This post is long, but I feel the context is needed for the questions I want to ask. I'm 37, husband and father of two; I have recently begun exploring paganism and witchcraft after feeling drawn to them for years. I have always kept my distance from spirituality and faith since the collapse of my faith in Christianity. I have always felt a guiding presence in my life, but I had never known what it was. I have recently been reflecting on my life, and that finally pushed me to open up to it.
I have been reflecting on my life, and I feel it is playing a role in where I am at with this new spiritual journey. First, my gender identity has never been what I was born as or, for that matter, a fixed thing. Secondly, I have a powerful sense of justice and fairness. I failed to live up to that in the last decade and a half of my life as I had just struggled to survive. This experience has made me feel that I was entering a time of significant change in my life. That being said, I looked at some facts. I have always felt a solid connection to the night; it is when I feel the safest. I also have always believed that the world is more than what we can feel and touch. Then, out of nowhere, I started getting all kinds of content on my social media about paganism, witchcraft, and, particularly, Hekate. All this led me to the idea that I should contact Hekate. So, I have been reaching out, leaving offerings of what I could, and trying to reflect on my life and the concept of Hekate. At first, I felt great, like for the first time in my life, I had the strength to fully take charge and shape my life into something I desired. Then, the other day, I felt this great melancholy settle on me. I feel as if I have failed in life. I did not make the most of the last 20 years of my life; I abandoned art and music, I hid my gender identity from myself, and I failed to do just and moral things. Then, if I tried to make up for those failings, I would do so at the cost of failing my wife and children. Now, as this took shape in my mind, I also got a sense of rejection, like a force or the universe was pushing me away. Overall, this has left me feeling worthless and unworthy of working with a deity. So, this is where my real question lies. Am I being rejected by Hekate? Could I be getting rejected by all gods and deities? Is this just showing me the world for what it is? Am I going to be shown some path forward, or am I left to figure this out on my own?
