This relates more so to Harvard’s Statement of Perspective but I suppose it could still be relevant for diversity statements.
Would I be correct in thinking that this statement does not have to DIRECTLY incorporate law and my reasons for law school? Like could it be as simple as this experience gave me a valuable trait/worldview and it will help me in law school?
I’m not an exceptionally diverse person (white, straight male, middle class, etc.) so I was considering writing about my statement about how my parents fled a war in their home country and came here with basically nothing. My dad did a lot of manual, tiring labor and he always told me to do well in school so I could have more opportunities than he did. This helped me develop a deep appreciation for education and motivated me to work hard to seize the opportunities I have. I was also considering mentioning how I saw many of cousins, whose parents came to this country under similar circumstances as my parents, drop out of school or not apply themselves and thus end up doing the same jobs their dads did. But, I’m not sure whether to include this cause it sounds like I’m taking a shot at my cousins.
I know this is a lot, but any advice would be very helpful. Thank you.
