i started cycling my 29 gal on jan 5, its 15 days later. i have a marineland penguin 200, and a heater that keeps the temp at 80F.
i used ammonia drops, which quickly brought my ammonia up to about 8ppm. at first i didn't realize this was too high, so i left it for about a week or so . the water also got severly yellow from driftwood in the water but oh well. it tested 4ppm yesterday, but with no nitrites or nitrates, and after research i realized its because my ammonia was too high and it was killing everything.
i did about a 50% WC last night and moved some of the decor around, which i then realized was slimy and covered in hair algae. i just tested it again and ammonia is at 2ppm. i expect this cycle to take another 2 weeks or so, which is ok. unless there is something else to add to speed it up?
should i try fritz turbo start, or is it too late? or any other products that would speed my cycle? and should i keep adding ammonia drops to maintain 2-3ppm?
as for the algae, i know it's normal but it's so ugly, so my thoughts are when it finally cycles, i add algae eaters in first to let them clean up, then add fish later when the water is clearer. is this a good idea?
i also have no plants in there rn, should i start adding them asap?

 | This guy has been with me for about 6 years. They’ve been incredibly challenging years, but he has grown and stayed relatively healthy and happy! He is inside from about Nov-April where I live and then goes outside and loves it. My husband got a new job and we moved to a new city last July. I also had a baby and along with some other stressful, life-challenges my plants have just not been my highest priority. Most of them are doing fine, but recently this guy seems PISSED!!! He is dropping leaves like crazy and getting pretty leggy. He gets really decent, indirect south-facing light and I water him when the top few inches of soil seem dry…in the winter it’s probably once every 2 weeks or so. He was losing some leaves and looking distressed so I thought perhaps he was root-bound and went ahead and repotted him. Probably a mistake….because today he dropped like 20 leaves!!!! HELP! Did I make a huge mistake? How can I help him feel settled and at peace again? What does he need? First pic is about a year after he came home with me. Was going to post this on the case that some people might not know or thought about it...
A cheap way to make a meal or instant potatoes ect. have a little more flavor is making different gravy.
You can easily make chicken or beef gravy with the flavor pks in Ramen Noodles. If your kids eat the noodles plain like mine we always have the pks lose in the cabinets.
I'll take 2+pks and add a couple spoons of flour with a cup of cold water and mix it really good then heat it on the stove until thick.
If it's too thick add more cold water if it's too thin mix in a separate bowl more flour with a little cold water and add to the hot pan
NEVER put more flour in the pan of hot gravy (it will clump) always mix it in cold water if ur gravy is too thin and add to the hot mix.

My current plans are to pay for movers for the bulk of my house. My partner (not moving with me) is going to follow me in my RAV4 with the 65" TV and 3D printer, and he's going to fly back home. I'm going to drive a cargo van with the two dog kennels, 48"x29.5", plus two cat kennels, 36"x23" stacked. This has been the only way I've figured out how to transport everyone at once. I know kennels like Ruffland are safer, but I ain't got that kind of money right now. They're safer in wire kennels than if they were free in the back, right?

Am I too old to join marines?
I am 24 years old and have been considering the marines ever since highschool. But after I graduated I got offered a sweet job with great pay but no benefits. Long story short that's been my life ever since. No structure no brotherhood no community. No insurance (health, dental ect.)
For some background I was raised on base, up until I was 12, because my dad was active duty air force. I am aware that air force and marines are drastically different. I am just referring to living on base and that atmosphere is what I'm used to and grew up with.
Now for my details. I am physically fit, (not overweight)I workout 5 days a week. I am a great runner and good at following orders. Will I have a severe disadvantage am I more likely to fail? Or it doesn't matter as much.
I'm hoping to get responses from people who joined around my age and had the same questions as I do. I am looking to get as much out of the military as possible and maybe a life career.
