Christ and in Heaven. They are actually more alive than us on Earth.
"You can just pray to God directly"

  1. There is a reason to ask prayers from Saints. James 5:13-18 clearly tells believers to pray for one another and displays the power of prayers. James 5:16 says "Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much." The Saints, being in Heaven, are Sanctified and greatly righteous, and verses 17 and 18 show the power of a righteous man's prayer "Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed earnestly that it would not rain; and it did not rain on the land for three years and six months. And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth produced its fruit."
  2. In order for the Protestant to be logically consistent, when someone is having a difficult time in their life and asks for your prayer, tell them "Don't ask me for prayer, pray to God directly!"
"The Bible says Jesus is the only mediator between God and Man (1 Tim 2:5)"
  1. This is a word concept fallacy. When Paul speaks of mediation, he is speaking of Spiritual mediation, that Jesus is the only man who can bridge the gap between God and Man.
  2. According to this argument, the Bible contradicts itself. If all mediation between God and man is through Jesus Christ, then how can Protestants explain Amos 7? Or Exodus 32? Amos and Moses intercede with God not to destroy Israel in these chapters.
"People who have died and are in heaven are not omniscient."
We'll, Luke 15:3-10 says that Angels rejoice to events on Earth. According to Protestantsim, how do they know?
"Where in the Bible does it say to Pray to Saints?"
Most people who believe in this doctrine aren't Bible alone. Where does the Bible say that everything we believe must be in the Bible, it's self refuting. We have other authorities distinct from the Bible.
I'll probably remember some arguments and add them but for now, this will do.

2025.02.01 20:51 PhantomHawk7 RGxx40H help- loading games

I am completely new to this. I bought my wife a RG40xxH for her birthday that is in a couple of weeks. She wanted to play Twisted Metal- so I downloaded that and unzipped the file. I am at a complete loss of how to actually get that onto the device. I have a micro SD card and I assumed that I could just move the files I unzipped to that card and then stick it in the handheld, but I am not sure if there is more to it that I am missing. I watched a couple videos and now I feel more lost than ever. Can someone please help give me a step-by-step of what I need to do. I am finding this all very confusing. Thanks.

2025.02.01 20:51 what_comes_after_q Two stage dust collection for planer to shop vac

So like any other hobbyist with a thickness planer, despite all warnings online, I obviously tried to use my shop vac with a dust separator to collect all the wood chips. And like everyone said, it was a mess. The separator would pop off the bucket because the pressure would build up too high. The bucket would fill up in seconds. The shop vac motor sounded like it was about to launch itself in to space. No bueno. The planer just puts out too much volume for the shop vac to handle.
So I've been thinking about my options. Obvious answer is to use a dust collector - it's designed for 4 inch high volume low pressure suction. But this requires more equipment, more space, and the rest of my equipment is 2.5inch, not 4 inch, so it would really only be for the planer. Not ideal. Next option is to simply use a filter bag. This is probably the most logical answer. Not bad.
But today I had an idea that I was curious if other people have tried. I was thinking about using a two stage filter. The idea is that the first stage of the filter would be a dust separator for low pressure, high volume. As the planer throws chips in to this bucket, those chips will be captured, so the volume then drops. Next it runs through a 4 inch pipe int to the next dust collector that will operate at high pressure, low volume to remove any fine dust particles, then it finally lands in the shop vac. Any idea if this would work? I was thinking about maybe also adding a pressure release in the second stage in case the static pressure is still too great for the shop vac, but curious to get people's feedback.
