2024.12.01 02:50 hajima_reddit Filed a noise complaint. Police came by, but left without talking to the noisy neighbor.
I wanted to ask if what I experienced was common or unusual:
I have a neighbor who is very noisy. Plays heavy bass loudspeaker with windows open day and night. Refuses to talk to me when I stop by to ask them to stop, and ignores my letters asking them to stop.
Stressed to my limits, I ended up calling the police. I was told that they (police) will talk to my neighbor when they can.
Here's what boggled my mind - A police vehicle did come by after about 30 minutes, but it left after idling for about 10 seconds. Police did not talk to my noisy neighbor - in fact, nobody even stepped out of the police vehicle to investigate what's going on.
Is this pretty typical of how police handles noise complaints? Or common practice?
Some additional info, for context:
- I live in a house, in a Midwestern rural college town, with local noise ordinance.
- The police vehicle stopped by at around 9pm. I'm pretty sure that there wasn't another police vehicle that came by later.
- Based on my phone's decibel meter app, my neighbor's noise level is typically around 60-90 dB (varies by when & where I do the recording)

Sometimes I listen to the podcast because they have guests I like, ie Jeff Lewis. However, I can’t help but feel incredibly annoyed by Natalie. She is neither funny nor insightful, and her constant interruptions with what she seems to think are “witty” under breath comments derail the guests’ conversations and make them lose their train of thought. She is entitled, sanctimonious, uninteresting, and entirely unfunny, which she keep making the guests visibly uncomfortable. Natalie has, in my opinion, completely ruined what used to be Nick’s great podcast.
One of the things I dislike most about Natalie is how she belittles Nick. Despite this, Nick remains kind and refers to her as “the love of my life,” which makes her entitled behavior even harder to tolerate. The cohosts, including Natalie, constantly make fun of Nick’s age, calling him “old” repeatedly. He’s only 44! Do they think all their listeners are in their 20s? Their remarks come across as offensive, rude, and ageist, alienating listeners over 44 and making them feel unwelcome.
It’s also super annoying that the cohosts (loudest of them being Natalie) often talk over each other and laugh uncontrollably for minutes at a time, drowning out any meaningful conversation. It’s just noise and chaos. All of this is incredibly frustrating for a loyal listener.
Nick keeps saying that he doesn’t read comments, but maybe he should, so he would stop Natalie from driving many listeners away.

I've been trying to hunt down a specific third party sourcebook for 5e that was very briefly mentioned in a video I watched ages ago and I can't seem to find it. Memory's not helping much either given that I can't remember the channel it was on (could have been dungeon dudes or dungeon dad, or someone else entirely). The only thing I very distinctly remember was a mention of monstrous playable races far outside the norm for most sourcebooks, and the image on screen looked a bit like a crab centaur?
I don't think I'll ever find the specific source book, so does anyone have any other 3rd party recommendations that might let you play as a big scary monster? I think my players and I would get a kick out of it for a horror one-shot or campaign of some kind. Could be playable races or just mechanics for playing A Monster. I know about the one from dm's guild that made stats for every monster manual monster already.
