There's a concept in epistemology that I've enjoyed for a long time and I want to know if there's a formal name for it.
It seems to me most people are willing to accept a proposition as true so long as they have some combination of elements that support it (such as experience, logic, utility, etc). What I'm interested in is the idea of exploring why an idea may not be true as a condition of eventually accepting it.
Ancient people were aware of something very similar. I recently learned about "Purva Paksha" which is the idea that before criticizing someone's idea you should understand it as thoroughly as possible. This and other ideas (like "steelmanning") are similar but not exactly what I have in mind, as they still seem to be focused on the best reasons to believe a particular idea. I'm more interested in the best evidence or argument against an idea, although obviously there will be overlap e.g. evidence for a mutually exclusive idea X is just as good as evidence against Y.
I've been interested in this concept for decades, but every year I feel nonsense on e.g. social media highlights it more and more: it's not enough to find reasons to like an idea, you must find reasons to dislike it as well... so anyway, does that have a name?

2025.01.18 18:40 TheAno__ Quest 2 won't do anything.
So my quest 2 has been acting up A LOT. I've co tasted meta and they can't help me at all.
Here are the issues. The quest was factory reset and now the screen is Grey. When restarting or accessing the boot menu the screen stops being Grey and I'm able to reset it again or whatever the options are all while the controllers are vibrating like crazy. There's also a solid blue/purple dot where the quest indicator light

2025.01.18 18:40 OceanChildRD I get dizzy everytime I look up info about NHI/UFO's/Starseeds.
Awhile ago I made a post here, explaining I felt alone in my experiences. Since then I have gotten so much support that I realised I don't have to be afraid of feeling "different". I have however noticed something and I wonder if anyone is experiencing the same things. Whenever I look up info about UFO's/NHI, outerworld life I get dizzy, as if I suddenly take too much information in. It only happens with these subjects aswell.
Since beginning of January I also suffer from ear tinnitus, a lot worse than the years before. I normally have a bit of a sound in my right ear, but lately it's been both. I never listen to loud music and i'm in low sound enviroments. The past few days weird things have been happening, numbers showing up and the number 13 keeps showing, clocks, movies, shows even my phone randomly turns on at these times..
I went to look for more information, a number 19:15 kept popping up so I was curious, found some people who again linked to my birth month March and each time I get dizzy, am I going insane? I know i'm sound of mind, but even this for me is becoming too odd to ignore. Figured this would be the place to ask, knowing you all know much more than I do and maybe i'm not alone in being dizzy when looking up information.

I'm just so depressed. I see people complaining about their boob sizes and I know it's not easy but I'm a 34L and theirs are much smaller than mine. I don't want to belittle anyone else's feelings at all but it hurts seeing people complain and say their boobs are outrageously big ect, and they're like 10 sizes smaller than mine 🥲🥲🥲 It makes me feel like such a freak. Especially when people openly express how much they hate their boobs and how awful they look and I know mine are just so much bigger. I just want to feel more related to I guess.

Concerned, I contacted the game’s support team to report the issue, as I suspected my account had been hacked. After investigating, Dead by Daylight support confirmed that my account had indeed been compromised. However, instead of helping me resolve the issue, they decided to permanently ban my account. I replied to them, explaining how unfair this was.
