I'm devastated to receive the results of my soil test and learn that I have high levels of lead and copper. I'm in the Paris suburbs, it's not terribly surprising, but my garden plans are crashing and burning. Anyone have resources on how to get rid of the lead and copper? I know some plants extract them, and I know that some amendments can help, but I'm not sure if there's any real hope in ever having a garden here.
I was planning to have a mini permaculture garden... now what?

2024.11.26 15:40 dadoftriplets Is there a problem with supply of Goodyear tyres at the moment?

Bit of an odd question but does anyone know if there is a problem with the availability of Goodyear Vector 4 gen 3? My usual go to place (Costco) says they are out of stock with no restock date available and searching online for other physical locations, no-one seems to have any Goodyear vector 4's listed (in the size I need at least - Goodyear Vector 4 G3 205/60/16 96V XL) The problem I have is my drivers side front tyre has a slow puncture which I've been told cannot be repaired due to the location of the puncture, and so will mean I'll need replace of both of the front tyres primarily because they are all season tyres and a different in tread depth will affect the aquaplaning resistance BUT I can't find the right size and speed/weight rating for my car.
What do I do if I can't find the right tyre anywhere? Keep pumping up the old one every day/other day until they come in or can I mix the Goodyear rears with Michelin Cross Cilmate 2 as they are an all season tyre as well?

I'm feeling really sad about my baby shower. Initially, I wasn't going to plan one because my inner circle is small. I have a few close friends, coworkers and family. After being encouraged by family and friends, I decided to plan a shower.
Unfortunately, now people are canceling left and right. My guest list went from 20 to less than 10, including my mom who is helping me plan. I already reserved a small cafe, bought decorations and party favors.
What hurts the most is that my close cousin recently announced she's expecting and is planning a gender reveal for the weekend before. This caused her sister to cancel on me because she doesn't have enough pto for both parties. For the past 6 years, it's been all about them in our family. Their big weddings and events for their kids. I was hoping to have the spotlight for a little bit.
I feel defeated.

2024.11.26 15:40 Thesoundofgreen What should I do with my old deteriorating chimney?

I have an old chimney in my house. It is behind the walls, but I can see it in the attic and crawlspace. The house is old, 1910, and the chimney is in bad condition. If you gently touch the mortar, it flakes away very easily. Which of the 3 options makes the most sense?
1) ignore it, it is behind walls so its not like it should be getting too much damage, but if I ignore it, what are the chances it literally collapses and takes part of the house?
2) remove it. I Feel like I could do this myself since it is in such rough condition. Before starting, what should I think about? I have natural gas forced heating through an HVAC system. There is a separate flue pipe, so I am assuming the chimney is entirely useless, but how can I be certain? This will be a pain since I have to tear down the walls on two floors and add new roofing.
3) Open the walls, repoint the bricks, and convert the chimney into a fireplace. Is this possible? The chimney is square and about 15" by 15". Also I think the bricks are in decent enough condition but I am not really sure how to check.
