Its gonna be long so buckle up.
Starting from 2019-20 when I was preping for NEET. 2 worst years of my life fr. Hamara lockdown ka batch tha so no support system either. No contact with anyone, struggling in isolation.. it was hard as an extrovert child. Before this my academics were good and soo was my sports. I was Kabbadi team captian in both my school in Mumbai and Kolkata. Played in nationals too. Had brightest and most optimistic personality among my peers. But NEET prep, tuition pressure, parents expectation and those years dulled me out.
Anyways fastforward to my 1st NEET attempt. Soo after an entire year of no physical activity we had to climb 9th floor (who the hell made tht school) and why was my center there idk. We had to climb while having slippers in our hands cause entire staircase was flooded. Weather was bad, storm raging outside. How much worse could it get?! Boom gets period early. Headache, cramp, chestpain- none of the internal or external factors were by my side that day.
I messed up bad but the paper was easy cause lockdown wala batch. Everyone was happy but I went to my parents and cried. Their response however was not supportive. It was soo bad soo cruel.. i dont want to remember. Our relationship had already taken toll due to lockdown and entire 'u must get good score' but this was like DAM braking. Fights, taunt, despair, cold shoulder for months.
Did 2nd attempt under all the emotional pressure. Didnt work out as I started hating myself and feeling worthless. By this time my parents really didnt have hopes up so they just enrolled me in a local college nearby. My UG college is 3km from my home so I stay with my parents.
Over these 3 years of college I've tried to mend our relationship. I spent time adapting to dad's interest just so I could talk to him. My mom and me are very close now. She always supports me. Dad started taking days off of work and took us out on trips. We go to random places, exploration, or just long drives every weeknd. I dont think I would have experienced this if I was in Med school for 5 years. I think my bond with my parents have never been this strong before.
But yesterday I messed up CAT. When I exited the center and went to my dad, he didnt ask me anything, maybe he already predicted. We quitely walked over to the car and I told him tht maybe I wont even get 80% He wasnt angry and asked me to turn on the Bluetooth and play my fav songs to lighten my mood. We had casual talks while returning home. Mom cooked my fav food despite being sick. She didnt ask me about my exams either. But I felt obliged to tell. I just .. I love my family soo much it hurts tht I'm unable to just.. Being average just hurts.
I have a feeling there must something even I might be good at but who knows. Guess I'll nvr figure out cause our education system is just designed that way.
Luck also plays a huge role in life. Today I was supposed to participate in a competition in US Embassy. I was selected to represent the college. I went there with my college ID however no one informed me that they required Physical ID proof for entry. I only had the softcopy which won't work. They had the name on the list, the security personnel contacted multiple people to help me but after standing there for half an hour entry was still denied. Returning home rn. 4 hour ka roundtrip for nothing.
I couldnt sleep the entire night due to guilt, regret and stress and now this nonsense. But okay I'm supposed to feel optimistic because kabhi toh kuch aacha hoga. But kaab.. 5 saal ho gaye. I'm trying to improve but I see no outcome. Its not like I didn't put efforts. I have had my fair shares of sleepless nights, mocks after mocks but why do I keep messing up. How do random people with 2 days of prep getting better marks than me. Aint I allowed to be mad... mistakes are mine I understand yet I'm not deliberately making it. I dont know how to project these emotions how to deal with it. But I'm not depressed I cant be depressed cause the worst time 11th-12th have passed and so will this.

2024.11.25 11:20 low_flying_aircraft NEW PLAYER TIPS: Scroll of Upgrade Budget and Appropriate Gear Levels
Hi folks
Seen a lot of posts from new players struggling with the game, and often when they post their build, they have inappropriate gear and upgrades for the region they are dying in, so I thought I would make a post explaining a way of thinking about this for new players.
This post is for new players who have not yet got their first win. It is not targeted at experienced players. If you have completed the game, this is probably not for you :). If you are struggling to get your first win, I think this might help :)
There are two concepts I see that new players struggle with a little. I call these Scroll of Upgrade Budget, and Appropriate Gear Levels. These are very basic concepts in the game, and it is good to have an understanding of how it works.
(All this assumes you are playing with zero challenges)
SCROLL OF UPGRADE BUDGET.
There are 3 SoU per region. There are 5 regions, so you will have a total of 15 SoU to spend throughout the whole game. This is your SoU budget and you need to have a good idea of what appropriate spending looks like. With the Troll Blacksmith quest rewards you will also gain at minimum 2 extra upgrades if you complete the quest fully. This gives you a minimum budget of 17 Upgrades to complete the game. To complete the game you will need to survive long enough to build your End Game Gear.
End Game Gear - this is gear that is appropriate enough for you to complete the last two regions and win the game. Generally speaking this needs to be T5 and ideally I would say you want T5 weapon and armour, and both at +5. This takes out 10 of your SoU budget. You can do it with less, and it's nice to have more, but this is a good level to be aiming at.
So you are left with 7 upgrades (5 remaining SoU plus the 2 upgrades from Troll Blacksmith) to help you survive and get to your T5 endgame gear!
If things go well, you should be finding your T5 gear by the Dwarven Metropolis, region 4. With a little luck, you can find your T5 armour and weapon in this region, spend your allocated 10 SoU between them, and go into the Dwarf King fight with your endgame gear.
This means you need to survive the previous 3 regions, and you can spend up to 7 SoU along the way!
Let's now discuss how this relates to:
APPROPRIATE GEAR LEVELS
A minimum appropriate gear level for the region you are in looks like:
Sewers: +1 T2 Weapon, +1 T2 Armour
Prison: +1 T3 Weapon, +1 T3 Armour
Caves: +1 T4 Weapon, +1 T4 Armour
Metropolis: +1 T5 Weapon, +1 T5 Armour
Demon Halls: +5 T5 Weapon, +5 T5 Armour.
We can see from this that we want to have spent our SoU endgame budget on our endgame weaponry somewhere between the Dwarven Metropolis and the Demon Halls. We want to be going into the Demon Halls with our endgame gear already upgraded and ready to go.
Here is where I see a lot of new players going wrong:
You are either hoarding all your SoU and not spending enough on the early regions, and so you are dying before you even get to spend them all on endgame gear, OR you're using inappropriate gear and dying early because you can't deal or take damage at the right level for the region.
Let's look at these first three again:
Sewers: +1 T2 Weapon, +1 T2 Armour
Prison: +1 T3 Weapon, +1 T3 Armour
Caves: +1 T4 Weapon, +1 T4 Armour
As a new player, you can see that you should be spending around 2 SoU in each of these regions to survive. You are able to use appropriate gear from the first 1-2 floors of any region. Why? Because you will find a guaranteed Potion of Strength in the first 1-2 floors of each region, and if you are also spending 1 SoU on an appropriate weapon and appropriate armour, you will be able to equip them as soon as you find that first Strength Potion of each region.
You'll also note that this means you spend 6 SoU through your frst three regions. THIS IS NOT A WASTE. You're gonna feel like it is a waste because you will ditch that gear as soon as you find something usable of the next tier. This is why you are dying. Those SoU are spent to keep you alive long enough to get your endgame gear. Remember that, and spend them! You want the Appropriate Gear Level for your region as soon as you find that first Potion of Strength. You will find the game radically easier if you do this.
To be clear: NONE OF THIS is based on you needing to find upgraded gear. If you find upgraded gear along the way, great! That is a bonus and you have saved some of your SoU Budget and can spend more later. If you don't find upgraded gear, no worries, you can still win by using this info.
Final thought: this doesn't cover a lot of the other tactics you will need to learn to survive, but I see so many posts where people don't have the right gear for their region, and this is just to cover that basics.
