2025.01.22 01:14 gerturtle Does anyone know if Cecily von Ziegesar was alluding to House of Mirth?
I am rereading The House of Mirth by Edith Wharton for the first time in maybe twenty years or so. Obviously, The Age of Innocence can be noted as inspiration for the ideas behind the series, and it’s not a secret that von Ziegesar seemed to have approached her novels from a similar life experience as Wharton.
I just couldn’t help being struck by the fact that the very first sentence of The House of Mirth is about a lower class man setting his eyes on an upper class woman who fascinates him…at Grand Central Station.
I’ve forgotten a lot of the finer details of the novel in general, but that opening had never occurred to me in all the times I’ve watched Gossip Girl. Which isn’t even to mention that I never really thought about the main character in The House of Mirth being named Lily Bart (probably not intentional, but who knows?)…
I was just curious, that maybe it’s coincidence, or has there ever been any reporting from von Ziegesar as transplanting that scene?

So. I just started reading Nightchaser by Amanda Bouchet and was immediately in love. I looked online to order the next two books and noticed the third was not out. Then I checked the release of the second book, saw it was 2020. Not promising. After a little searching it seems like she will not be continuing the series and so I decided to DNF. I just can't get invested and have the story unfinished.
Please give me all the sci-fi romance recommendations to fill this hole in my reading heart!!! I'm not looking for anything heavy on alien romance or heavy spice (unless it works with the story). Looking for books like Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet and Firefly but heavier on the romance.

I am 39f, 5’6” approx 160 lbs non smoker. I just got bloodwork results back and everything was in the normal range except my alp levels which are 136. They were 77 when last tested about 13 months ago. I had to be induced due to my placenta being grade 3. I also breastfeed. Could the elevation be related to breastfeeding? Google has me worried so any insight would be much appreciated.

Hey, we’re Hillary and Drew, and we’re working on a backpack designed specifically for bike commuters who deal with rainy weather.
The problem? Biking in the rain sucks—you get soaked, your backpack isn’t always waterproof, and when you park, your bike seat gets drenched too.
Our idea: a backpack that has a built-in rain hood to keep you dry while riding. Then, when you park, the hood detaches and doubles as a bike seat cover, so you’re not stuck sitting on a wet seat when you ride again.

2025.01.22 01:14 ItsRyeGuyy Recommendations for issue with bell
Alright so long story short, I was sold a phone plan deal by a sales person, the order went through, only for me to realize when I received the SIM cards, that it was for the wrong plan.
They’re actively saying they can’t do anything and offered me the plan I was promised … without any of the original discounts, and I believe have started an investigation to have it mitigated but I’m not sure the success rate of these types of things.
Does anyone have any experience with this type of situation and how to simply get what was promised ?
