2024.11.26 13:40 UpNorthwithVampires Neighbors upstairs are very loud
Hi, I live in a building that is 3 stories. I live on the second floor since March of this year. I live alone and have 2 kids (7 & 8) that stay with me 3.5 days out of the week. Their days with me are during the week when they are in school. When I was moving in my downstairs neighbor was outside his apartment with his dogs and introduced himself. I told him if we were ever too loud to please let me know. I try very hard to make sure my kids aren’t jumping or running and I bought a rug for the living room (the bedrooms are carpeted). No complaints so far and me and 1st floor neighbor are cordial.
When I moved in the upstairs neighbors were great, some noises every now and then but nothing crazy. It’s expected living in apartments.
I’m guessing the previous people moved out and a new family moved in roughly around end of September. The new family must have multiple children that they allow to run back and forth and jump around constantly. I’m talking throughout the day and into late at night past 10pm. We hear thumping, slamming, stomping and my ceiling fans shake. It sounds like they are constantly dropping something very heavy onto the floor. I’ll be working from home with my noise cancelling headphones and still hear them throughout the apartment. The past 2 nights have been particularly bad as they woke me up multiple times throughout the night with stomping/thudding/slamming right above my bedroom.
I’m nervous to go upstairs and confront them. I’ve only ever had 1 other time I had noise problems with neighbors and this was 7 years ago when my daughter was born. My ex-husband attempted to speak to them and they were extremely hostile and threatened him. I don’t want a repeat of that for me and my kids safety.
I’ve complained to the office numerous times. Every time they say they will reach out to them but nothing ever changes. I don’t know what to do anymore. I was going to call the office again today to complain but I don’t know if they are actually calling the tenant upstairs? I have another 4 months in this lease and just want to be able to sleep through the night.
Any advice/suggestions are appreciated.

Does such an item exist? I really dislike the proprietary bag/litter etc subscription model that many companies base their long term profit model on and want to avoid it first and foremost. I also don't want a company that bakes in planned obsolescence. Ideally one that is also well-designed with repairability in mind such that the whole item isn't scrap when one sensor or joint goes out. Hoping someone can advise!

I finally found something MORE expensive than public chargers. Some condo association is charging 3X what residential electricity costs. And it’s only level 2, not a DC fast charger.
Most homeowners pay 16-17 cents per KwH. Unless you live in California, where it's about double: 31 cents or higher in most places. Public chargers in most of the USA go for 28-35 cents. The condo in the link below may have just set an American record. It's chargers cost 28 cents per KwH a couple years ago. Then they doubled it to 58 cents. For level 2, the slowest, lamest charger you can use. See link below.
Where is this rip-off happening? Massachusetts. How can the condo get away with this? Well, Taxachussetts is one of the places where, BY LAW, all new homes and condos must come with EV chargers.
Any cost advantages to owning an EV are going up in smoke. Government regulations now require the purchase and installation of chargers, but don’t provide any protection against price gouging. Your only escape from this con game is to install solar panels on your roof, or a personal wind turbine (if local codes allow).
A wind turbine might work better in Massachusetts, which is halfway to the arctic circle (latitude 42 degrees). It gets a mind boggling 4 feet of snow each winter. Between that and lots of cloudy/rainy days the rest of the year, you can’t really count on getting enough solar rays to commute to work. So pay your 58 cents per KwH and quit your bitchin’ . . .
How awful is this? Well, a Tesla 3 uses 34 KwH to travel 100 miles. And this condo electricity costs 58 cents per KwH so your bill is . . . $20 for 100 miles. If this sounds reasonable to you, remember that you could have purchased a Honda Civic Hybrid, which goes 100 miles on 2 gallons of gas. Gasoline costs less than $3.50 a gallon most places. Oh . . . and the Civic Hybrid stickers for $10,000 less.
Welcome to the future, which evidently WON'T be electrified. If you're a stock market investor, maybe buy Exxon, and not Tesla?

Full disclosure – last month this writer bought a 2025 Honda Civic Hybrid Sport Touring (top trim) at full sticker price of $33,300. So now I am obsessed with mileage comparisons. Bonus factor – my Civic apparently won’t burst into flames and burn at 1,000 degrees if it bumps into something.

I recently tried to create a comic translator. Where japanese/chinese text is converted to english and using inpainting erased the japanese/chinese text and paste english translated text. But the accuracy of translation is really low and some texts are not translating. I researched a little where you can use APIs of DeepL, GPT, Google etc.. but it is expensive.
Can some one help me give instructions to make this project possible without any expenses and with great accuracy.

I am from Europe but I moved to Brazil for work 2 years ago. Here it's not that easy to find good parts for a good price (importing it's waaaay to expensive), but hey.. the price has to be paid...
