Men, I need your perspective on this situation.
I met a guy recently, and we had an amazing connection right off the bat—emotional, physical, and intense. We didn't have sex since I've been celibate for a few years but we did other things. He found me attractive, loved my personality. He blurted out that he felt like he hooked up with his dream crush when we were laying in bed together. He was super affectionate and cuddly. But after our time together, he reached out the next day to check on me and then stopped communication.
When I messaged him, he admitted he wasn’t emotionally ready for a relationship and wanted to go to therapy. He said I was "the perfect girl at the wrong time". I also sensed that he might have been a little intimidated because travel often and have a stable well paying job. He wants to go back to school and make a career change because he job isn't paying well. He also mentioned potential differences (I’m Muslim, he’s Christian). He said it could only be something physical between us but I would obviously want more.
I got out of an abusive relationship years ago and this is the first time I felt something for someone and he made me feel safe. He was kind and respectful. I’m tempted to reach out again, but I also don’t want to chase something that isn’t mutual.

If you believe the family did it, then obviously you accept the note is a coverup or a diversion.
I ask - why couldn't a psychopath who was obviously there to kill and not kidnap, not do it for the same reason?
It feels like tunnel vision to take the note at face value, debating every word used, the ransom amount, or the fact that kidnappers don't leave the dead body at the scene.
But what if the killer has zero intention of extorting the family?
What if they wrote it, at least in part, as part of their psychopathic fantasy involving power and influence such as the case of mentioning being part of a foreign crime syndicate.
What if they saw something while snooping through the house about the bonus JR got and just used that to make it seem realistic?
What if the whole thing was some intruder who did what everyone accused the family of doing, and that's just to create one big smoke in mirrors piece of evidence for police to waste their time dissecting.

2024.11.26 00:52 RandomGameDev9201 War Minigame

Repost because of a mis pressed button.
So, I recently discovered Warhammer 40K. This is relevant, trust me, and I will still be a true D&D fan, just possible with another hobby.
Anyway, as a thought experiment, how would one run large-scale combat in the 2024 edition. I think it would be interesting. I don't want players to actually be in the battle, just to have as a sort of minigame if they, say, gain leadership of an army, which is totally possible in my setting. It might also make a fun standalone game to play without having to teach them the Warhammer stuff.
I was thinking that I could just have each player have "Units" to use, with each Unit being a stat block such as an Orc, a Mage, or other MM creature. Maybe a player can have a combined CR of their creatures equal to 20, and CR 0 creatures counting as CR 1/8 for the point of this. Units of size Huge or Gargantuan, but are much more powerful than their canon versions, while other creatures are weaker than canon and are actually a small army of such units. In this case, one square equals 50ft, but the amount of squares from a unit doesn't change. For example, a Unit of Veterans takes up a 50ft space, or 1 square, while a Unit of Trolls takes up a 2x2 space of squares, or a 100ft square of space.
For example, in a one-on-one fight, players fight in mountains. One player has an Adult White Dragon, some Cultists, and some Kobolds, while the other has a Frost Giant, some Ice Elementals, some Guards, and some Ogres.
Any thoughts? I'm going to playtest these rules on my own, and I'll try to remember to update this with how it goes with my players as a one-shot-ish thing. They are already OK with trying it. If there are any flaws you can see, or you have tried this yourself, feel free to share!

Clearly they are releasing OP cards in December with series 4 cards to get people buying during the holidays while holding onto their hoard of series 5 cards. Then those series 4 cards will be lowered to 3 in a few months as they said today. Really predatory and lame from a game I have enjoyed a lot.

....But the character is just so cheerful and happy! He's a major optimist is just enjoying life even with the circumstances thrown at him. Its a slice of life sort of deal. There's even tons of cute moments.

Manic Man | Disassociation in 4 Minutes I recently saw this 4-minute short by aspiring filmmaker Fritz Frauendorf, about a man battling social anxiety, amidst a party environment. What follows, is Shane (our protagonist) literally having an out of body experience, struggling to find a way to escape from reality.
As someone who often struggles with social anxiety, too, I found myself really connecting with this film. I think the idea of capturing this man’s anxiety by literally showing him detaching from his own body, and them observing what an ideal, social version of him could be like, was an impactful, unique choice, and the VFX showing him as he disassociates were very well done (reminiscent of Blade Runner 2049).

2024.11.26 00:52 Massive_Golf_6201 F82 Comp or MK5 Supra 3.0 Premium

I have a budget of about $43k, which is getting me into either a ‘17 F82 comp w/ 40-50k miles or a ‘21 Supra MK5 w/ 40-50k miles
Which is the better buy? Plan on keeping the car completely stock, and want to keep until 80-100k miles. Will be my second car and be driven 2-3 days a week. No need for practicality whatsoever.
I’ve test driven both and coming from Z cars (370Z, 350Z HR), the F82 felt slightly large. The extra horsepower and torque is definitely noticeable in the M4, but I find the Supra to be more than enough for the street; pretty easy to kick the rear end out with the torque and short wheelbase, felt more M2-like. The B58 sound was also preferable over the S55. The M4 model is also pre LCI, while the Supra has most of those LCI updates being a newer model, and there’s about a 4 year difference in manufacture.
M adaptive suspension and M1/M2 drive modes are way more configurable in the M and DCT felt more unique than the ZF8. Also has more leather and space. The final thing is, the f8x already has a successor while the supra doesn’t, and if they end production on the supra I feel like it’ll hold value better than the f8x.
