2024.11.30 04:23 BlitzkriegBomber Where/how to begin learning High Middle German for PhD-level work?
Hi all, total German newbie here...
I've been applying to PhD's lately for History, and my research proposal/idea (the Hussite Revolution/Wars) requires knowledge of German in order to read medieval (15th C.) manuscripts, as well as 19th-20th C. German secondary literature on the topic. Thus, I only really need reading, and German > English translation knowledge, so I don't believe speaking is as important.
How and where would I begin? I was thinking of Duolingo to start, then transitioning to some textbooks, and then perhaps going into some HMG textbooks if they exist? My PhD supervisor is saying she'll have a look around for online courses, and that Duolingo was a good place to start. The program itself doesn't begin until September 2025 (if I get accepted), so I have some time to grasp the grammar and whatnot.
I've heard "German Quickly" by April Wilson is good, but I'm not exactly sure how useful it'd be to a complete beginner like myself. In addition, there's a few courses around me that offer modern German, but I'm pretty sure it's only speaking and more cultural stuff. I've tried to research where to begin as much as I can, but it seems to be rather complicated compared to my beginnings in Latin, lol.
In addition, I have Latin and Czech knowledge. Is there anything available like "Lingua Latina" by Hans Orberg for German? As in, the entire book is in German, starting with basics and ending with complex sentences? Can't think of the term right now, so I'll just call it language immersion.
Thanks for your help!

2024.11.30 04:23 Inevitable_Row1337 Is the unbounded Milestone bugged?
Im trying to complete the Omega expedition and I noticed that I can't complete the Deep Glass milestone. When I select Deep glass the objectives say that some memories remain hidden to me. So I looked to see which milestone would give me the memory of bones and I think it should be unbounded, but the rewards are blank. Has anyone run into this issue before or does anyone know how to fix it? https://preview.redd.it/rkg6pg04uy3e1.png?width=995&format=png&auto=webp&s=e95c334284c5c433dfd4b637aeeabe14f237a5f1 https://preview.redd.it/5i3pch04uy3e1.png?width=1054&format=png&auto=webp&s=08f0c81ff0c085a49fe3840d3dc99d7d61f20597 submitted by Inevitable_Row1337 to NoMansSkyTheGame [link] [comments] |

2024.11.30 04:23 littlesunstar Question about salary range issue
My recruiter bid me for a job at X per year. She said she had no idea what the range was, but she made a guess. I interviewed and got an offer at X +10 K. Then I found out that it’s been advertised by a different recruiting firm with a range of X +10 K to X + 30 K. I literally feel like they got me at the bottom of the range because my firm didn’t bid me correctly. While I signed the paperwork, it might not yet be submitted. Should I just call it a win that I out competing everyone for the job by bidding low and giving a strong interview? Should I feel bad that I didn’t get another 10 K which would’ve been the midpoint of the salary range? Should I ask for more at this point if the paperwork hasn’t been yet submitted? Is that even a possibility or will it jeopardize the contract? My recruiter says they don’t give the range but obviously the other firm had the range because they advertised it. Any advice appreciated.

2024.11.30 04:23 Kate22277 Was told I could develop PCOS... some help? Inversed FSH/LH and glucose intolerance.
Hello. Im in my late teens and Ive always had problems with my periods. Ive been getting them for 8 years now, and they were never regular.
I went randomly to a doc (not for period problems) when I was 14. I had to mention my irregular periods cuz it was important for the check up. They said that I could expect that until 18, that its normal for them to be irregular for a long time.
Then at 16 I kinda lost it. Im exhausted, kinda weak, I need 9+ hours of sleep every day and I still feel tired sometimes. I went to a private gyno who told me to check out so many hormones and I did it. She said everything was normal.
Then later... I noticed that my progesterone levels were low for the phase I was in? I wasnt sure if I was gaslighting myself bcs I just really really wanted an answer for my problems. But I didnt come around to getting a 2nd opinion until this year.
I was in and out in exactly 14 minutes. She told me that my FSH/LH levels were inversed (FSH is 4.9 and LH is 6.5) and it indicates pre-PCOS. I was told I had glucose intolerance, that I needed to drop to ZERO glucose intake for 6 months to try and fix it naturally. I still made it to class after that event lmfao. When I got home, Ig all of that came to my head and I bawled for a good 2 hours.
My question is.. well I dont know. The ratio is only 1.32 LH:FSH. That doesnt seem terribly high? But then again I have the low progesterone. Is there any way I can try fixing it without dropping to 0 glucose for 6 months? Like the fuck am I supposed to eat anyways. (Also Im 100% sure this woman said 0 GLUCOSE. She repeated it a few times.)

2024.11.30 04:23 SafeDramatic6169 Hey y'all serious question please help!!! Tuf f17 i5-11400h GeForce 3050 vs cyberpowerpc i5- 14400F GeForce RTX 4060
Hey guys I just bought a cyberpowerpc 2 days ago from bestbuy and it's working fantastic so far and its quiet idk why people say it's loud lol but anyways I bought it for streaming and video editing but I had the Asus tuf f17 gaming laptop since 2021 it has GeForce RTX 3050 8gb of ddr4 ram... And the PC has 4060 8gb.... If I upgrade the ram on the laptop by adding another stick of 8gb ram would it work as good as the PC? I just realized I don't need my PC to stream so I'm trying to figure it out if I should take it back and upgrade the laptop or not ... The laptop can't play cod or gtav fivem without lagging like crazy to the point I can't play it but on the PC it works fantastic.... So long story short should I keep the PC or upgrade the laptops ram and maybe the Intel on it if that's possible?

2024.11.30 04:23 BigMickDo tablet recommendation for my father
I'm looking to buy a tablet for my father (75) , he mostly just browses the web, facebook, youtube, and maybe video call over facebook with other family members, so not really a power user I'd say.
I want something reliable since I might need to order this from overseas since (most likely amazon.de) since not many options here locally.
Thanks.
