Professionally I'm a DevOps working in data environment, on my leisure I'm currently working on a data related project and am looking for some advices.
There is this podcast I love and I would like to try making new synthetic episodes. Here is how I see the pipeline actually:
- download the episodes
- use ml to get speakers diarization
- split into chunk using the diarization to keep phrases complète
- transcript each chunks
- split each speaker voice in isolation
- finetune llm
- train ml with voice
- generate épisode script
- generate voices
- assemble
There is around 100 one hour episode.
I'm currently working with dagster for a client project so I tried to use it but it seem not be really suited for multiple batches. I was thinking about switching to airflow, but yet I'm wondering if this is really suited or if this is over engineering a "small project"
I plan to start on few episodes, maybe 3 to 5 as I'm using replicate for all the ml parts and it can become costly pretty quickly...
Any advice wanted, would be happy to hear what you think

2025.01.22 00:06 Non-taken-Meursault Taking Java to the next level: what resources can I use to learn mid-advanced Java?
Greetings!
I've been working with Java almost 2 years now and I've reached the point in which I feel comfortable using the language on a daily basis to solve production problems (I work as backend developer with a SpringBoot - Reactor stack), but I'm aware that there's a bunch of stuff about the language that I don't know about.
In other words, I'm aware that I'm ignorant, but I don't know what I'm ignorant about. Does that make sense? I don't want to comfortably fall into the slumber of competent incompetence. In other words, I don't want to get stuck as an expert beginner.
Based on my work experience, I've identified three "clear" areas where I've noticed my knowledge is limited and I know that I can do better and an additional, blurrier area that makes me uncomfortable:
- Generics.
- Exception handling and error management.
- Data structures beyond the basic ArrayList and HashMap. That is: get to know other implementations of those interfaces, other types of collections, etc.
- Working with Java without "hand-holding" tools or frameworks: I usually work pretty comfortable because the microservices I work on are already created and their build steps established (we use Gradle). But when I consider the possibility of booting a new microservice on my own (from choosing dependencies to establishing build steps and the like), I get a little anxious, I must admit.
So I guess my question is, what is next? What more should I know at this stage? What Java subjects, characteristics and features does a person with my experience level usually take for granted and is ignorant about? What resources could I use to take my Java to the next level?
Please be aware that I'm trying to stay focused on Java. I'm aware that I also need to learn more about additional frameworks and external libraries, but in this particular scenario I want to become proficient in Java alone and get to understand the language on its own really well.

2025.01.22 00:06 ObiJuanKenobi1993 I haven’t driven a car in 4.5 years
I got my license when I was 17. I drove a decent amount in high school and college. For the most part I was a careful/decent driver, though I did cause 2 accidents (one I was making a U turn at an intersection and got t-boned by a car I somehow didn’t see, the other I slightly rear-ended someone on the freeway).
I’m 31 now. Last summer I got diagnosed with OCD, though looking back my OCD symptoms started when I was probably around 22. I had a severe OCD episode that lasted for most of 2021 where I was barely functioning for most of that year and left me traumatized. Due to the trauma I sometimes dissociate randomly just during every day life. Between my OCD itself and the dissociation from the unhealed trauma, I would imagine that I wouldn’t be a safe driver. The past accidents I was at fault for haunt me as well. Nobody was hurt last time, but what if it’s worse next time?
At the very least I probably won’t be a safe driver again for at least another couple years while I continue to heal from that trauma and also get my OCD symptoms under control. Thankfully I’m able to make it work for now because I work from home and most of the places I go to regularly are either within walking distance, or are relatively inexpensive to get to via UbeLyft.
It feels embarrassing to tell people that I’m a 31 year old man and don’t drive and don’t have a car. And dating is especially difficult because a lot of women see it as unmasculine (which is understandable).

 | I was very impressed with the quality of this movie for 1915. D.W Griffith was able to make hundreds of actors seem like thousands. The civil war scenes were very convincing and still would be today. I watched Part 1 and I enjoyed the plot even if it showed the confederates as the good guys, and had some problematic scenes concerning slavery.
