I’ve been with my bf for 2.5yrs and I’m happy, we’re closed, and long distance for the next 2 years. However, today I was waiting at a crossing by some traffic lights with a stranger, he was cute, and he complimented my style and we got chatting for 10mins as we walked in the same direction and had some stuff in common. He was really easy to talk to, and seemed sweet. I felt a bit of a vibe, but thankfully he didn’t ask for my number or anything as we parted ways. I kind of can’t stop thinking about it though. I come from somewhere where having an encounter like that would never happen to me, it felt super organic and ‘like the movies’ as if ‘guided by fate if we were to Romanticise it to the grand kids’ - sort of vibe as opposed to the mundane way of just meeting people on apps, like how I did my boyfriend. How do you guys in long term, closed relationships deal with fleeting moments with strangers where you feel that pull. I wonder am I just missing physical connection as I havnt seen my bf in a few months now, and also am I more just hung up on that feeling of magic you get from an organic meeting with a stranger which I have never gotten to really experience before. I don’t think I wanted to kiss him, but kind of wanted to get to know him more like maybe ask him if he wanted to be friends or something (I’m newish to a big city and don’t have a lot of gay friends atm and it’s been lonely at times). Being gay is confusing. I have a lot of mixed up feelings and it makes me feel partly like I’m somehow being unfaithful and a bad bf for feeling a little turned around in the experience of it all.

2025.01.18 07:55 kernelrider I was almost kidnapped by a taxi driver in Thailand
I went to Bangkok with a PRC colleague on a pre-CNY trip this week and we had to cut our trip short after nearly getting kidnapped by a taxi driver.
We were taking a taxi back to the Grand Hyatt after dinner and I realized that we were getting farther and farther away from the hotel after looking at Google Maps since the ride was taking way longer than expected. I confronted the driver and asked him where he was going, but he didn't respond at all, and kept driving, as though he was in a trance. He refused to say a thing when we shouted at him to stop, even when my colleague was already in tears.
In the end I literally had to climb up front to punch him and bite him in the neck before he was willing to stop the car and let us get off before speeding off into the night.
In the end what should have been a 10-minute ride became a 2-hour ordeal since we we essentially stuck in the middle of nowhere in the outskirts of Bangkok had to take a grab back to our hotel.
My colleague was obviously traumatized by the experience and she insisted we return to Singapore right away, even though I tried to convince her this was a once-off thing. I had to write off our hotel and return flights on SQ and buy Scoot tickets for the next morning at an extortionate price ($400 apiece for a one-way!)
I am still shell shocked by the fact that something like this could happen to me, given that I've been to Bangkok nearly a dozen times over the years. I consider myself a seasoned traveller, having been to over 30 countries (including shady ones like Brazil, India and Mexico).
I think the only difference this time round is that I was travelling with my colleague who almost exclusively spoke Chinese, and in a PRC accent at that; the driver must have recognized the accent or something. I know PRC tourists aren't very popular anywhere around the world, but I never thought the backlash would ever manifest in such a frightful manner. In any case, I don't think I'll be caught dead speaking Chinese in a foreign country (other than Malaysia) ever again - the consequences of being mistaken for a mainlander are too great.

My partner and I come from Northern Europe, and he is in the process of getting an O-1 — meaning I’m not allowed to work as a dependent.
I’m (or we’re) trying to figure out how I could get a work visa, so that we could have a life together in the states for at least a couple of years. I have a M.Sc. in Engineering/Management and I’ve worked as a strategy consultant at a local firm for almost four years. The firm has a small US office, but they are very picky about who they send there.
So — what are my best shots? H-1B? Begging for a L-1? Finding an employer that would get me an E-1? I just feel so lost
