Hey!
So, long story short... I visited Japan (very) recently and decided to go again in December.
I will bring my 7-year (almost 8) old daughter with me this time and we will be in Tokyo between the 24th and 25th of December. We are visiting from the UK, and I know that Christmas is not celebrated in the same way.
I didn't experience any decent/fancy restaurants during my first visit, therefore my question to you: as an alternative to KFC :), is there any place that I should consider for an (early) dinner with my daughter in Tokyo? No particular dietary restrictions and/or preferences, so you can go wild.

When I was 8 that’s when I first noticed that I had pinworms, my 8 year old self at the time didn’t know exactly but I saw the little white things in my underwear one night.
Where I got them I don’t know/remember, i was in a lot of school programs and summer camp.
My family is very hush hush about anything to do in general about taboo/not appropriate topics (Heavily religious) I remember one time my cousin mentioned about an infection starting in his four skin (which he had to have removed due to infection at 13) and all my family did was embarrass him and talk very publicly about it. Which has put the fear into me about ever bringing up my pinworms.
Fast forward now to 2024 and I still am suffering from pinworms and in my adult years I have such embarrassment even talking about it to anyone even a doctor due to how my family is, but I am really at my limit now as in four years it will be 20 years I have had them for now.
Sometimes I can go months without any of the itchiness or other symptoms but then it comes back tenfold and it’s horrible. I have recently gotten into a relationship and started a desk job where I will sometimes be required to work overnights (when the itching gets unbearable) and I need to do something about it.

Ciao amici e amiche vista la possibilità stavamo valutando di farci una notticina fuori ad inizio dicembre in zona nord italia visto che comunque partiamo da milano, quindi come regioni stavamo valutando: lombardia, piemonte, liguria, emilia, veneto, Valle d'Aosta, e simili. Roba raggiungibile in 3h massimo direi.
Ci serve un idea per qualcosa di carino da visitare in 1 giorno a cavallo di questa notte di evasione. Anche una semplice passeggiata in un bel centro cittadino anche se molte città le abbiam viste e speravamo in qualcosa naturalmente interessante. Escludiamo spa e simili per il mestruo time. Escludiamo i laghi sopra milano perché un po' li conosciamo.

It’s hard to take a photo of but my right ear has been swelling up on and off the past few weeks where my ear meets my head. It’s not too painful, only if I apply sort of hard pressure. The swelling is uncomfortable though because it creates those folds as you can see pictured. No itchiness. Any ideas what could cause this? 26F if it matters.

I work closely with Taiwanese people. One thing I like the most about them is how much smarter they are when it comes to making life decisions. Most of them have life savings and insurance. And they don’t dare to have kids they cannot afford to raise. In fact, their society is aging and their birth rate is at an all-time low. I know that’s not exactly a good thing because it does come with serious consequences but I can’t help but feel jealous because on our side of the world, we are dealing with the opposite-overpopulation.
I often wonder what our country would be like if people here were more responsible and didn’t just make babies as they please, and without giving it much thought. Taiwan isn’t the best country out there but it is way better than the Philippines. They have one of the best healthcare systems in the world. Almost everyone there is well-educated. They don’t have a lot of homeless people and yeah, apples and oranges but still, life there, is just generally better than life in the Philippines.
I have personally interviewed many Taiwanese and found out that a lot of them cannot bear the thought bringing a child into this world unless they are 100 % sure they’d be able to give them a good life. This always amazes me because even though I’ve always felt the same way about having kids, I feel like it’s not something I can openly discuss in the Philippines. I’m in my early 30s, child free by choice (obviously) and most people here, especially boomers, think that’s weird. What’s worse is that they always assume I live a sad life because of it.
Anyways, I’ve always wondered why most Filipinos like the idea of having kids? Especially those who clearly cannot afford to do so. Why are most people here wired so differently compared to our Asian neighbors? Japan and Korea have low birth rates too. And China! It’s China, come on. I know I am gonna get a lot of hate for saying this because what do Filipinos like more besides having kids? It’s romanticizing having kids. Kids are a gift from god, right?
Few years ago, I knew a girl who was suffering from major depression. She also wanted to have a kid. She had been in a long-term relationship with her boyfriend and was already in her mid 30s. She could not grasp why I didn’t want to have a kid. She thought I was weird. And all I could think of was why she wanted to have one knowing she could pass her condition on to her future kids? Or maybe she didn’t know? It seems like most people here don’t think about the consequences of having a kid and the many things that come with it. It seems like they just want to do it because it’s what’s expected of them. But do they really want it? I don’t know anymore.
I used to think it’s religion that makes people here think this way but honestly, I’m not sure anymore.
When Covid hit in 2020, we made news. International media outlets reported about our “lockdown baby boom”. Make that make sense. Most of us thought it was the end of the world, and the first thing these people thought of doing was to make more babies. Our hospitals were in full capacity and people were literally dying and they thought it was a good idea to get pregnant and crowd the hospitals? Make that make sense, Pinoys.
