How high or low should my birdhouse hole be?

2025.01.20 21:00 cwtguy How high or low should my birdhouse hole be?

I've built a few birdhouses for a few specific birds in mind. I see a lot of information about the specific size of the hole for which species I want to attract but I see nothing regarding the placement of the hole. Most are centered because that's aesthetic for humans, but what would a bird want? Do they want it closer to the bottom or top? Do they want it off center? I have some small little ladders built for the inside so that the young can climb out when they're ready to move on.

2025.01.20 21:00 AffectionateAide9644 Looking for upgrade but don't know jack about cars

We currently have a 2014 Peugeot 107, but it's starting to be too loud for us, and we've recently got a dog and might eventually have a baby too so we'd like something bigger, more comfortable and also more powerful for driving through mountainous areas.
I'd prefer something reliable that won't cost too much when it needs maintaining, so I was considering Toyota or Honda. My partner doesn't want a sedan and we want reasonable trunk space so we were looking at small or medium SUVs. We like to visit nearby mountains so we thought ~100 HP should be minimum engine power, but 80% of the time we're driving in the city or on highways (we're in central Europe so everything's highly urbanised around us). Fuel preferably gasoline or gasoline-HEV; we don't use the car THAT much currently (about 6,5k kilometers per year, but that should increase a bit in near future) so a bigger investment in a more economical car we might not earn back.
My partner likes the look of Kia Stonic or Dacia Duster, and a Toyota C-HR looked too sporty for them. For me, look doesn't really matter, but I'd prefer it to be fairly quiet while driving (both in terms of engine, outside noise, and how it sounds driving over those damn cobble stones this area is littered with).
What would be good brands and models to have a look at?
Thanks!

2025.01.20 21:00 Klutzy_Change_8453 Advice on dealing with Dr

So, I have a sjrogrens and had dysautonomia briefly and hypermobile syndrome. All of my illnesses are still under investigation. I have had headaches for a while that have gotten increasingly worse and terrible back of neck pain that gives me vertigo.
I saw a neurologist for the first time and had a horrible experience (please read the email attached). She responded and I'm just curious if anyone has experienced something similar. and what they did.
the email I wrote: I am writing to let you know about my concerns regarding our recent consultation on 01/17/2024. I left the appointment feeling that my symptoms and medical history were not given the thorough consideration they required.
From the outset, the interaction felt more like an interrogation than a consultation. The repeated emphasis on my anxiety, mentioned three times during our discussion, seemed to overshadow the physical symptoms I am experiencing.
I was particularly troubled by the dismissal of my concerns about a Chiari malformation. Given my developmental disability, hypermobility, and chronic headaches originating from my neck, these symptoms align with those commonly associated with Chiari malformation. According to the NHS, symptoms of Chiari I malformations include headaches—usually felt at the back of the head and may be brought on or made worse by coughing, straining, sneezing, or bending over (I explained headaches were brought on by getting up too quickly)—and neck pain.
It is also worth noting that Chiari malformations are associated with additional symptoms that I experience, such as ear ringing (tinnitus). According to Conquer Chiari, tinnitus is a common symptom of Chiari malformation, often resulting from nerve compression or fluid buildup in the brain. (conquerchiari.org) This is a symptom I experience consistently and mentioned during our appointment, further emphasizing the need to investigate this possibility.
Furthermore, stating that my headaches are not connected to my autoimmune condition, while diagnostic tests are still ongoing, felt premature. This conclusion was drawn based solely on questions and balance tests, without the aid of neuroimaging. The American Migraine Foundation suggests that if a scan is ordered to evaluate a headache disorder, MRI with contrast is preferred as it is a more sensitive test than CT and does not involve any radiation. (americanmigrainefoundation.org) As a headache specialist, seeing me only once, without performing any brain scans, and concluding that my headaches "aren't coming from anywhere" before prescribing medication also felt irresponsible.
Additionally, I felt invalidated when attempting to describe my experience with vertigo. My explanation was dismissed because I did not use the word "spinning" to describe the sensation. For individuals with communication disabilities, using precise terminology might not always be possible, and they may tell their symptoms differently. This dismissal disregarded my efforts to communicate effectively and was particularly disheartening given that I have been diagnosed with vertigo previously and prescribed medication for it. To then suggest that my imbalance might stem from an inner ear problem, without acknowledging the existing diagnosis in my medical chart, only furthered my frustration. It appeared as though my chart had not been reviewed at all before or during the appointment.
What was most upsetting, however, was that when I mentioned that many of my health issues are still under investigation, your response was to laugh. This reaction made me feel dismissed and as though my concerns were being written off as something I was fabricating. For a patient navigating ongoing investigations into complex health issues, this lack of empathy was extremely disheartening and unprofessional.
Lastly, I informed you during the appointment that Sumatriptan had previously sent me to the hospital, yet at the end of our session, you prescribed it again. This further reinforces my belief that you were not listening to me or taking my concerns seriously.
Given the lack of thoroughness, dismissive treatment, and unprofessional behavior I experienced, I do not feel that this practice is a good fit for me. I am requesting a full refund for the appointment and would like to cancel all future appointments.
Healthcare should be a collaborative process, and I left the appointment feeling dismissed and frustrated. I hope that you will take this feedback into account for the benefit of other patients in the future.
her response: I am sorry you felt that way but several things
I did not prescribe sumatriptan again--- I only sent TWO scripts—topiramate and hydroxyzine. I did not send any scripts for sumatriptan when you mentioned that you had a side effect from the drug. Ask your pharmacist who sent the script but it was not me
MRI w/ contrast is only done for patients wherein the suspicion for a CNS mass is high. You do not have any symptoms suggestive of a CNS mass. There are no red flags in your history to suggest such. Also, if you read carefully the recommendations, any kind of head imaging study—whether CT or MRI head is not indicated for headaches without any "red flags." A lot of headaches originate from the neck, in fact, almost 80 % of patients with migraine headaches mention that they have assoc neck pain and rarely do they have a Chiari malformation
Headaches associated with Chiari malformations are usually associated with valsalva's induced headaches. The fact that headaches are triggered/worsened by getting up too quick is not considered valsalva's. Almost all patients with migraine have worsening headaches when getting up too quick or with movement per se.
Tinnitus is very common, whether you have headaches or not. If you have Chiari and tinnitus, then you will have other symptoms also, which you do not have. if you know anatomy, you should realize that Chairi malformation affects the back of the head and associated with "dipping" of the cerebellum and before it even causes ear problems or tinnitus, it will cause difficulty with swallowing/breathing, speech problems and gait ataxia, which you also do not have/. Thus, having a certain symptom such as tinnitus does not necessarily mean it is associated with another symptom.
Head imaging studies are only associated with an abnormal finding in < 10% of patients. Even in those 10%, only 0.2% of findings are significant, most have incidental findings which mean they have nothing to do with headaches.
I did not dismiss your complaints of vertigo. Vertigo itself means spinning sensation, thus, I used a different term-- "feeling of imbalance." It will be irresponsible if I wrote vertigo on your chart when in fact, you are describing something else. Using a different term does not mean I am dismissing your complaint. Different patients describe vertigo or dizziness in different ways.
I was only sent ONE progress note from Dr Leblanc. That is it, nothing else. It was the note from 12/27/24. It did not mention that you were treated for vertigo with whatever medication. I do not have a crystal ball to know you were treated somewhere for vertigo.
I was NOT pre-occupied with your anxiety, mentioning it 3x is not a lot. I probably mentioned headaches more than 10 x balance problems and dizziness much more than that. So why are you not mentioning that I gave a lot of emphasis on your headache, balance and dizziness when I mentioned it much more than your anxiety, instead zeroing in on anxiety which was mentioned three times??

2025.01.20 21:00 ReedyHudds Newly single. Forget dating, can someone explain fitted sheets to me??!

Newly single M56, I've got a decent grip on life skills on the whole but eff me, I treated myself to some nice Egyptian cotton sheets, arrived today. They have NO corners, and the elastic is all the way around the whole sheet. I swear it's just a big circle and some designer is laughing their ass off.
Ditto for folding the goddamn things. Wtf. I'm going back to normal sheets and some hospital corners lol. This was NOT the thing I thought I'd fall apart on!

Has anyone tried making a knock-in cell line by using RNP for the Cas9/gRNA and then simultaneously using a plasmid for the donor template? I’ve only seen people either using 2 plasmids (1 for Cas9/gRNA and 1 for donor) or using RNP for Cas9/gRNA and then AAV for delivering their donor. Thanks!

2025.01.20 21:00 marathonog Low Water Pressure Only in Kitchen Faucet—Need Help Troubleshooting

I’m dealing with a problem with my kitchen faucet and could use some advice. It’s the only faucet in my house with really low water pressure. Every other faucet and output, including the bathrooms, has normal pressure.
I’ve already tried a few things: Cleaned and tested it with the aerator removed—no luck.
Replaced it with a brand-new faucet—still didn’t fix the issue.
For context, the house is off-grid, and the water system runs off a cistern and a water pump. Also, there’s never been a time living here that the kitchen faucet properly worked. Any ideas on what might be causing this or how to troubleshoot it further?

2025.01.20 21:00 Top-Illustrator-985 How to kill supports

I have struggled immensely to kill supports in this game. Every game the supports have almost no deaths because they have so many easy ways to get out of every single situation. Rocket being able to heal himself and having two uses of his movement and a wall climb make him feel unkillable. Half the other supports have ridiculous abilities that give them easy healing that takes little to no skill to use. When I play support I feel this too. I can play a lot of rounds on rocket or mantis or Jeff and rarely die if ever. Not sure if anyone has had a similar experience or has any advice on how to kill things when supports are hard pumping out heals all game
