2024.11.26 23:31 Hamiltonfan25 Debbie From Wild Thornberry's Is Actually a Tragic Character
I feel like those of us who watched Wild Thornberry's as kids, might have not always had the most sympathetic view of the older sister, Debbie. She's kind of written as a stereotypical bratty teenager, someone who acts as a foil to the fun and free-spirited Eliza and the black sheep of the Thornberry clan, due to her having the least amount of interest in the family business.
I am not here to argue that she's a saint or anything, she definitely isn't. She can be very self-absorbed, rude, and dismissive of her family, but I do think she's significantly deeper than most fans tend to give her credit for.
This poor 16-year-old girl, CLEARLY has ZERO interest in nature or animals or anything else having to do with the business of her parents' business venture or their nature docuseries. Yet, she is constantly TRAPPED in this environment with minimal access to the developed world. Nowhere they go seems to have much in the way of internet or civilization, she is almost never shown getting to interact with other teenagers or others her own age. She is only given the bare minimum of things like magazines and shopping and other things she likes.
At Debbie's age, she should be starting to make decisions surrounding what SHE wants out of life. She should be having relationships, studying colleges, and finding interests and hobbies that interest her. Yet, here she is, trapped with no one outside her immediate family, being dragged all around the world, and while her parents are filming their show, and Eliza is out getting into her own trouble, she is often tasked with staying behind and working to civilize Donnie.
On her own, Debbie seems to be forced to spend the most time with Donnie and being the one who has to put in the actual work to civilize him. Yeah, Nigel and MaryAnne OCCASSIONALLY pitch in, but they put most of it on Debbie. Yeah, she's shown half-heartedly invested most of the time, but at least she's trying.
I understand that the whole reason Nigel and MaryAnne turned this into a family venture is so they can have their careers. but remain in their children's lives. This would be fine if it was implied that they only do this for a season at a time, like they travel during school breaks, but also provide the kids an opportunity to live in a stable home for another part of the year. Back in the 90s, I am pretty sure that shows were still coming out in SEASONS!! Not releasing all year-round. There should be more balance, but it is repeatedly shown that the family lives on the road all year long.
It is sad, because Debbie will continually try to advocate to go back home or to be shipped off to a boarding school or just to be surrounded by peers occasionally. Yet, her parents won't even humor her on this. I am sorry, but at this age, Debbie has a right to have certain ideas about how she wants to live her life considered.
How unreasonable would it really be to consider letting her try some form of hybrid compromise? Something where she's not alone all the time, but that she still spends SOME time in the states and then other time on the road with her family? It seems like Nigel and MaryAnne operate on an "all or nothing" kind of model as opposed to putting the individual needs of their children first? Yes, due to both age and their interest levels, Eliza and Donnie would probably be best off if they stayed with their parents year-round. They both enjoy nature and animals and will probably be happiest and most well-rounded if they stay doing what they are doing. Debbie still needs her parents to some extent, obviously, but would it really be so earth-shattering to let her experience a semester back at a high school in the states? It would likely help with her attitude and allow the time she does spend with her parents to be more enjoyable.
I just think she deserves way better than what her family gives her, and I hope that she canonically is living her best life as a fashion designer in a major city.

Has anybody done any testing to determine how fast a UPS has to switch over to satisfy our 3D printers? I know it is kind of a broad question since there are so many printers out there.
I have a Qidi Plus 4, Bambi minis, and Creality K2 (on the way) that I would like to put behind one or more battery power stations. These stations have UPS mode, but the switchover is more like 20ms, not <10ms like most computer UPSs.
Has anyone tested their printers behind these slower power station UPS setups?

Hi everyone! Thank you for those that helped me decide on the plan to use for Fizz. I'm glad I waited for Black Friday cause now there's amazing deals (especially the phone plans) on Fizz. I'm thinking of trying out Fizz's refurbished phones. I know there are risks but I'm willing to take them. My question is right now, while I know Fizz uses Purolator to deliver items, but on their website it states that for returns within the 15 days period (along with the other things like make sure everything is there etc.) it's Canada Post.
As everyone knows, Canada Post is on strike. So is Fizz currently using Purolator also for returns? As I don't want to be stuck with the refurbished phone I don't like after trying it. Thanks.

Hi, I have an LLC (sole proprietor) and have raised $45,000 for a short film through Film Independent (technically a grant) and Kickstarter, who are both providing 1099s and listing our donated money as income. We were initially planning on shooting the film in 2024, spending all of the money, and deducting it. However, now we will not be shooting the film until January of 2025. We would like to avoid paying taxes on this "income" since it is all just going to be a future expense and nobody is taking any profit. Is there any way to do this?
