This post is pretty much for anyone who does not want to update the firmware of their printer; This is not a guide or walkthrough, but simply some basic steps that you can take if you would like to isolate your printer, as every network is different.
Now some might call me paranoid and to each their own, but my thoughts are that since LAN only mode is a software setting, I cannot be 100% sure there is no communication that could be had with the Bambu servers. I am not saying you should do this, just that you can.
Be sure to look up your hardware and how to do these specific tasks; For example, a Hitron modem may be accessed on your network by opening a browser and typing http://192.18.0.1 into the browser, and typing in the username and password that is on the modem itself. Other devices might have a different IP, so look it up.
- First, you will need to assign the printer a static or reserved IP address at your modem or router. This will probably be under "LAN" settings, and/or DHCP. This is necessary because your router or modem (whatever you have) assigned IP addresses to devices connected to it as it needs to. That means, that your phones IP address on your network will most likely be changing every time you get back home and connect to WIFI.
- Why is this important? Let's say you take a look at your modems web interface and find that your printers internal network IP is 192.168.1.8, so you block its internet access. That's all well and good, until the power goes out, or you have to reset the modem because your internet is acting up. Once the modem boots up, it could very well assign the address 192.168.1.8 to your computer, and a different address to your printer. Noe your printer has access to the internet, and your computer does not. Not ideal.
- Next you will need to turn on LAN only mode, and follow the steps there. Most of you will lose the ability to use the Handy app, however, you might be able to get it to work internally, as well as from outside your network with a VPN set up directly within your modem. Verify that LAN only mode is set up properly by simply making sure that Orca or Bambu Studio can still connect to the printer.
- With LAN only mode set up, you will want to block the printer from connecting to any external IP on the internet. Some modems or routers have this setting under "Block Services", on other it might be "Access Control", or something similar. Mine is under "Block Services", as "Access Control" blocks devices from connecting to my network, and "Block Services" will block a device on my network from communicating with the internet.
- You can find the specific ports used by the printer, but to be safe, I simply blocked all communication on all ports in and out.
- You will want to verify that you have not blocked your printer from accessing your network
- When you install Orca, it gives you the choice to block communication to Bambu server, which I suggest you try doing. You may need to do some research to make sure it works properly.
- If you still want to use Bambu Studio, then give it a shot, however to be extra careful, i suggest to look into how to create firewall rules on your OS. The goal is to restrict access for the Bambu Studio .exe to the internet, while allowing it to access specific, internal IP address (like the one you reserved for your printer)
- Typically, you would do this by creating an outbound rule blocking all communication completely, and then adding a second rule allowing communication for the IP address you reserved for your printer
- Do the same for inbound rules

For context.
Horizontal run goes to guest bathroom.
GFCI doesn’t have anything downstream.
Left switch is vanity light and then shower overhead light.
Bedroom and another second bedroom is connected to the bathroom circuit which means one of the lines running into the attic is supplying power to the bedroom
I’m running a second supply to the bathroom tying off a circuit in the attic (Just two outlets and a ceiling fan).
That’ll run to a GFCI which will then have a light switch and a bathroom fan added on.
All of the wiring is on a 15amp breaker. It’s not in the budget to run a whole new 20amp circuit.

First-time poster here, so excuse any wrongdoing. I recently put together a super-simple, yet highly effective DIY battle map system that’s: ✅ Portable ✅ Modular ✅ Whiteboard marker-friendly ✅ Budget-friendly
It’s perfect if you are on a tight budget or are just starting out!

What You’ll Need:
- A printer
- Thumbtacks/push pins (flat metal without the plastic cover ones work best. here are the 3D-printed safety covers!)
- (Optional) Thermal laminator + pouches for durability and drawability (is that a word?)
- (Optional) 3D printer for custom pin covers
2) Laminate for durability: If you want it marker-friendly, laminate each sheet. Trim the laminated edges but leave about a 3mm plastic margin. (img)
3) Align: Use push pins to puncture the corners where the gridlines meet. These pins will align the sheets perfectly when assembling. (img)
4) Add safety covers: For extra protection (and to avoid accidental stabbings), 3D-print these push-pin covers: (link). They also keep the sheets securely in place during gameplay, even if you move the map.
And voilà! You now have a modular battle map that’s easy to transport, assemble, and store. It’s lightweight (just a few sheets of paper) and fits anywhere. Toss some pins and covers into a small box, and you’re ready to roll!
