I am visiting from Canada (I am Arab though) and I am an accounting graduate with some experience in tax audit. I was looking for a possible move in the next year or two (for personal reasons) but I just wanted to visit first to get a feel for the country.

I was diagnosed with pre-diabetes a couple of years ago and became diabetic a year ago. I was then prescribed metformin, which I was very bad at taking since it gave me a lot of GI issues..
Fast forward to end of Sept, my diabetes got worse.. my A1C was at 9.8. I finally went to an endocrinologist to help me with diabetes management. My doctor is so reassuring. He let me know that my A1C of 9.8 is not the end of the world. He put me on Ozempic (0.25-0.5mg/wk) and had me keep taking my metformin. I also subscribed to one of those monthly CGM subscriptions so that I can monitor my blood sugar 24/7.
Well, it’s been two months since my initial appt with my endocrinologist and my lab works are out from yesterday.. my A1C is 6.7! I went from 9.8 to 6.7 in 2 months. I am so happy. I even went to Spain a few weeks ago for vacation and ate carbs.
I just want to say thank you to everyone who contributes here on Reddit. It’s really my number one source of inspiration.
Now.. I’m trying to figure out how to eventually wean off meds but still manage my diabetes. I’ve cut out simple carbs from my daily diet and switched them to more complex carbs. I don’t do any added sugar. I’ve cut out fruits. I’ve also limited the amount of carbs I eat. I don’t want to do keto. How did you get off meds?
