It’s been a little over a year since we got my Mom’s diagnosis of stage 4 pancreatic cancer. I remember going to the ED with her the night of thanksgiving and being discharged in the early morning of the day after with the (suspected but obvious) diagnosis.
Lost my mom a little over a month later.
It’s been 10-11 months since she passed and I feel like I live an entirely (unwanted) different life. I want to go back. How am I closer to her 1 year anniversary of her death than her actual death date? It doesn’t feel like time has continued. Just long days, weeks, months. I’m not celebrating thanksgiving or christmas or new years this year. It’s too hard when you’re alone.

2024.11.28 02:50 Fr3yz How to 'be' the character as I write?
I write purely for the sake of it. Quite a beginner too, just for a few years of experience and months for serious writing. So far, I've had lot of fun translating my imagination towards writing, planning, experimenting and perhaps failing a few times with certain ideas as I abandoned a few of them :P
One mild problem I've noticed right now during the writing process of my first draft is the intervention of my ego and self-consciousness to the characters. What I mean by this is that I tend to have idealism and conscious control freak over my characters and the way they should behave, not for what they actually are.
I feel like planning and controlling the characters are two different things. Planning is coming up with their core values and motivation, and controlling is active intervention during the writing process.
I've tried using empathy—and it somewhat works, but I typically tend to 'lose' their voice and fall back into my conscious control. In the end, they will lose their authenticity.
Perhaps I'm just lacking in experience? Or perhaps it could be expanded during later drafts? What's the principle?
Basically, what I wanted to learn is the ability to have more 'immersion' to my characters, becoming who they are—not what I must control. I wanted to empathize to them deeply into their absolute core whilst still having their 'core' lying over my head as a guide as I detach my ego and consciousness.

A buyer reaches to depop that they haven't recieved their item after like 2 days of purchasing(i told them their item will be shipped tuesday/Wednesday and they were okay with it). Now depop gave me 2 days to provide them with valid proof of postage. i quickly shipped their item using my own shipping and gave them the tracking number ( with name and address it was going to) but they said they cant accept it as valid proof because on evris website it still said " we are expecting the item" . I told them its not my fault that it hasnt updated on the couriers end. 2 days later they refunded the buyer because the tracking still wasnt updated on the site. WHAT DO I DO PLEASE SOMEONE HELP . I HAVE BASICALLY SENT A £45 shirt FOR FREE AND THEY GET TO KEEP THEIR MONEY ASWELL.

I'm sorry if this is hard to read, but I've been holding all of this in for a while and need to vent. I understand that sometimes my emotions can cloud my judgment, especially in this situation, but I need advice.
I (15F) am a freshman in high school and have been best friends with M since 6th grade. We made a friend group of four, and I would consider the other two girls my best friends as well, but I've always felt especially close to M. From 6th to 7th grade, there were no issues. However, in 7th grade, M admitted to my friend group that she had depression and was taking antidepressants and another pill for her anxiety (it's still a little foggy). I never noticed anything about her that would hint at this, but she said she hid it pretty well. I didn't pay much attention to it because it wasn't really noticeable, and I kind of forgot.
In 8th grade, things started getting rocky. The first issue came on Halloween, when my friends and I planned a group costume. We were going to meet at my house and then go trick-or-treating. M wouldn’t pick up any of our calls until half an hour after she was supposed to meet us, and when she finally did, she said she was sick and couldn’t come. We were kind of annoyed because our plans were delayed, but we didn’t think much of it. After that night, she didn’t come to school for almost two weeks and kept very low contact with my friends and me, saying she was sick. I'm not sure how it transitioned into this, but she started missing about two days of school every week. It was really frustrating because I would just stop seeing her in class and didn’t get to talk to her much.
More of our plans were canceled, like the winter dance we had planned to go to. All of my friends met up at my house, and we waited for her for an hour. We kept calling, and she wouldn’t pick up, until my mom called hers, and she said she was sick. We were all seriously annoyed because we missed over an hour of the dance because of her. After that, she started missing 3 or more days of school each week, and whenever I would ask her why, she’d tell me she was sick, which obviously wasn’t believable after weeks of hearing the same excuse. Other people started noticing and asking me why she wasn’t there, and when I answered with "I don’t know," she got mad at me for not telling people she was sick, even though it wasn’t believable.
We would still hang out, and when I asked her about the plans she had canceled in the past, she told me she wasn’t actually sick but was stressed because she didn’t have enough time to get ready. Sometimes, on half-days, I’d hang out with her, and she would convince me to go to one of our houses so she could redo her makeup before going out because she thought she looked bad. Our plans would be delayed, and by the time we got to where we were going, no one we were planning to meet was still there.
This year, she showed up normally for about two weeks, but ever since then, she hasn’t come to school for weeks at a time. In October, she came to school maybe 4 or 5 times, and this month she’s been to school twice. It’s just annoying because I’m always disappointed that I never see her in school anymore, and the workload is a lot heavier, so we don’t have much time to hang out outside of school. She hasn’t been canceling plans recently, but she has been showing up late. One incident was last Sunday when she showed up 3 hours after we invited her, and by that time, two people had already left. On the Friday before that, my friend group went to a football game, and she was planning to leave an hour late. She was calling me angrily when I was at the game because she couldn’t get a ride and didn’t want to walk alone because she thought it was embarrassing. Her house is less than a 5-minute walk from the stadium, and my friends and I were actually watching the game.
What compelled me to write this post was tonight, when my friend group had Friendsgiving. We both wanted to make mac and cheese, but I decided to let her make it, and I made something else. First of all, she didn’t come to school today, so she had all day to make it (she even told me yesterday she was caught up on all her work). But when we called her at 4:30 (the event started at 4), because she wouldn’t answer her texts, she said she couldn’t come until 5:30 because she was on a call with her tutor. We told her that everyone was leaving at 7. At 5:45, we were frantically calling her, and she told us she hadn’t made the mac and cheese and wouldn’t come. We had to convince her to come anyway, which she agreed to, and she showed up at 6:50. I was so annoyed but wasn’t sure if it was justified, so I didn’t say anything.
The 10 minutes before she left, all she did was complain about how she wasn’t on anyone’s private stories on Snapchat, except ours. I asked her who, and she started naming people. For one girl, I was like, "I talk to her every day in this class," and she said, "Not more than I talk to her," and I was confused. I asked if she texts her, and she said she didn’t. I suggested it’s because she’s not at school anymore, so I talk to more people, and she got angry at me, implying things like, "No, they didn’t put me on their private story because we liked the same guy," etc.
It just made me feel bad, and like I couldn’t be honest with her. It’s so draining being her best friend, and I talk to my other friends more than her now. I’m just really annoyed because it’s been affecting me, and even my grades a little, and I’m not sure what to do or if I’m justified. Any advice?

I’ve struggled with weight ever since puberty. I’ve successfully done traditional calorie restriction as well as keto a few times (I am currently doing keto again just for fun really as I’ve lost most of the weight I wanted to lose). So my interest in this sub isn’t exactly weight loss specifically but related to it, how obese and post-obese metabolisms actually work and what we can do to heal insulin resistance instead of just slapping a band-aid over it (doing keto and/or calorie restriction forever until you die). This is a field I really knew nothing about and am excited to read more and experiment more with my own diet.
I appreciate just how scientific this sub is. Most other diet subs are merely anecdotal and very rudimentary in their understanding of the science. This sub gets into the nitty-gritty and into the actual chemistry. I’ve learned a lot just from reading old posts and threads. Even when it’s only hypotheses or speculation, it’s great to hear differing perspectives for causes of certain metabolic reactions, with genuine debate and discussion happening, no toxicity or name-calling. That’s very rare on Reddit.
