 | My wife and I were visiting family in Ohio this weekend, and I used some of the downtime to visit a couple liquor stores to see how the selection compared to my local stores. This is what I came home with. First off, the OHLQ website is fantastic for being able to see what inventory is at what stores. In my experience, it was accurate, and was a big time saver allowing me to drive to the stores where there was possibly some inventory of what I was looking for (the Penelope Estate Collection). Second off, shout out to the cashier at Kroger who checked me out on Friday giving me the heads up that they were getting a shipment from BT in the following day. I went back and was able to score a backup bottle of Eagle Rare. Initial tasting thoughts, all sipped neat after resting for 15 minutes in their glass: Russel’s Single Barrel: A cherry bomb on the nose and palate. Very good, and I’m kind of bummed I didn’t grab a second bottle since I never see this back home. Penelope Estate Private Select: Not as good of a nose as the Russel’s, but the palate is crème brûlée and caramelized sugars. I was wondering if MGP’s acquisition of Penelope would result in them getting access to some older and better inventory, and based on my initial tasting, that may be the case. Copper & Kings: You definitely get the apple on the nose, and it fades on the palate into baking spices. Almost like a bourbon apple pie. It’s good, but is the least favorite of the three. I’m happy to have picked these bottles up. Man oh man.
Having just spent the last few weeks commuting daily there, all I can do is laugh when I see the deluge traffic / driver rants here.
Look, we have some bad drivers here. Every city does. But they're more the exception, not the rule. You spot one or two on a daily commute, if that, in my experience. Chicago? Good luck. Every single day, at every single moment you're on the road, you're witnessing something flabbergasting. And the wait times from the daily accidents that are all over the place far outpace anything I've witnessed here. It's pretty uncommon to suffer a major delay here. There? Just plan on averaging 15-20MPH for the duration of your trips.
Take a deep breath. Have some perspective. Drive defensively. (Save 10% on your insurance by taking the defensive driving class online.) Be glad you live here and not Chicago. Our hot dogs are better, and so is our traffic.

I've been managing CUCM for years, but the only PSTN gateways I've worked with are PRIs terminating to 2800 series ISRs managed by CUCM as MGCP gateways.
We're in the process of setting up new 8200L ISRs which will serve as SBCs withe new SIP trunks from the PSTN to eventually replace the old gateways. I've never worked with SIP gateways before, so am looking for some configuration reference guides on how to terminate a SIP trunk from the PSTN to an ISR then integrate it with CUCM. Any recommendations?
Thankfully this is a phased migration, so at this point I don't have to worry about existing numbers, I'll work on the dial plan and number porting after I get the SIP PSTN gateway setup working.
Just based on some brief reading, it looks like SIP gateways are not managed by CUCM via MGCP like older gateways, they terminate the SIP trunk from the carrier and then terminate a separate SIP trunk to CUCM with dial plan rules local on the gateway. If that's the case I'm guessing this is just as simple as terminating those two trunks with simple forward all dial rules (all calls from PSTN SIP -> CUCM SIP, all calls from CUCM SIP -> PSTN SIP)?

I play a rather heavy list with tanks and gravis units + some intercessors for sticky objective. I love it because it is very thematic but I have the same problem time and time again. I don't manage to get far out of my deployment zone in turn 1 and 2 and end up boxed in without being able to score.
What detachment or tips wouod you recommend to avoid this from happening ?

So I have a mom who has health issues. Had a liver transplant, subsequent kidney issues that no longer require dialysis fortunately, but also have some major heart issues that will likely be the thing that kills her.
Her health has been declining for many years. I live around an hour and half to two hours away. She frequently asks when I am going to visit. I will admit, I should visit more than I have lately.
I find it pretty uncomfortable to visit. It's generally pretty boring, she asks me when I am going to get certifications for work, when I am going to start dating, when am I going to get repairs done on my house, the usual stuff that I do not have an answer for and don't want to talk about.
We usually watch murder mysteries or something on streaming service. If I am on my phone when I get bored she will ask what I am doing, who I am texting, am I bored, she is bad company, etc.
I hate small talk. I have tried having her talk about her childhood, her life, family I never got to meet, etc. for some reason she doesn't really seem interested in talking about those things much. I know she had a rough childhood in many ways, one parent was an alcoholic. She has talked about other stuff but generally wants to talk about me.
There are times where she will call and "be under the impression" I am coming home the upcoming weekend. Or that on any given holiday I will be taking more time off work and spend more time at home.
The issue presently is that we just made plans to drive to her sister's place for thanksgiving day and then I would go back home and have the rest of the holiday to myself.
She just got out of the hospital recently for a minor infection. Today she texted me wanting to come home Saturday as well for our own thanksgiving. While also seeing her sister on Thursday.
I feel bad saying this. But this pretty much makes me feel miserable. I don't want to drive up two hours twice over what was supposed to be a four day weekend. Let alone spend time with her when I could just be alone by myself.
At the same time. You never know when this will be the final thanksgiving. I know I will regret not spending more time with her when she does die.
I feel guilty about this frequently. Then when I do spend time with her I quickly just feel bored and miserable. To some degree it feels like my Mom has already sort of died a while ago. Replaced with someone with minor to moderate cognitive decline. I usually avoid going to her with advice or to talk about any kind of emotional issues because she generally makes me feel worse and adds to stress. She comes from a genuine place of love and trying to supportive.
I know I am not alone in dealing with situations like this. For people who have gone through this, what do you suggest?
I don't expect anyone to have the perfect answer. But any advice is welcome.
