Question about Letter to congressman

2025.01.22 07:01 Flashy-Actuator-998 Question about Letter to congressman

I am a USC, worked for govt and know how the feds operate. I learned that some people say they were experiencing USCIS delays and wrote to their congressman or congresswoman and the White House. Sure enough, reps do have sections of their websites that enable this process. I know for visas, my state dept / diplo friends who retired say that intervening and asking for a visa based on your status does nothing at all. They do not care if a senator emails them. My question is, does USCIS? Why or why not? I would imagine that if a senator is taking time to send these, he or she wants them to at least not be totally futile?

2025.01.22 07:01 WillingnessNo8269 Best stain remover for 2005 furby fur?

I have acquired a furb who has some mysterious brown stains on them (I pray to whoever cares to listen that it not be fecal in nature). I was wondering if anyone has tried any specific stain removers on 2005 furby fur specifically the caramel syrup fur texture (some of them have different fur types/textures). I suppose while I'm asking for guidance, I was also wondering if there are any good scentless ways to make the fur softer other than fabric softener? Any advice would be appreciated!

2025.01.22 07:01 hobbledehoyzz Picking a watch

I want to get a watch for outdoor activities and workouts. I am very rough with my equipment so I'd like a rugged watch. I am also preparing in joining the military ( don't worry about security, I am getting a digital watch to accompany).
I love the look of the tactix 7, but 51mm is just way too big for what I like. I am currently wearing a vivoactive 3 (43mm) and I do have a lot of wrist space left, just don't like how giant the 51mm looks. I also hate charging my watch, so battery life is a factor.
So, it seems like the Fenix 8 solar 47mm and the Instinct 2/3 are my best options. I wouldn't be getting the Fenix AMOLED, it would be the solar MIP one.
I don't mind the price difference as long as either watch lasts me a good 5 years.
Pros/Cons:

Any suggestions or experiences?

2025.01.22 07:01 WeAreTopResume Combat Ageism: A Senior's Guide to Job Searching

If you're job hunting after age 40, ageism could be a problem you need to overcome using strategy.
Once you hit a certain point in life, ageism starts to live rent-free in your mind. This is especially true when you're job hunting over 40. To some, it can be terrifying to the point of paralyzing ā€“ stopping your job search dead in its tracks.
You can't control what baggage and beliefs prospective employers will bring into reviewing your resume and the interview. However, there are plenty of factors you CAN manage strategically to create better outcomes.
In this article, we'll give you six job-search strategies for when you're job hunting over 40.
The main worry ā€“ too old, too expensive, too demanding When calls from recruiters and hiring managers don't roll in like a tsunami wave, it's easy to get discouraged. There is a pesky little thought that can creep into your head when you're job hunting over 40 ā€“ ā€œPerhaps everyone out there is looking for someone a little ā€“ or a lot ā€“ younger.ā€ With that comes a couple of questions.

The tough reality is that age discrimination is real, especially when it comes to the senior job search. It can happen anywhere, despite age-awareness campaigns and threats of lawsuits. Hiring managers are human, and sometimes, that means having stereotypes and past experiences that aren't favorable towards seasoned professionals.
1. Update your professional presence
From the ATS to LinkedIn profiles, older candidates can appear unprepared for the digital scrutiny of today's hiring process. This includes your professional presence online, which includes your uploaded resume and LinkedIn profile. Make sure all of them are up to date.
Resume formats have changed a lot over the last decade. If your resume still opens with an ā€œObjectiveā€ section, it's time to rework it. Remember, many companies use applicant tracking systems (or ATS for short) to screen resumes. If your resume isn't optimized for the ATS, it runs the risk of getting rejected before any human gets a chance to read it.
LinkedIn profile standards change quickly, as well. At the very least, your profile should be optimized and look freshly maintained. Check that your current employer of record is, in fact, still current. Also, make sure your profile includes a recent headshot. Some older professionals worry that a picture will disqualify them and opt to go without (or, worse yet, including one from 15 years ago). However, internal data from LinkedIn has shown that profiles without a picture get fewer views and less interaction ā€“ so dress professionally, smile, and look energetic.
2. Upgrade your job-search methods
Employers don't fill vacancies the way they used to. Fewer jobs are advertised in a newspaper; companies opt to publish their job openings online instead, so don't stick with an old-school approach for your job search!
Newspaper advertisement sections don't work anymore, and sending your resume to a company and waiting around for them to respond is likely to be disappointing as well. Yet, the silence doesn't mean there are no jobs out there for mid- and late-career candidates ā€“ job announcements just aren't where you last saw them!
Try widening your net. Look at LinkedIn Jobs, online job boards, and industry-specific job boards that are unique to your job search. Thought leaders and bloggers can sometimes share job announcements for employers in their field, as well. Dig around, and you might be surprised by the wealth of options you didn't realize existed.
Also, network, network, and network. As you get to the part of your life when you're job hunting over 40, you have the unquestionable advantage of knowing people in the industry, so use it!
3. Be prepared for objections
It's important to remember that in the eyes of a hiring manager, every single candidate has at least some red flags. For one professional, it might be a gap on the resume. For someone else, it might be frequent job hopping or an out-of-state mailing address. And yes, age could be a potential concern as well ā€“ on both sides of the spectrum.
Hiring managers may have reservations about your qualifications, fluency, and fit with the team ā€“ it may not be just about your age. Don't take that as a sign you've failed, and don't get defensive. Instead, try to see the situation from the hiring manager's perspective when you prepare.
Prepare thoughtful and effective responses to ease the prospective employer's worries.
4. Keep your skills current
The problem with job hunting over 40 is that experienced candidates often aren't as up-to-date on technology as their job-seeking counterparts and, thus, become less attractive to hiring managers.
Technology changes fast, so show your prospective employer that you will hit the ground running. To do that, it's important to know what technology is ā€œtable stakesā€ for the job you are seeking and also to have a sense of what the future holds.
An informational interview with the company you're interested in, combined with a careful review of the job description, should point you in the right direction for your research.
Even if you aren't looking for a job in technology, it's critical to have a level of comfort with using technology in your job search. Skype, video conferencing, and online scheduling are the new normal for interviews. Match the hiring manager's request for information exchanges: If they are asking for you to email answers to a few specific questions, don't insist on an in-person meeting!
5. Don't undercut yourself
This point is tough to overemphasize. All too often, people who are job hunting over 40 years of age are their own worst enemies. When you are dismissive of your own qualifications, make a joke about your age, or otherwise hint that age is an issue for you, you can hurt your own prospects ā€“ even with a neutral or sympathetic interviewer.
So, what should you look out for to avoid this?
6. Make sure you are considering the right employers
Yes, it's possible to work for a company that will value your experience and reward you for being exactly who you are! And, let's be honest, some companies are just better than others at doing that. So, look around and scan through your prospective employers carefully. Read company reviews on Glassdoor (with a grain of salt, of course) and ask others in your network about their experiences.
Speaking of your network, one final note: The people you know can help you find opportunities that haven't been (and may never be) posted publicly. Keep those connections active, both during your job search and while you are employed. Remember that if you make a compelling case, a position or an opening might be created for you specifically.
Is it harder to get a job when you are over 40?
Age discrimination and job hunting over 40, sadly, can be bedfellows, making it more difficult to land a job after age 40. Ageism is unfortunate. It robs our workplaces of valuable experience and remarkable contributors. And, when it comes to the employer side, there's little you can do to control it beyond filing a lawsuit if you believe age discrimination has taken place.
However, you can do a lot to control your side. Brush up your professional presence, present a compelling case by demonstrating your expertise, sharp skills, flexibility, and energy, and be prepared to address possible objections ā€“ without getting defensive.
Combating ageism in your senior job search
As an older job candidate, you might feel as though the world is conspiring against you. Yet, the reality is that the job search process is tough for everyone. Right now, a new college grad might be sitting at a happy hour, complaining to his friends that no one will hire him because he has no experience, or there's probably a middle-aged candidate out there who's convinced that they're ā€œtoo oldā€ to get a good job.
Age is relative, so stay positive. Turn off the negative news. Get a workout, go for a walk, or invest in a resume rewrite to ageism-proof your resume. Stay focused on what you can control, take the next step, and the result will take care of itself.

2025.01.22 07:01 thereegod L1 as Accounting Undergrad

L1 as an accounting undergraduate
Hi, I am a junior college student majoring in accounting. My university has the reputation of being the best business school in my country, so the lectures are pretty solid. Besides accounting, Iā€™ve also taken courses on statistics, corporate finance, investment. I want to challenge myself and take the L1 exam this August, but I am not familiar with quantitative methods, Derivatives, and Alternative investments. Iā€™d like to ask if itā€™s possible for me to start learning these topics from scratch within half an year? Will my accounting background bring me any benefits on this journey?
Thanks

2025.01.22 07:01 KillaBeeHive What can I do?

What can I do? Iā€™ve never been able to grow under my chin as full as other areas of my face. My beard used to be a lot drier so I shaved it off and started over again. Iā€™ve since incorporated a derma stamp and a mixture of minoxidil, avocado oil, black castor and peppermint oils daily after my shower along with leave in conditioner. Itā€™s a lot softer and less brittle but for the life of me I canā€™t get it to grow and itā€™s annoying me. Help?

2025.01.22 07:01 HeWhoShaIINotbeNamed Probably stupid but i need to say something before i explode

So first off, i didnā€™t know how to flair this, Secondly, i donā€™t live in a political household, my parents have never voted a day in their lives, and i only recall my grandparents (who i also live with) voting once since i was born, So iā€™m not really up to speed with all of this, but this is where social media (specifically tiktok) came in. Iā€™ve started to learn more about the political state of the US, and the more i hear, the more offput(?) i get because, i donā€™t know if a lot of what i hear is true, but it seems like it. itā€™s also making me a little angry how (this might make some people mad idk iā€™ve never been here before) our president is doing this stuff? i donā€™t really know how to put my feelings into words, but itā€™s making me a little angry how not only him, but a lot of our other politicians are worrying about things that clearly arenā€™t problems. i donā€™t know, i donā€™t have anyone to talk to about this and i just needed to rant about something i donā€™t even know the half of. thanks for listening to my TED talk šŸ˜¤ā¤ļø

2025.01.22 07:01 tootrill6 80%>79% Acceptance Rate F***ed everything up.

80%>79% Acceptance Rate F***ed everything up. Where do I begin. I've been dashing for a little over 3 months, and within the first month achieved and have been maintaining Platinum Status. Well last night I didn't take a $3 / 4.0 Mile Red Card Order for Target and it brought my acceptance rate down to 79% (Silver Status) That triggered my app to glitch out and not show any scheduling for the next week, for all zones around me.
Yes I know how Platinum status can Dash and schedule whenever, and Silver Can't - but I remember vividly when I was on 57% percent acceptance rate and I had tons of Schedule Availability open even then... Clearly something is wrong... because I dash 8 Hours a Day every day, and that one stupid fing percent change ended up bricking my account essentially. I am now getting a Error Message, and have no access to my scheduling. I have spent at least 7-8 hours today with support on the phone and on the chat, and I'm sorry but they're fing stupid. the whole support team and ideology of having them in the Philippines is UTTERLY STUPID! Genius idea! let's have our support team full of Filipinos who have no idea what the f** is going on, repeat themselves over and over again, and essentially end up no where. ah yes let's give them control, Brilliant move Doordash Upper Management! It's Mind numbing how basic things can't be fixed by their own support.
I know tons of others probably deal with this sh*t too. and the worst part is there's nothing we can do about it. Using Low paying orders as leverage against our acceptance rate is messed up. Doordash doesn't care that their poor internal support is costing it's loyal drivers money.

2025.01.22 07:01 Own_Activity9047 DAE stop functioning after a fire alarm?

I live in an apartment and I woke up this morning to the entire building's fire alarms beeping, screeching, flashing, whatever else fire alarms do, and it was incredibly loud (though it was a false alarm and everyone's okay).
For the two hours after that, my hands were shaking and I couldn't do anything. Also, the fire alarm went off again, twice, for a few seconds at a time later in the morning. After finishing my classes today, I held off on going back home as long as possible because I was genuinely afraid to go into the building in case the fire alarm went off again. For the rest of the day, for the entire time I've been in my apartment, I haven't taken off my noise cancelling headphones or my hoodie, I've jumped at every little sound, and currently I'm afraid to move and I feel like sobbing. My water bottle is empty and I'm very thirsty but I just don't wanna move. It really makes no sense, and strangely, it didn't occur to me until just now that this might not be normal.
Anyone else get this?
