2025.01.19 12:19 Darri_oakenbear Tucson DCT potential issue?

Hi
Just took delivery on Tuesday of
Hyundai Tucson 2020 20k Diesel MHEV 7spd DCT
Was driving on the motorway earlier and went to overtake. Was doing about 60mph so went to accelerate to 70. RPM shot up but the car didn’t pick up any speed.
Pulled off at the next junction, car was going up and down the gears without issue but wouldn’t accelerate properly. It would accelerate but was hitting high revs. So I was moving but not at the force I would expect.
Thankfully wasn’t far from home so on the way back was accelerating and braking and accelerating and it all seemed to be fine again.
Is this a sign of something on its way out or a quirk of these DCT boxes or indeed something completely different?
Any ideas would be grateful as I’m considering whether to reject it or ask them to diagnose and fix
Thank you

2025.01.19 12:19 ceeesharp How do you do capacity planning?

Keen to hear how you do it in your teams/orgs, and if you have best practices to share. It's a major time suck for me & other functions right now so looking for tips, hacks, alternatives.
Here's how I've seen it happen in different companies of various stages & sizes:
Where estimation and capacity planning typically become important

  1. Roadmap planning every quarter - working out which work/ where time will be spent longer term at a high level
  2. Sprint planning every 2 weeks - working out which work/ where time will be spent short term at a more granular level
Estimations/Capacity planning in sprints
  1. Each feature is broken down into tickets and story points
  2. Capacity of team determined in story points - based on working days & avg story points per working day
  3. Story points budget worked out per bucket of work (eg. 60pct for features, 20pct for maintenance, 30pct for tech projects)
  4. Pull tickets into sprint up to meet story points budgets (including fallovers from previous sprint)
  5. Delivery roadmap updated if short term plans change any long term plans (eg. some work is going to take longer than expected which delays the next feature on the roadmap)
Note: for sprints, teams I've worked in typically focus on engineering work, other functions work not capacity planned in sprints mainly because other functions have smaller headcount and backlog of work vs engineers.
Estimations/Capacity Planning in quarterly roadmaps
  1. Capacity of team determined (eg. in FTE weeks or other capacity unit)
  2. Budget per theme worked out (eg. 60pct for features, 20pct for maintenance, 30pct for tech projects)
  3. Each potential roadmap item broken down into high level size (eg. FTE weeks)
  4. Most critical initiatives pulled on each theme up until FTE budget met. We typically don't have initiatives for support/maintenance work, we just treat that budget as something we will use during sprints for ad-hoc work.
  5. Discussion with team on priorities
  6. Discussion with exec/leadership on priorities
  7. Tweak FTE budget per theme, initiatives, priorities
  8. Delivery Roadmap updated for the next quarters or beyond.
Note: For roadmap planning, this is where product, design, data etc capacity might be included - often for major discovery work (eg. Deep dive on problem space or solution space)
Tools I use for sprint and capacity planning
  1. Capacity planning - I built a calculator that works out budgets in story points or FTE for sprints and roadmap planning that we use internally.
  2. Sprint & roadmap work - The actual committed sprint work typically lives in Jira (where engineers do planning) where as the roadmap work lives in Product board/Excel/Jira (where product people do planning)
  3. Roadmap comms - We have Confluence pages and Google Slides translating the roadmap / removing details for different audiences.
How does everyone else do it?
Thanks 🙏

2025.01.19 12:19 TraditionalWolf9363 Patterning?

Hi guys. Been doing gateway for a bit now and I’m able to get into focus 10 and 12 relatively easily.
I’m currently on exercise 3, one month patterning.
I’ve read both the gateway manual and threshold manual but I don’t actually quite understand what I’m supposed to be imagining?
Like are there any particular words I’m supposed to be saying in my mind? Any help would be greatly appreciated 😁✌️

2025.01.19 12:19 SmokeyRiceBallz NKD - Kurt Glatt 170 mm ApexUltra Nakiri

NKD - Kurt Glatt 170 mm ApexUltra Nakiri Kurt Glatt - Apex Ultra Damascus 170 mm Nakiri
another picture but with different lighting to show more of the contrast, my guess is, its a wrought iron, kind of brute the forge style iron cladding made of a horse cart axle (isnt that just cool!?), with nickel damascus surrounding the ApexUltra core with a hrc of 67
the grind is certainly interesting, the grind of the knife tapers quite a bit from a fine to a thicker convex grind, it works pretty well, can easily be compared to a Hado Laser at the tip
It got quite the belly for a Nakiri but i kind of like it. He asked if he should regrind it but for dicing veggies i actually like it this way. What i showed badly is, its flat spot is about 50% of the knife length wich works me
Another dami-clad show off picture, its just too damn sexy!
The Handle is made of a stabilised mapleburle, got an titanium bolster and is a Takedown handle (can be changed with a screw at the back of the handle); it got the same length as the blade. Super comfy to hold and just sits in your hand (kind of reminds me my Kanetsugu Zuiun heptagonal handle but way more comfy)
is balanced just a bit over the beautiful etched Logo; perfectly balanced for a good pinch grip
Nice Black Knifebox! (Even the Package it came in was Custom!)
Super professional box layout and design, the knife was wraped in bubblewrap plastic and came with a knifeguard for extra protection
in the small black packadge at the bottom was knife care oil (camellia oil)
and at last it came with a small card with all the stats and materials
There isnt much more to say...! The care he puts into his knives and amount of consideration for the customer is just next level! Totally worth its money. I used it only for a little bit. Onions and softer veggies didnt stand a chance, denser food took a bit of force but i guess is still need to find the sweetspot of the knife for that (for carrots at least). I would say its an allrounder between workhorse and laser. showed me that i wasted kind a lot of money, since it might be the only knife i might need in the future! :P (wont be but it sure is handy) It weights in at about 260 gramms which is heavy but isnt really much of a problem since its pretty well balanced). All in all its an amazing knife, it does what i expected out of it until now.
I actually found Kurt at the beginning of my Kitchenknife journey and was totally fascinated, but i didnt have the courage to get one of his knives. Now i am glad i did. ordered at the end of last year and i guess i will do it again in the future. Shipping went pretty quick, came in like 2 workdays after fully purchasing.
I am interested what you guys think. u/glatt_knives definitely makes great work. Thank you very much!
Wenn es noch etwas zu ergänzen gibt, bitte sag bescheid. Und nochmals Vielen Dank für das Messer!

2025.01.19 12:19 Ghost-Knitter Beaded head band

So, at college, I recently lost my mom's head, and I can't find it anywhere, so I am thinking of making her a new one. The unfortunate problem is that I can't remember the colours of the flowers. She found it in a thrift shop in the 80s or 90s. This is what the band looked like. And the beads on the headband, I think, had more primary colours. I hope that a store used to sell it, but the more I look, the more I think it was handmade. Thank you for your time to whoever reads this or comments. I really appreciate it 😁

Can we just take time to appreciate that Edward nowadays is 129 years old He has built the rails he himself is running on, he has outlived 3 controllers, was there when Titanic sank, outlived both World Wars, was there when first computer was invented and was there when we first landed on the Moon, was there when we first invented a phone, and he has saw the COVID spread. And what is most baffling, is the fact that he is still running!
