 | Hello everyone. I have a backyard with a chain link fence bordering the back. There’s also a business bordering the back of my house. A homeless couple has taken residence on the back of my fence. I have cameras so I can see them and I don’t think they are drug addicts just from my observations. I’ve never actually talked to them and they’ve been there for about a month. I am going on a trip for a week on the 1st of dec which is where my fiancé and I apprehension comes in. We definitely couldn’t afford a break in and we have an alarm system but we have laptops and game systems laying around plus the damage of a break in. I want to talk to them. I don’t really care if they stay there. I totally see why they would pick that location and they haven’t been littering or anything else like others have. I just want to be on the same page though. Like “hey idc if you stay there but I just wanna make sure we’re on the same page. Like don’t cross the fence. Like I’ll leave y’all alone as long as you leave us alone.” And just be on the same page so there’s not that underlying wonder if something bads gonna happen. But idk everyone around me wants us to call the police because it’s too much of a risk but I feel bad ya know. In that lil corner they have some protection but everyone says I need to focus on us and our safety but idk. I’m very torn. I want to be nice but I don’t want my kindness to blind me to reality. Like maybe if we interact I can give them some of our leftovers or something but idkkkkk Long story short: homeless people residing next to the fence of my backyard. 2024.11.28 16:30 ref2018 [CONSUMER REPORT]: The company "GREATER BOSTON ROOFING" out of Andover, Massachusetts, installed cheap off-the-shelf doors instead of the custom-ordered ones I chose. This is the stereotypical crooked contractor. Don't hire them for your home improvement projects.
We hired this company to replace two exterior doors on our house. After signing a contract and paying the deposit in July, it was agreed and confirmed in writing that the estimate reflected the purchase of two doors which had a combined retail price of $2200 and would be ordered to custom specifications. I was informed that the installation would be carried out as soon as the materials were available. I received an email on Monday (November 4th) that the materials were ready and the installation would be carried out on Wednesday (November 6th). The work crew arrived on the 6th, removed my old doors, and began ripping out the frames. The supervisor or foreman person (not sure what they call it) told me he would be right back because he had to go pick up the doors. I believed that these doors he was referring to were the ones that were supposed to have been custom ordered, but once I saw them, I realized they were not the right ones. I called the office, and "B." (the manageindividual who signed the contract with me and confirmed that I would be receiving the doors I chose) soon arrived at the site and started giving me excuses about how they discussed this amongst themselves and decided I would be better off with these cheaper doors, etc. I told them to put back one of my original doors, board up the other opening with plywood, and come back with the correct doors. "B." said they couldn't do that because reasons. At this point it was obvious to me that they never ordered the custom doors I chose and made a conscious decision to deceive me in the hopes that I wouldn't notice until the job was completed, if ever. I knew they were trying to get me to "agree" to accept the cheaper doors and that this put me in a compromised position. "B." tried to corner me by asking for my consent and "approval" of the lower-quality products, and I told him that I no longer trusted him or believed anything he said, and that I did not accept these doors. Nevertheless, the holes in the house had to be closed somehow, and the only way they were willing to do that was by using the doors they had provided. They didn't even bother to paint one of the doors that needed it like the contract said they would, but it probably doesn't matter at this point because that door does not meet my needs for energy efficiency and security and will need to be replaced (in fact, both of these doors will need to be replaced, but the second one is a sliding door and didn't need to be painted).
Furthermore, these are not appropriate exterior doors for New England winter weather. These are not Energy Star qualified, and the ones I chose are ES qualified.
I almost forgot to mention the following: This company did not secure a building permit before starting the demolition, and right in the middle of everything, the city building inspector showed up and asked to see the permit. Since they didn't have one, the building inspector stopped the work and made them go downtown and get the permit. So not only is this company actively trying to scam hard-working, ordinary people in the community, they also don't even have their act together enough to know they need to secure a permit BEFORE they start the job.
Anyway, this company is now demanding that I pay the entire original balance on the contract, which was based on the higher price of the doors I chose (the doors they ended up installing retailed for less than $900 for both of them, while the ones I chose retailed for approximately $2200 for both), and threatening to put a lien on my house and to sic their collection agencies on me if I don't pay them the entire balance because I supposedly "unequivocally agreed" to the el-cheapo doors by "allowing" them to be installed (as if I am the one trying to stiff them).
I want other local homeowners to be aware of the dishonest and unethical business practices that Greater Boston Roofing uses so they can make a better choice than I did when it comes to choosing a contractor for their home improvement projects.

I’m facing this problem since years. Initially i was using a MacBook Pro, i was casually using my external hard drive from Seagate. One day all of a sudden my hdd didn’t work tried connecting with Windows and Mac it didn’t work. It was in APFS format so it didn’t work in windows tho. I replaced to the manufacturer and got a new one. With that new hard drive ( Ex-Fat ) I faced an issue where i tried to connect the hard drive it won’t show up, so when i try to open disk utility it keeps loading for a while. So i just want to know if it’s mounted or not so i opened terminal and ran this command “ diskutil list “ Even the terminal was loading and after some minutes the drive appears. Sometimes it shows automatically but 90% of the time i should do this to make my external disk appear. So i thought it’s my laptop mistake. So i tried a new with my colleagues macbook, same thing happened to him also. Later i bought a mac mini same thing happened to me again. But when i remove it and plug the drive in windows pc it appears. Also in many cases it struggles to eject, we have to force eject the drive, even though no application uses the hard drive. Is that a Mac issue? Should I switch to windows or setup a server to avoid this?

I made a post this morning of a picture of an advent calendar my parents got my niece last year for christmas. If you're not familiar with what they are, its basically a thin box that looks like a 25 day christmas calendar and inside of each date, there is a piece of chocolate and something written on the door flap you open. It had a joke written on the inside of it that CLEARLY should not have been on there.....
Joke: "What do christmas trees and priest have in common? Their balls are for decoration."
So I make the post, and it starts taking off.....I was actually surprised to be honest. Felt nice, especially since it was one of my own pictures. But then out of nowhere, I noticed it got removed. Oh, it violated a rule lets see what it is....oh "rule 9" posts can't be just text. Okay, I guess that makes sense, even though its text on a picture of a child's advent calendar that 100% shouldn't be there but sure, I'll move on.
That is, until I went to the subreddit and saw that the current top post is a STRAIGHT UP TEXT ON A PIECE OF PAPER ON A WALL.....So I politely messaged the mods seeing if there was some mistake, and not to my surprise I was met with the typical "I have the control" mod and they could not give me a rational response, just the suspicion of his bias for saying I had no proof it came from a "christian bookstore" so that makes the posts context "not valid".
I know I sound like a 5 year old crying about not getting his toy, but is there a reason that 90% of the mods on Reddit just dont give a shit about whether something is actually correct or not? Some groups are still great and have good people running them, but I feel like the majority of mods on the popular subreddits are just on extreme power trip mode 24/7 now.

I entered the masjid today since I was running late for maghrib, and I’m from a family where the ladies don’t really go to masjid that often, but wallahi it felt really really peaceful
and so I was thinking of praying all 5 prayers in the masjid since it’s just 3-4mins walk from my place, but I’ve also noticed they say it’s better for women to pray at home
