I would like some advice and opinions on if I should get into HVAC/R or stay with my current job.
I am a building/stationary engineer for my city government. I basically do rounds and monitor AHUs, boilers, and refrigeration systems in city owned and operated buildings. I also order supplies, do safety planning, write out procedures, and perform very limited maintenance and grounds work. All I really do is walk around the buildings and create work requests for our in-house trades or bring in a contractor to fix any issues. Im not allowed to do any major fixing nor do I know how. The rest of the work is office computer type work which I don’t like at all. It is a very easy boring job with benefits and an ok pension. The pay is alright, $31 to $34 an hour. In some ways the dream retirement gig.
My issue is I just turned 30 and have a lot of working years left. In this current job Im not really learning anything or improving. Im a jack of all trades type but am not specialized in anything and am feeling Im missing out getting certified in a trade and gaining more knowledge and skills.
HVAC/R has always interested me, hence why I got my boiler ticket and became a stationary engineer in the first place.
I respect this trade and the people who do it everyday. I would really appreciate if you guys could share your opinions and experiences on this trade and offer some advice on if I should get into it or just stay in my cushy stationary engineer job.

2024.11.30 03:40 bilalgag Landlord's janky PoE somehow crashing our wifi?
We rent a house in a rural area with DSL (yes, it's painful.) Our landlord lives in the house immediately next door. For various reasons, the landlord's house has never had its own internet connection, but at some point in the past a local handyman set up a PoE system (an antenna on top of our house connected to the DSL modem/router inside our house) to create an additional wifi network that could be used by the landlord.
Network setup is as described in the diagram attached.
CenturyLink router is inside our house. Wifi Network A is set up through CenturyLink admin panel which we can access/administrate. We use this network.
Landlord uses Network B, which I presume to be set up through the repeaterouter's admin panel. We do not have access to this admin and I don't even know the make/model of the repeater.
We enjoy a solid 8 mbps download on both networks most of the time. Intermittently, however, the speed on both networks crashes to 0.5 mbps (unusable) .. but is instantly restored by unplugging the janky PoE router from the modem. If you plug the PoE back in, the speed on both networks will drop again. If you wait about 5 - 10 minutes, the problem seems to pass.
The issue: We cannot figure out where or why this is occurring. Speed from the jack while it's happening is still 8 mbps according to the CL admin. Landlord is a senior and afraid of us touching the system but we could potentially talk to the handyman who installed it if we had a good hypothesis.
I am thinking it's damage to the cable from the injector to the antenna outside. Is there any chance it's the PoE injector?
Also, any advice on how to figure out what IP the admin is located out/access it?

Did Shuli ever show proof that he donated the $1000 to the Take Back The Night charity after his best friend Iso pled guilty to owning and sharing CP back in August?
Is it even legal to ask people for superchats to support a charity and then keep the money for yourself?
This a real question. Shuli has used other people to raise money for himself on many occasions. The first time I remember was when Ray Devito quit and graciously donated his last "pay check" to the "networks" producers...the producers never received it.
Shuli has done many full shows claiming their goal was to raise money for "the boys in the back" and their generous audience gladly stepped up with larger than normal donations...The boys in the back never got any extra money because its just "part of their job"
Shuli did a full week of shows claiming they were trying raise money to to give to Bob after KB didn't pay him. Those dumb fans had donated enough to the cause to have doubled Shuli's super chat numbers all week and easily doubled the money Bob was out...but Bob got nothing more than his flat rate. Shuli kept EVERYTHING extra.
There is a pattern here, and Shuli claiming he donated the money to charity anonymously doesn't look good.
Shuli has no shame.

The more I play Dragon age: The Veilguard the more I question a LOT of these super negative reviews of this game. There's no way they ACTUALLY played this game. It's by no means perfect, I have complaints about it. And yes mostly early on the dialogue is kind of "tutorial" like and simple but it started out as a live service game until they decided to scrap that and changed a lot of writers around so yeah it's kind of hit and miss for a bit but towards the end of Act 1 and on you can TELL that they found a groove and just kept getting better and better and better.
There have been legitimately funny moments, emotional moments, and just plain tragic moments. Even wholesome moments. The set pieces and environments are beautiful. The boss fights are amazing. Damn near all the main and side quests are worth playing and offer great insight into the world and it's characters. The combat is a little more on the basic side and can be mastered quickly. However, there is SOOO many different combinations, and buffs, synergies, etc. between the different abilities and geaequipment and companions that it offers a TON of customization. Especially since you can respec any time you want for FREE. And the gear and armor mostly looks great too.
Looting is damn fun in this and exploring will lead you to ways to improve your health and skill points with some light puzzle work. Gone is the awful open world bloat of Inquisition. I'm looking at you Hinterlands, you bogged down MENACE.I know a decent amount of the hate for the game is the typical anti-woke and anti-DEI nonsense but even the more "legit" sounding reviews seem to hone in on specific scenes or lines as proof of the "awful writing" and largely seems to be either misinterpreted or just flat out missing a ton of context. I fucking love this game.
