2024.11.25 15:36 SnooCapers5958 Thoughts on Ys X gameplay?
I'm finally at the final chapter and wanted to sort out my thoughts on my experience with it. I'm not sure if it was intentional or not, but I do like how the "meta" seems to change the further along the game you go due to how the Revenge Gauge and Release Line mechanics are implemented in addition to how Adol and Karja's skills evolve.
Early in the game, stats are still low and skills are still weak so I find myself abusing normal attacks in Duo Mode a lot. The gameplan was: Fish for an attack -> Dual guard to fill up revenge gauge -> Duo skill. Dual guard in particular felt super important early-game because everything kills in 1-2 hits on Nightmare and glass bottles being a consumable resource means I cant hoard healing items. The first few skills I get being humble in terms of hitboxes also means there's an emphasis on taking out mobs one enemy at a time.
Later on however, when the maximum multiplier on the revenge gauge goes up I find myself abusing Duo Mode less because I'm holding on to my charge longer before it gets to max level. More enemies getting Speed Attacks and the fact that they tend to layer it on top of other enemies doing normal or power attacks also means that Duo Guard now comes with bigger risks and I find myself moving around plenty more than before. Still, going farther down the Release Line also means I can start inflating my stats and both Adol and Karja feel a lot less fragile. Solo skills start getting stronger and have bigger hitboxes so I'm fighting solo more often.
Late into the game, enemies start coming in bigger droves but Adol and Karja also start getting skills with comically large hitboxes that mow them down all at once and now my gameplan is to build my Skill Chain high enough that my SP Costs get so low battles hit a point where I just facetank everything by spamming skills (since getting hit while using a skill reduces the damage I take). It surprisingly far safer and more efficient than running/guarding too because at this point in the game, enemy groups coordinating speed/powenormal attacks to throw me off have become really commonplace. I also have so many "+" stars in the release lines at this point so stats are even more inflated.
In short: I really like the gameplay because it does a really good of making Adol and Karja feel really strong the further you go.

I do not directly use ThreeJS but I develop an app that feeds files to another app that uses ThreeJS to render buildings. That said, assuming I have a model and a nav mesh that are both in different OBJ files, does the app using ThreeJS need to know which is which or can they be loaded with the same method in either order and still work? Previously, I asked the user uploading the files to specify if it was a model or nav file. It's not clear to me if that's actually needed and I'd like to move away from it if not. Can someone please clarify this for me?
