I've been daily driving Ubuntu at work for about 13 years now I think, with some here and there usage before that. One of my earliest tinker memories was making Ubuntu server run on my dell laptop and manually installing a wireless driver like 15 or 16 years ago. I'd like to think that conceptually I know my way around Linux. I'm no stranger to the CLI, but my experience beyond Ubuntu with gnome (and unity) is fairly limited.
My work laptop is getting older by the day and I've been told I will receive a new one. Obviously I'm sticking to Linux because it makes my job easier, which is basically writing a lot of PHP and SQL. My daily routine consists of writing code and running it in a docker container most of the time, so basically any Linux distro will do.
What I'm looking for: - KDE Plasma, it looks refreshing and people seem to be happy with this - Ideally a distro that is less focused on LTS, it doesn't have to be bleeding edge, I'm just looking for something less conservative - While I know my way around Linux and how to solve issues I run into, I don't enjoy this being part of my daily routine. I don't want normal things to randomly break. For example I have been unable to give Discord an icon on my Gnome/Unity bar, it just randomly disappeared after an update and I couldn't get it back without spending over an hour to fix it
So far my gut feeling is telling me I should go Debian as I'm familiar with the structure, but there doesn't seem to be a "ready to install" Debian with KDE like Kubuntu would be.  | We purchased this property at the end of autumn last year. I've attached photos of when we viewed and the garden was in full show, and matched it with photos of what it is like today. We are no gardeners 😳 but I'm VERY willing to give it a go and learn as I go. What can I (should I) be doing now - UK, Northumberland? The rose looking tree is quite high, and I'd like to cut it back, but it would mean cutting an awful lot off, would that be OK? Whenever I put images of a plant in an app like 'picture this' to help me cut things back, it says 'looks unhealthy', but is that because it's now winter? There‘s I think 5 Teams that I seen play and for some reason seem to favor over the others I seen, for no particular reason really. So how do I decide on which team? So, I’m in a pretty awkward situation right now. My dad and his partner (they’ve been together for about 15 years, so I’m not sure if I should call her his girlfriend, partner, or stepmom) recently asked me if my dad is a womanizer and if he meets other women. The thing is, her instincts are spot on, and I accidentally said something that kind of confirmed her suspicions.
Now I feel really guilty because I know the truth, but I don’t think it’s my place to tell her outright. I feel torn because, while I don’t want to lie to her, I also don’t want to betray my dad.
To be honest, I’ve always tolerated my dad’s behavior even though I know it’s wrong. I just don’t want to get involved in their issues because I feel like it’s not my responsibility, and I want to protect myself from the drama.
The thing is, my stepmom has actually caught my dad doing this before, but she still accepted him. He kept insisting that she accept him and his behavior, and it seems like she eventually gave in. Despite that, she’s still questioning me about him now, and it’s making me feel really conflicted.
On top of everything, my stepmom has never really helped us, and I don’t know what’s going through her mind. It just feels kind of awkward whenever I have to interact with her.
To make things worse, she keeps texting me, asking follow-up questions and sharing how upset she feels. It’s starting to feel like she’s guilt-tripping me, and it’s making the situation even more stressful.
I don’t know how to handle this kind of situation. Should I have been more honest with her? Should I have denied it to protect my dad? How do I deal with her texts without making things worse or ruining relationships on either side?

I recently bought a 2009 Toyota iQ that’s in amazing condition. Most of its services were done at Toyota, including four consecutive years at the same dealership I’m considering now.
Here’s the situation:
The dealership quoted me £415 for a Full Service, which includes everything my car needs right now (like spark plugs, oils/filters and brake fluid changes). On top of that, they’ll provide a full inspection of the car and a detailed report on its overall condition, highlighting anything that might need attention soon. They also stamp the service book, which is always nice to have for resale value.
My trusted mechanic, on the other hand, can do the same service for £340, including parts (which I supply from brands like Bosch). He also offered to replace my brake pads for free while doing the service, which is a nice bonus. However, while he does a great job, he doesn’t stamp the service book, and he doesn’t provide a detailed report or full inspection like the dealership. If he notices something during the service, he’ll let me know, but it’s not the same level of thoroughness.
This is the first service I’m doing since buying the car, so I’m trying to decide if it’s worth paying the extra £75 (which is actually more, considering the dealership wouldn’t include the brake pad replacement) for the dealership’s inspection, report, and stamp, or if I should stick with the savings and personal service from my mechanic.
