ELI5? Hair Color

2024.11.27 16:29 slashbackblazers ELI5? Hair Color

These may be dumb questions but I know nothing about genetics. Wondering if someone can answer some questions I have about hair color. I recently did 23 & Me and my results are 50% French & German, 38% British & Irish.
1) I am white and was born with very pale skin and very black, straight hair - so black that strangers stopped my parents in public to comment on it all the time when I was a kid. My dad had black hair, my mom had brown. My understanding is that truly black hair is super rare unless you are of a certain ethnicity, and it seems to be mostly people of Asian descent. What’s the simple explanation for why my dad and I would both have jet black hair?
2) my husband has blonde hair. We had two ginger kids. We don’t know anyone in either family that has had red hair. We know that means someone at some point in one of our families had it, but how far back can we assume it was? Would it have needed to be someone recent, or could it have even been someone from generations ago?

2024.11.27 16:29 MundaneUsual8521 Is NieR Replicant worth it for 23€?

I've played (and loved) NieR: Automata and I honestly didn't know of Replicant's existence up until a few months ago. Now it's on sale and I'm thinking of buying it. I've heard it's not as good as Automata, but am I still going to enjoy it? I've also heard it tells a more personal story as supposed to the more general philosophical themes Automata explores. That part kinda intrigues me but, is its story at Automata's level (or at last near to it)?

2024.11.27 16:29 naerox Sound Issues with Headset Audio Quality

Hi everyone, I’m experiencing an issue with my headset’s audio quality and hope someone here might have a solution:
Whenever the microphone is activated, such as in voice chat applications, the audio output quality drops significantly. This only affects application sounds like games or music, while system sounds remain unaffected. The issue occurs with multiple headsets, whether connected via Bluetooth or using a wireless USB dongle.
I’ve already checked all audio settings and toggled various options, but nothing has worked so far.
Windows 11 new installed.
Has anyone else experienced this issue or found a fix? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

2024.11.27 16:29 hellosunshine791638 Best Dating Apps/Places for 50+

My FIL lives in Abilene is recently widowed and interested in dating but is having trouble with all of the online scams. I have read that certain sites can be better in different areas and of course getting to an in person meetup quickly is much better than chatting online. Does anyone have an idea of which sites are a bit better in the Abilene area? Or are there any physical locations/groups that are good for dating for ages 50+?

2024.11.27 16:29 wabba_polo Recommendations for no/low smut comedy I can buy in print in English

I want to get a friend some funny BL for Christmas to introduce her to it, but I'm struggling to find something that works.
I want something funny and green flag that isn't too smutty as I want to ease her in!
Killer Crush or Love Tractor would be perfect but I can't find a print edition in English for them.
Punch Drunk Love and On of Off would also have been good but they have a bit too much graphic smut too early on.
Can't wait to read your recommendations! Extra points if it's grumpy/sunshine!

2024.11.27 16:29 Mr-JoeCool Passed on 3rd Attempt!

Yesterday morning I took my third attempt and passed, have been studying on and off since April through the attempts. Here's some thoughts on my personal experience and the exam:
For those who are struggling to get through it, you got this! The first two times I used STC and dabbled in Series 7 Guru videos...but this last time around I switched to Kaplan and amped up my time using videos from Series 7 Guru...and it helped A TON! Between the mighty 90, the 60 min day of test videos and many of the other long-form in depth videos...many of them helped grasp some of those topics that just are quite intimidating to read through in a book. Funny enough, I will stand by believing that I heard Dean's voice in my head multiple times when I was going to pick certain answers because I had listened to enough explication videos of his, so shout out to him!
Obviously may not be for everyone but I also found the Kaplan class to be quite helpful, I had an instructor named Marie, and she was awesome as well (only mentioning her name b/c I believe she deserves a shoutout!). She kept things very lighthearted, had great analogies and was very clear in outlining material and how we should prioritize time studying it since the s65 covers such a wide swath of things.
One thing additional thing throughout studying and the exam I found to be helpful is trying to identify what is prohibited vs. a violation. There would be answers that appear to be unethical...but the question is asking for a violation and it would trip me up, and vice versa.
Thanks also to all who responded to my "Am I cooked?" post the other day as well, thought I was done for going into this attempt but turned it around and somehow pulled my confidence back up to pull this off.
Good luck to all future test takers, happy to chat with anyone else still working through it!

2024.11.27 16:29 Clean-Experience123 Meatus sticking together?

Hey guys. I’ve been battling bxo for the last 6 months or so, and I’ve noticed something that I feel like is rarely mentioned. Occasionally, my meatus (the two “lips” at the urethra) sticks together. It’s not really painful, but I have to “break” them apart by applying a little pressure with my fingers. I’ve noticed they can also stick to my underwear and have small pieces of fabric stuck to the tip. Has anyone noticed anything similar? I usually practice auto-circ btw

2024.11.27 16:29 agileideation How Gratitude Can Transform Your Workplace Culture and Boost Productivity 🚀

Gratitude isn’t just a nice idea—it’s a powerful leadership tool that can transform your workplace culture and boost productivity. While we often think of gratitude in our personal lives, its impact in professional environments is profound and backed by research. Here's why embracing gratitude in the workplace is a game-changer and how leaders can make it a daily practice.
Why Gratitude Matters at Work Studies have shown that gratitude has a tangible impact on productivity, retention, and overall job satisfaction. In fact, 81% of employees report working harder when they feel appreciated, and 53% say they are more likely to stay with an employer that values gratitude. Beyond productivity, expressing appreciation fosters a more connected, engaged, and positive work environment—something that benefits both employees and leaders.
Yet, many workplaces still experience a "gratitude gap." While we might easily express thanks to friends or family, only 15% of people regularly show appreciation at work. This gap represents a missed opportunity for leaders to enhance team morale and build a stronger organizational culture.
3 Practical Ways to Bring Gratitude into Your Workplace Make Recognition a Habit: The most effective recognition is consistent, not reserved for major milestones. Regularly acknowledging both big achievements and small wins can significantly boost morale. For example, you could implement "thank you" moments at the start of meetings or make it a habit to send quick notes of appreciation. The key is to ensure that recognition feels authentic and meaningful, rather than a checkbox activity.
Personalize Your Expressions of Gratitude: A generic "thank you" doesn’t carry the same weight as specific, personalized recognition. Take a moment to acknowledge someone’s unique contribution or effort—such as "I really appreciated your help on that presentation yesterday; your insights made a big difference." When you tailor your gratitude to the individual, it resonates more deeply and reinforces the behaviors you want to see repeated.
Encourage Peer-to-Peer Appreciation: It shouldn't just be up to leaders to express gratitude. Foster a culture where employees feel empowered to recognize each other’s efforts. This could be as simple as setting up a shared gratitude board where people can post shout-outs or starting team meetings with a quick round of appreciation. When gratitude flows in all directions, it helps to build a more connected and supportive team.
Real-World Examples of Gratitude Practices Some companies have taken gratitude to the next level, implementing formal and informal practices to embed appreciation into their cultures:
Campbell Soup Company: Former CEO Doug Conant wrote over 30,000 personalized thank-you notes to employees during his tenure, which helped dramatically improve the company's morale and performance. Google: Implements a peer recognition program where employees can send digital thank-you cards to each other, often accompanied by small rewards like a gift card. This encourages a culture where appreciation is everyone's responsibility. Zappos: Embraces gratitude by empowering employees to reward each other with small bonuses and public recognition. They also have a "Wow" recognition program where employees can nominate their peers for outstanding contributions. The Benefits of a Gratitude-Driven Workplace Implementing these gratitude practices can lead to a host of positive outcomes, including:
Increased Employee Engagement: Grateful workplaces see more engaged employees who are willing to go the extra mile because they feel valued and motivated. Improved Retention: Employees are less likely to leave companies where they feel appreciated, saving organizations the cost of high turnover. Better Mental Health: Research has shown that gratitude can reduce stress and increase overall well-being, leading to happier, healthier employees. Overcoming Common Obstacles Despite the clear benefits, many leaders struggle to make gratitude a priority in the fast-paced business world. Here are a few tips to overcome common barriers:
Time Constraints: Making time for gratitude doesn’t require large chunks of your day. Even a few minutes each day spent recognizing team members can have a meaningful impact. Feeling Awkward: Some leaders worry that expressing gratitude may come off as disingenuous. The solution is to be specific and authentic in your recognition, focusing on genuine appreciation rather than forced compliments. Cultural Norms: In some work environments, expressing gratitude might not be the norm. As a leader, you have the power to shift that culture by setting the example and encouraging others to do the same. A Simple Practice to Start Right Now Try this: In your next team meeting, begin with a round of gratitude. Ask each person to share one thing they appreciate about a colleague’s work or a small victory they’re proud of. It may feel unfamiliar at first, but over time, it can become a powerful ritual that sets a positive tone and builds stronger connections among your team.
Gratitude isn’t just a buzzword or a fleeting trend—it’s a practice that can reshape your work culture and create lasting benefits for your organization. The more you integrate appreciation into your leadership style, the more you’ll see positive changes in employee engagement, productivity, and overall well-being.
What are your thoughts on gratitude at work? Do you have any experiences with gratitude practices that have made a difference? Let’s discuss in the comments!

2024.11.27 16:29 ConfusedFlower1950 Estranged parents put me on their health insurance while i was on medicaid.

I was staying inpatient at a hospital last year when i was told that my insurance wouldn’t cover my medications. I was on medicaid at the time so this didn’t make any sense to me, but they gave me the name of the insurance company they were billing and it was a completely different one.
I called the number and found out that it was my estranged father’s plan, and he had put me on it likely some time after i cut him off in early 2021. It was cancelled for me at some point prior, but i needed the cancellation date for my medicaid insurance to be processed. That date ended up being in mid 2023, long after i went no contact.
Does this mean my father was intentionally still claiming me on his health insurance? Could this happen again? I don’t know why they would do this either, as they told me in the past that adding me on it (as a minor) would raise their costs, and they said it did raise their costs a lot when they added me in 2020. But they told me they removed me in 2021 so I don’t know how or why this would have happened.
