Our family's world has been turned upside down with two young boys, ages 3 and 6, recently diagnosed with Muscular Dystrophy (MD). We've been referred to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta (CHOA) for their care:
- Experience with CHOA: If you've had experience with CHOA, particularly with MD, how was it? Are there specialists we should seek out?
- Support and Resources: What kind of support does CHOA offer for kids with MD? Any local groups or resources in Atlanta we should know about?
- Advice for Newbies: What did you wish you knew when you started this journey? How should we approach discussing this with our young sons?
Thanks for any help you can offer. My wife and I are dealing with this in two completely different ways, unfortunately, but I understand. I just want to prepare and try to get a plan together.
Anything would be amazing. I have all the genetic information I could get from the neurologist, but they didn’t know as much as I hoped. Have to wait until first appointment at CHOA in March to be able to get questions answered.

I’ve played hockey for a while now and I’m on a AA team so obviously I have the skating skills needed to play. But I look so stupid on the ice, and it’s because I’m knock kneed. I often wonder if I’d be even better if I wasn’t knock kneed. And surgery isn’t an option. I’m just wondering if there’s anybody else on here that’s knock kneed? And how has it affected your game? Is it common? Can I fix it? I have great balance but my knees always seem to go inwards.

The first couple of weeks were great, but since then, every minor set back has just made me want to crumble and give up. I can't tell if it's the medication, or if all of the stuff I'm/the world are going through really are too much, or if the medication is making me hyper fixate over everything, or maybe all of the above. It just sucks. I feel just like I did when I was prescribed it, and maybe worse.

I'm currently waiting to hear back from Rifugio Elisabetta (hoping to stay there one night early September 2025) but want to be prepared in case they're fully booked.
We're a group of 4 planning to follow an 11-day itinerary. We'll be taking the shuttle from Chapieux to stay in Bourge Saint Maurice on Night 2 and then shuttling back in the morning to pick up the trail again. Hoping to stay at Elisabetta on Night 3, and we have Monte Bianca booked for Night 4. If we're unable to stay at Elisabetta, what are our other options?
We're pretty much good to go for the rest of our itinerary (or we at least have alternatives sorted out in case our first choices don't work out), this is the only leg I'm really concerned about.
