2024.11.25 18:50 Few-Ad711 First Time DM for small group
I am a first time DM/player for two other players who are also first time players. The beginning was rough with one player being argumentative but for the most part it has been resolved. However very early on they agreed to have my character join their party. The purpose of my character was to be a support cleric to heal them since neither of them are healers. After setting up a dungeon full of puzzles and traps I had the intention of having my character be unavailable for the dungeon because it would be awkward to role-play a character that knows the trap layouts. I forgot to take my character out of the dungeon until it was too late. The two players got annoyed that I didn't want to take certain actions because they would directly hurt or kill my character. One player wanted to throw me into an abyss to see what would happen. When we got to a minefield one player wanted me to run in a straight line through the mines to set them off, even though I gave them the tools to safely navigate it.
The whole experience kind of made me want to kill off my own character so I can strictly be DM without this kind of conflict.
Instead I tried a different path. Our group got ambushed and during a difficult fight were all knocked unconscious. My character is separated. I have plans for when the party will see him again and potentially rescue him. But so far without him it has been interesting to see how they deal with healing. I'm still on the fence for if they can save my character or arrive too late. I like my character, but if he dies it will ultimately mess up my plans for the later part of the campaign and I'll have to make some changes. One player is fun and easy to play with, they go with everything and it's great. The other player who was argumentative in the beginning...they are the one who is making me consider this in the first place.
I cannot kick either player out of the group. That is not an option. I'm kind of using this time to see how they fare and if they need my character.
Any thoughts/advice from other DMs or players?

Hi all,
I'm just in the process of experimenting a little bit with Notion.
Currently I'm trying to replace my expenditure tracking which, at the moment, is done with Google Sheets.
Basically, what I'm trying to do is to have a database view with my fixed costs and a checkbox if they are already debited. For simplisity, let's call this DB1.
Additionally, I would have another database where I specify the date and invoice amount for all variable expenditures. This we will call DB2.
Ideally, within DB1 I would - as mentioned - have all my fixed expenditures plus an entry which is called "variable" where the sum of all the entries from DB2 is displayed based on the current month.
Is there a way to do this? Sorry if this is a little bit confusing or a dumb question.

I am new to PowerBI and have been watching lots of training videos/courses. I am trying to decide the best way to model my data which comes from our financial ERP software. In that system there is a table that contains the transactional detail and also tables that have summarized the data already per month, per fund, per organization. For higher level visuals, it seems like it would be more efficient to use the already summarized data, but I also want to be able to drill down into the transactional details. Is it possible to drill down into a different table that isn't being used in a certain visual as long as the relationships are created in the model? And if so, does that sound like the best way to be more effecient?

The entire college application process has been taking a hit on my mental health lately. I've gotten into five colleges so far (4/5 for nursing yay!!) but still no word from my top choice school. It's a SUNY school and almost all of the students from my school who applied got in so I really shouldn't be worrying that bad, but I keep going over what I said on my application/essay and being critical of the things I did and what I failed to do before senior year. My mind is my biggest enemy.
