Hello everyone! I'm 27yo guy from Europe (the Balkan part, where all the crazy stuff happens lol). 2024.11.25 06:49 SirNuk3sALot Can someone tell me why it's so hard to move on?
For context, I dated this girl in highschool, I'll call her Katie, and we hit it off really well. I'm talking we had the same interests on things, same views about life, and same music taste and everything. I remember scrolling down her playlist and pointing out nearly every song that we shared. She was perfect in every sense of the word, she ticked every box for me and some I didn't know existed till then.
We went on dates every week, usually 2-3 times, went to prom together and I think that was the best night of my life. I still think about it all the time. I remember when we destroyed the dance floor, when she got a headache and I had to go comfort her, when everyone I knew danced together and partied. I even was dumb enough to give her my lavender flower tie that has her lipstick on it as a souvenir.It was all going great till a month in when she told me she was moving away early for college.
I already knew about it cause a friend has told me so I wasn't to bothered by it but I told her that I'd be there for her regardless. Now, the college she was going to was about 12 hours away and I knew visiting was going to be hard. But I promised I'd make it work and she said she would too. But we had a month and a half till then so we didn't worry about it.
With so little time, we went on as many dates as we could. Grabbing food, eating froyo, just driving around, going to the park, etc. Just normal couple stuff. Then, her graduation party came and it went well till the end. We had our first argument (I can't remember what because this happened 6 months ago) and it shook us up that we were probably not going to see each for a while.
Infact, the final time I saw her, and our last date, didn't go as well as I hoped. It went good, we talked, hugged, kissed, and said our I love yous but something felt off to me then. I just ignored it and kept on pushing through.
My last gift to her was a care package, a basket of her favorite snacks, energy drinks, and coffee to keep her over till she got to her new house (her parents moved with her and she was staying at their house till the dorms opened for the early summer semester.) She loves it so much she sent a letter about it, more about that later.
Anyway, we talked every day. I ruined my sleep schedule for Katie just so I could keep talking to her. It was about two weeks in I noticed her mood had drastically changed. She seemed less energetic about talking with me and it made me really sad. I tried cheering her up but I could tell it was getting to her like it was me. I was feeling lonely because she was so far away but I couped by talking to her outside. I did that because I knew she was under the same night sky I was and it helped me understand it wasn't permanent.
Unfortunately, she didn't see it that way and she broke up with me. She said it wasn't my fault and she just wanted the physically aspect of our relationship. I didn't take offense to that at the time because I didn't value that part compared to other but sure. I tried to convince her that it wasn't great but it'll get better. I wanted to tell her that I was planning to visit her sometime in the next week but something about the way she said it killed me. I didn't fight it and maybe that's something I regret not doing now.
Then a day later, the letter arrived. It basically said thank you for the care package and she loved and missed me a lot. That actually destroyed me. For the first time in my life, I lost my cool. I called her and asked what the hell was wrong with her not telling me about this and she had a lot of nerve. She apologized and looking back I probably did the wrong thing. It honestly hurt me more when our streaks died.
I tried talking to her again, months later obviously, because I didn't want to lose her as a friend and we both talked about how that's what we would want if we ever did break up.
It didn't end well
I don't know exactly what happened, we were talking about working out and how the freshman 15 was our nightmares when she just unfriended me. Just like that.
I get updates from my friend about her sometimes, against my will btw. Apparently she's not doing good? He says she seems depressed and is always drunk and isn't doing good in school. Thats not the person I knew, I think she's going through stuff and needs someone to help her out.
It won't be me. I'm still in so much damn pain. It's getting to the point where I'm actually dreaming about her. I could not be making this shit up. The first time I thought it was a fluke. In that dream, she came back to where we lived and asked to start dating again and I said yes (or more accurately my subconscious said yes) The second one was waay more personal. We were at a carnival, passing by toy, candy, make up, and clothes stores (probably combining a memory from when we went to the mall and filmed a tiktok with our county fair date) and we were being physically pulled by something to the Ferris wheel. We both hated Ferris wheels. But what was strange was she got on but I didn't, I watched her have fun/be terrified from the ground. And when she got off, she walked right pass me. I tried getting her attention but then my dream vision warped and I woke up in a cold sweat. That was last night and I'm afraid to go to bed.
I need to know how you all get over someone? Especially when you thought she was the one? I am in so much agony and I can't talk to me friends or family about it because they all think I moved on.
I also want to contact and get back to her but I know that's just my stupid monkey brain and it's a dumb idea.
I just miss her so much
