2025.01.20 04:10 bensonr2 Trip report Gore/Whiteface 1/18 -1/19
Took a quick family trip to the Adirondacks this weekend with my 6 year old who is in his second season learning and my non skiing wife as a ski sherpa.
We stayed Friday night at the Best Western in Warrensburg. Got in pretty late as the thruway up to Albany was brutal. FYI don't bother stopping for a meal break at the thru way rest stops on busy weekends. My wife's stomach got the better of her, she wanted hot food. She got her order in then wound up waiting 50 min for shitty Burger King so we wound up killing a full hour on a stop.
Anyway.
We got to Peaceful Valley RD about 830am, took about 30 min to get to G lot. I realize their parking situation is just non ideal but they don't seem nearly as machine like as Belleayre. I could see as the satellite lights fill up their parking crew is slow to changing where they are directing traffic and half the cars are circling back down as they close upper lots.
As for skiing Gore I had an amazing time but I can see what people were talking about with snowmaking. I was shocked core trails like Showcase seemed like they only had snowmaking on one side and were getting skiid off quickly. Also it seemed like the nearly empty snowbowl got all the snowmaking lately, though a lot of it was just frozen solid. And my kid's group lesson I was not super impressed with. Seemed like the instructor was annoyed my kid was clingy on the chair (but he did it without complaint every time). At first I felt bad that he gave them a hard time until I saw how much better he did with the cub camp instructors at Whiteface.
Whiteface... my kid had an amazing 4 hour group lesson at cub camp. I highly recommend despite the non inexpensive price for a group. Best ski school I have seen so far. The skiing was amazing too, with some caveats. They hyped up skyward and I was excited as it was closed last time I went. But it was all frozen whales. I wouldn't bother until they have more time to groom I'm assuming by next weekend. Upper skyward wasn't too bad. The whales there were mostly just at the headwall and could be bypassed. But lower was really tough. Conditions elsewhere were much better and I had an amazing day. But it was getting pretty skiid off in some key spots as the day went on. Also when I left at 2 they closed summit lift, not sure what was going on.

I just recently purchased an R36S off AliExpress. The device works good however a week later (haven't even gamed on it once yet) the battery drops like crazy. Dropped 1% within 2 minutes just at the menu (brightness 50%).
I'm wondering where I can get a battery? One on AliExpress says $1200 shipping 💀💀.
I did notice before I made this post the message said only usb a to usb c. I've been charging usb c to usb c. Is that a problem? The red light does go out though after charging.

I will be taking her this semester but I wanted to know how any of her past students feel about their experience taking her for this class. The RMP reviews say that the class is not difficult but her teaching style is, but I wonder what makes her class "easy" if she doesn't teach good? In your experience how hard is it to pass the class with at least a C and at most an A? What would you recommend to focus on, study and practice to pass? What helped you and what was something you would do differently/better if you could take it again? I appreciate all help :)
