Hi! I’m struggling to come up with gift ideas for my mother-in-law. She’s a former law enforcement officer and not particularly girly, but she’s very classy and put together due to her upbringing—think conservative yet feminine clothing, beautiful jewelry and rings, but never a purse. She spends most of her time playing pickleball, tennis, biking, walking, and reading, and she already has all the essentials for these activities. At the end of the day, what matters most to her is spending time with us and her grandchild (we’re visiting for 3 weeks), but I’d still like to find a thoughtful physical gift for her. In the past, I’ve given her things like a Hatch alarm clock, a digital photo frame, and a year of Audible, which she seemed to enjoy—but I honestly don’t think I’d know if she didn’t! I find this especially hard because I’m very girly and don’t think she’d appreciate traditional gifts I like (silky pajamas, quality skincare, candles, etc.). Any ideas?

Hi there. This is a bit of an odd question, I admit... Anyone know any functions for a binary two-sided test (qui-square) that will output the delta or event rate for a treatment group, when provided with fixed event rate in the control group, alpha, and beta? By way of background, I was going to look into a method to improve complication rates for a given procedure, which has a complication rate of 31%. Alpha 0.05, Beta 0.8, two-sided test. Now we do that procedure around 80 times a year. I now want to know how much better it has to be with 80 patients included (allocation is 1:1), instead of calculating an actual sample size. I’m seeing a lot of my childhood cat in my new kitty 🥺 March of 2023 one of my childhood cats, Jasmine, passed away. Summer of this year me and my girlfriend got a little kitten and named her Bmo (from adventure time haha) and I’m seeing a lot of Jasmine in Bmo.
Bmo is just as playful and goofy as Jasmine was. Bmo sticks her tongue out a bunch like Jasmine used to. Bmo lays on my chest the same exact way Jasmine used to. Bmo sits right in front of my tv watching me play video games like Jasmine used to. Bmo is just as much of a pig about food as Jasmine was 😂 So many other things that I see in Bmo that Jasmine always did.
It’s almost like we were meant to get Bmo for this reason. At the shelter, what caught my attention with Bmo was her sticking her paw out of the cage as if she were waving to us. We walked over to her and just fell in love with her.

I started on Lumryz back in the spring. I like it better than Xyrem, but haven’t been super consistent with it. The salt content kinda bothers me, my husband says it makes me snore like a freight train, and I also have terrible revenge bedtime procrastination and like to stay up late so it’s been a couple months since I’ve taken any. And just living on Adderall.
I had a follow up with my doctor this week and he encouraged me to take it for two weeks. Then evaluate how I felt and to ask my husband and kids if they noticed any difference in my energy, mood, etc. I feel like that’s a reasonable experiment.
It’s been two days and my snoring is so loud that now my husband (a light sleeper) can’t sleep in our room! I did my sleep study in 2020 and there was no indications of sleep apnea, so it must be some side effect of the sedation. Now I feel guilty that I need/want to take this medicine and that husband is sleeping on an air mattress in the basement.
This morning we started discussing possible arrangements for sleep divorce. I’m actually not too fussed about sleeping in separate rooms if it results in both of us sleeping better. We also discussed co-sleeping when our kids were born and were both firmly in the “own room own surface”camp. But we’re having a custody battle over our room and it seems like his feelings are hurt. Understandable, a couple years ago we bought an expensive custom mattress as our Christmas present, and now he feels displaced.
Anyone else also navigating partner sleep issues and sleep divorce? Would love to hear your experience.
