He prepared lunch for them and they hurried out into the street. Like every day, she took her twin daughters to school. They were walking around humming a song and holding hands when the phone rang from her bag. It was from work. She responded quickly and her interlocutor asked her to come to the office immediately. Something serious had happened, so she decided that the girls should continue alone; they knew the way well. She kissed them on the forehead and started back. She only took twenty steps. Behind her, the sound of a loud bang followed by a slam on the brakes caused her to turn her head with a horrified expression on her face. The bodies of the two little girls lay inert under a truck. They were still holding hands.
The woman fell into a deep depression from which she managed to get out with a new pregnancy. By the irony of fate, two twin girls were coming to life in her womb. When she gave birth, her striking resemblance to her deceased daughters surprised more than one neighbor. As the little ones grew older, her mother became more and more protective. She was terrified that she might lose them. One day, on the way to school, the sisters went ahead and ran under the watchful eye of the woman. As soon as they stepped onto the asphalt, an iron hand stopped them abruptly. Between heartbroken sobs, her mother begged them never to cross without her permission. “We weren't thinking of doing it. We were already run over once, Mom. It will not happen again".
Since then, some travelers assure that when passing through that section some interference sneaks into the radio and a mysterious melody is heard: the humming of some girls.

Había ocurrido algo grave, así que decidió que las niñas continuaran solas; conocían bien el camino. Las besó en la frente y emprendió la ruta de vuelta. Solo dio veinte pasos. A sus espaldas, el ruido de un fuerte golpe seguido de un frenazo hizo que volteara la cabeza con una expresión de horror en el rostro. Los cuerpos de las dos pequeñas yacían inertes bajo un camión. Todavía estaban cogidas de la mano.
La mujer se sumió en una profunda depresión de la que consiguió salir con un nuevo embarazo. Por ironía del destino, en su vientre estaban cobrando vida dos niñas gemelas. Cuando dio a luz, el asombroso parecido con sus hijas fallecidas sorprendió a más de un vecino. A medida que las pequeñas crecían, la madre se volvió más y más protectora. Le aterrorizaba la idea de que pudiera perderlas. Un día, de camino al colegio, las hermanas se adelantaron y corrían ante la atenta mirada de la mujer. En cuanto pusieron un pie en el asfalto, una férrea mano las detuvo con brusquedad. Entre sollozos desconsolados, su madre les rogó que no cruzaran nunca sin su permiso. “No pensábamos en hacerlo. Ya nos atropellaron una vez, mamá. No volverá a ocurrir”.
Desde entonces, algunos viajeros aseguran que al pasar por ese tramo unas interferencias se cuelan en la radio y se oye una misteriosa melodía: el tarareo de unas niñas.

A relatively well-known D&D example is the Blood War between demons of chaos and devils of law. There are many other possibilities. Maybe an important bulwark that defends the land from a demonic invasion is the undead army of some lich king, who would prefer to dominate the world rather than see it fall into fiendish hands. Perhaps the primordial titans have shattered their bindings and are devastating the planet with flames, storms, quakes, and waves, but eldritch hierophants and cultists call down alien horrors from beyond the stars to defend civilization: for elemental annihilation is not, in fact, the "correct" eschaton. On a much smaller scale, perhaps the shady criminals in town can be convinced to steel themselves and help hunt down the man-eating werewolf terrorizing said town.
What are some memorable examples that you have seen or created, and how did the protagonists get involved?

I've done it. they are finally gone. and now I'm free to do my work in peace. I hid their bodies in the basement of the facility. now my work can finally be finished alone. they were nothing but burdens always trying to get me help not letting me focus on the work. and even talking behind my back. but now they are never gonna interfere with my work again

The sun is finally coming up. but everyone is gone and I have no one to talk to. it has been extremely lonely here. all the crewmates are rotting in the basement. and there's this voice in the back of my head shaming me for what I did. I think there's only one thing left to do. I'm going take the shotgun and end it. goodbye.

I've been struggling so much because of the way we broke up. It's been just barely over a month but there has been essentially no communication between us directly.
I found out ~2 weeks ago from her best friend who "felt sorry for me" and told me (with proof of my ex saying it happened multiple times in a screenshot) that she has been casually sleeping around with at minimum 1-2 strangers she met at a party within a week of the breakup.
Our last communication was full of the stereotypical "you were so amazing to me but I can't give you what you want" and "you deserve better" and "you are one of the most important people in my life" to let me down softly and then she told me that I shouldn't wait but maybe after some time she could earn my trust again and we could get back together.
She now knows that I know she's been sleeping around and not going to therapy or putting in any effort to improve herself as she promised me she would and it has been a little over a week and she has not tried to reach out or explain herself to me at all and essentially has the viewpoint of "well he knows now so whatever"
Please just reassure me that she's truly not worth waiting for. I gave her so much in the over 4 years we were together and she left as we were in the middle of planning our engagement and months before we were going to look into getting a big apartment together. And now seeing her go from a woman who was so neglectful to me sexually and emotionally and lying to me saying sex was something she didnt want or need in a relstionship to be happy to someone who will give up sex to strangers is so disgusting. So please as an anxious style man reassure me that she's not worth waiting for and that she was right when she told me i deserve someone better than her.

 | Iam an 16 year old person from asia and i have been currently facing with depression with the past , 4 years here ; i have been diagnosed with adhd,bipolar II , ocd , borderline, multiple personality disorder and many more mental illnesses as said by the doctor , i dont how to help it and the doctors have said to make friends but , here my self cant really make myself friends iam really lonely. Even if i make friends i can talk with them for 1,2 days unless they get bored of me . I’m a really simple guy And i have tried finding love in this generation but been dealt with heart break no one kind of really likes me back and in this human endeavour of loneliness is catching up to me peace.
