Hey throwaway account here just to hide my identity. II’m in my first year university and starting it a little later than other people due to some changes that happened in my life. So, i’m a few years older than everyone else and I was a little worried I wouldn’t be able to relate to the things that people are going through. Although I found some other students that aren’t as young as the other students and began hanging out with them since we seemed to have more in common. Let’s call them Regina, Gretchen and Karen. Through the semester everything was going well and we were our own little group. Until recently. Currently doing a group project with around 15 other people for the next few months. The project consists of design and doing our own furniture collection by hand and powered tools. I myself have no experience with power tools and do not trust myself with them either but I’m more than experienced with designing them for past jobs I worked at. During the design process I was tough for me and my new friends. Anytime I would disagree with any of the three of them for anything the three of them would gang up on me and would proceed to give back insults at my suggestions. Whenever the teacher wasn’t there and we needed to meet in groups, they would make sure that we’d meet at a time when I worked outside of school time. I tried communicating with them, and suggesting different times. I even joined the meeting virtually at one point but anytime I would talk, Karen would say something like “I don’t know what she’s saying” and basically roll her eyes. I even did a poster for our presentation and sent it to our team group chat because I knew damn well that they were going to judge me. And literally a minute after I sent my propositions, I heard Regina tell Karen that my posters were ugly. I was 20 ft away… My last straw was today. Today is when we decided to divide our tasks for our big first submission. Karen, being the leader she is, asked if everyone is ok with keeping their tasks. I said that I would be interested in doing other things such as the hand drawings. Mind you we have 7 drawings to submit. The teacher said that she was going to come back before the final submission to check how everything is going and I asked if maybe she could change the day because I was working and Karen basically said “c’mon” while rolling her eyes. Karen doesn’t have a job. After the teacher left Karen and her followers went to the task board and assigned everyone to their tasks and asking their opinions, except for mine. They tasked me to do the live models. Something I feel uncomfortable doing and I feel like would bring down the team. We’ve been friends for two months. They’re aware. I don’t know what to do anymore. I talked to my new friends about it and they said that the trio said they asked me if I was ok with it and that I said yes. Never had that conversation. I don’t know what to do anymore it feels like nothing is working. My mother keeps telling me that silence is golden but I feel like a coward for not defending myself.

Hi, I am 21 and have never been in a serious relationship. Having strict and controlling parents is a part of it. Yet, I still want to find something organic where I can start something as friends and then develop it into a relationship. But I think that connections today are superficial and seem forced. I know I am shy when talking to new people, so I find it hard to make new friends or even approach people, so wanting this kind of "slow burn" relationship seems impossible. Also, I am not active on social media, contributing to the difficulties. Besides that, every guy I had a crush on ended up liking one of my friends.
I am self-aware of how I present myself and look, but unfortunately, I've been told so many times that I look a lot younger than I am, which makes me think that might be why people my age do not approach me.
Besides that, living in this hook-up culture and being a virgin at this age, while all your friends are experienced, makes you feel as if you are worth it or if you are doing something wrong. But is not only about sex, but finding complicity and partnership. Moreover, comments like "love finds you when you need it" or "when you least expect it." But is it so wrong to want it now?
Could you guys advise me on how to be less shy or seem more approachable? And how to deal with this internal feelings.
