I have physical and mental issues. I'm on disability. A newer friends I have is constantly making one of those health issues the brunt of their jokes of me, to me. This person is rude to most people and has a short fuse as well. I'm not special being targeted by them but am around d them the most than anyone probably. It doesn't stop only gets worse and more frequent. Sone comments are truly shocking.
In the past when I called them out on other stuff they gave me the silent treatment and didn't talk or even look or go near me for months. We are in the same building so it's pretty awkward. Our pets also love each other and why we even started talking in the first place.
At what point is taking this toxic verbal bs not worth it to just have peaceful "normal" interactions when we must cross paths? I got good news related to my health today I thought I'd never hear. They knew this and thought it was a great opportunity to say some really upsetting things to me, related to that in a way, passing it all off as "jokes".
I honestly want to be done with them completely but don't know how to go about that without some crazy backlash in some way. It just gets worse and they're mean to many people a lot.

My wife got me an S2 for my birthday. I was super excited to get it flying, so today I rode down to the local hobby shop to get the stuff I need. I needed an XT60 female to XT30 male pigtail so I could charge the battery, and I needed a DSMX satellite to run it with my IX14. I also wanted to grab another battery or two so I'd have more than just the one that comes with the heli.
I just won a $30 gift certificate to that shop, so I figured this was the perfect opportunity to use it, and I'd be flying this afternoon as opposed to waiting for a delivery from Jeff's Hobby Shop (Amazon) or Helidirect. This shop has let me down in the past by not having stuff I needed, but today I wasn't looking for anything particularly specialized.
This shop is always a bit thin on heli stuff, but I was encouraged when I walked in and saw an S2 for sale on the shelf. Surely they'd have what I needed, since they had the exact heli I had in-hand. They didn't have a single thing that I needed. Not one item. Their solution for my charging dongle was either to sell me connectors to solder myself, or a convoluted daisy chain of multiple connectors to get where I needed to go. Of course, they offered to order it all for me and have it early next week.
I get it that a local shop won't have SAB parts, or a big selection of electronics for 700-class helis. They're a relatively small niche of a niche hobby. With that said, it's pretty disappointing that they didn't have even the basic stuff to get an S2 flying. That means that if some customer walked in and bought the S2 they had on the shelf, that customer wouldn't even be able to fly it without ordering more stuff online.
This speaks to a bigger problem for local small businesses, not just Hobby Shops. "I don't have it, but I can order it for you" is NOT an acceptable answer. I try to support local businesses. If I'm in the store that means that the item I'm looking for is urgent enough for me to drive to the store, plus likely pay more than I could pay online to get it in hand that day. I can order stuff just as easily as the shop, and I will likely get it in hand faster and cheaper, without having to drive back to the shop to get it.
People want to blame Amazon and other online retailers, plus big-box stores for killing local businesses. While this may be part of the problem, a much bigger part is that so many of these local businesses are still run like it's the 1990s where they have a captive audience that doesn't have other options readily available to them. Then they have the audacity to act like it's the customer's fault for taking their business elsewhere, as if those local businesses are entitled to the sale simply for being "local".
So guess what? I'm ordering my stuff from Amazon. It will be here Friday, and the local shop loses out on today's sale, plus it's just one more data point to remind me that it's not worth driving across town to try to get what I need.

I work at a company with this guy, let's name him Paul. Paul and I became quick good friends because we both like similar things and would hang out every once and a while. He recently moved away from working in store and is doing WFH, which he has never done before. Our company hasn't done a sole WFH position before either, they made an exception as his expertise is important. He has an office at his house with our company supplied PC and stuff in there -- as well as his gaming stuff and a TV. We are both friends on the same gaming platform, and it will notify my phone when my friends are online. He has been clocking into work, and sitting down to play video games on the clock. Just today he was playing, because I knew from the phone notification, and he missed a call from my co-worker who actually needed to ask him a question. He called back 20 minutes later, meaning the match or whatever just ended.
Long story short, my friend is stealing time from work and I know about it -- but I feel conflicted on ratting him out because then I lose a friend. Which is made worse by being a silent bystander; making me feel guilty knowing it's going on behind my works' back. Thoughts?

Hai yall, this is my first post here, so I apologize if I do anything wrong. Please do let me know if I should edit anything in the event that this post isn't following the rules.
I recently bought "Classical Field Theory" by Florian Scheck. The book isn't exactly the easiest read (at least for me) so I've been trying to go through the book fairly slowly and understand all of the statements (occasionally getting out a piece of paper and doing some work on my own just to make sure that I'm following). However, I've hit a snag that I simply cannot pass, and thus have come here for help.
The text is discussing current density in spacetime (perhaps a better word for it would be "electromagnetic source density"), and in order to demonstrate the concept, they gave what one would presume to be the simplest example: a charged particle moving through spacetime. From there, an expression for the 4-vector field that represents the current density was given. Here's a rough screenshot of the relevant bit, and I can take a larger screenshot with more of the context if it's needed (the j(y) expression at the bottom of that screenshot is the current density).
The expression that's causing me so much trouble is the expression for j(y). I'm right confused as to where it comes from, nor do I have any idea on how to evaluate that integral or interpret it. Further, an exercise on the next page asks us to manually find the 4-divergence of that current density (to verify that it obeys the continuity equation).
For what I've figured out myself thusly, I understand that x(τ) is a path along spacetime and that u is the tangent vector to x(τ). Then, u(y) is that tangent vector at a particular point (which implies that the integral is probably actually four integrals, one for each component of u(y), and evaluating each one gives a component of j(y) on the left). The expression "δ(y-x(τ))" doesn't actually refer to subtracting x from y (because you can't subtract points on a manifold) but it just means that the dirac delta evaluates to infinity when y=x(τ) and zero everywhere else. However, while I understand the factors that shows up on the right hand side of the current density expression, I don't understand what it means as a whole. How would we integrate with respect to proper time?
I'm sorry for the rambly message. I know that this subreddit usually answers conceptual-type questions and not more "technical" ones like this, but I would really appreciate it if I could be helped out here. As this post has probably demonstrated, I'm not particularly proficient or comfortable with relativity yet, and want to improve my physics understanding so that I can carry on with the rest of the book and hopefully gain something from it. 150lbs—>135lbs still going. 5’2
Ever since I was a kid, I noticed my calves, buttocks/hips and upper arms were slightly bigger than other girls. It always bothered me, because we were all around the same size in every other way. I still thought I was just chubby, and on a surface level it looked like that too. It was not until I got older I found out I had a relatively mild form of lipedema. I always just looked “a little chubby around the arms and legs”, not disabled.
I don’t feel pain but it’s so unattractive, and as I got older it got worse. It’s like every woman has tiny little upper arms and tiny little calves except me. even overweight women! I look at women much bigger than me, and I think to myself, “If I were her size, my legs would totally not be as small as hers.” (That’s how I knew my body was abnormal.)
I feel like I’ve lost a good amount of weight, but my legs and - especially the most bothersome of the bunch - my arms are still so fat! I have not lost much weight from them at all.
It makes me so insecure. I hate my abnormal fat distribution so much. I have heard weight lifting seems to fix it, so I’m considering getting a gym membership instead of just working out at home like I have been.
People say a lot of conflicting things but I’ve been lead to believe the only real way to fix this is a liposuction. Honestly, I wouldn’t mind that. Does anyone else have lipedema and is on a weight loss journey? What has personally helped you? I’m struggling :(
Lipedema (from Wikipedia) Lipedema is a medical condition that is almost exclusively found in women and results in enlargement of both legs due to deposits of fat under the skin. Women of any weight may develop lipedema and the fat associated with lipedema is resistant to traditional weight-loss methods.
Unfortunately a lot of women do not realize they have it until they are well older. I certainly didn’t think I could possibly have it because I didn’t look like the morbidly obese women who obviously had it, but I was so wrong. Any woman of any weight can have it! And they might not even realize it, or be in denial about it, much like myself at the time.

2024.11.26 21:20 Pesto_Skeptic [S2 Spoilers] Any Other Parents Hit Hard by Vander Scenes?
The scenes with Vander in season 2 leave me with a profound sadness at the concept of loss between child and parent. I read a lot of classic American tragedies, but there’s something about the visual beauty in Arcane that so deeply affected me as a parent and illustrates one of the great fears: not being there anymore when they need you.
When I was in college I took my granddad to the cafe he used to take me when I was growing up shortly before his health declined. Half way through, he forgot who I was. The experience put me off-balance with him the rest of the time we had together. Sometimes, in the moments you spend with your kids you try frustratingly to take the image in and appreciate it. The thought of losing those little watercolor paintings is almost too much to bear.
Curious what others think. I know with time I’ll want to rewatch the series, but it’ll be some time before I can watch the Vander parts again.
Side note: I have a routine appointment with my therapist to keep the engine clean, which I’d recommend to anyone of course, but the next session is some time away. Revisiting this page after a couple years has been really cool and a great outlet to turn thoughts over in the meantime.
