2025.01.22 08:02 a1b3c6 How long can you "hold on" to an image in your mind?
Soo, in going down this rabbit hole, I've never heard anyone describe their experience with mental imagery or the lack thereof quite like how I experience it.
I can imagine things vividly in my head. However, that visualization only lasts for maybe 2-3 seconds at most before it just...slips away. Usually, it's more like a fraction of a second, as in maybe less than a half a second. In fact, the more I purposefully try to imagine particular things, the harder it seems to be to hold on to.
The common example in the top post of this subreddit is to imagine a ball being pushed off a table by a person. I can imagine in fairly realistic detail a person beginning to do just that, but I can only get a second in before it's gone. I have to force my mind back into the scene to keep the ball rolling (insert rimshot here), and even then it leaves me faster than it did the first time. In fact, the more I try to imagine it, the more details change, and the harder it gets to keep the image or idea going.
I know that most of you wouldn't consider me to have aphantasia, so I suppose I'm just looking to see if anyone out there has even a remotely similar experience. I do think I have SDAM as well, but it kind of falls in to the same territory as the above. That is, I have some memories I can "see", but only for a couple of seconds at most. There is no emotional connection to the memories either.

I'm divorcing my spouse after 4 years of dealing with the symptoms of this disorder.
During the break up and mutual friend actually pointed out to me that he has this, as his behaviors matched that of his mother who had it. I had a coming to Jesus moment where he literally had to have me read the criteria and it clicked; this is what I've been dealing with.
I'm inconsolable and enraged.
My ex is beginning therapy. Last time they were in therapy they were diagnosed with schizoid Affective disorder, and in particular the depression and delusions match; but they're in response to collapse, criticism, and need for control. He ruined the life of his ex and had minimal true empathy in hindsight. With me his actions were only to keep the relationship; once I asserted independence he was immediately done.
I've been a supply for him and this man will look me in the face and believe his lies and make me sharing hurt feelings into disagreements instead of concern for my feelings. He cannot accept any criticism has delusions manipulated me constantly needs to be in control has terrifying power fantasies, is frankly a dick unless trying to reel someone in or needs them, needed me to comply with him and be submissive, but was frighteningly insecure and jealous.
If I was not complying and showing endless love be was mean to me, but he had this cycle where I had to fix everything after.
Sadly, his life revolved around me but I had to be happy or else.
Anyway as I mentioned he's starting therapy. He's exiting my life and replacing me with a few others (moving on quickly). I don't feel he's as high on the spectrum as some but his symptoms have become more severe over time.
Is there any benefit to trying to have him address this with his therapist? I'd love him to be able to work on this and maybe be better someday. But I've never been able to get through to him before

Hi AusLegal,
I'm seeking advice on a restraint of trade clause in my employment contract as an OT in WA. I'm currently working at a large clinic in the CBD but plan to leave and set up as a sole trader in a location closer to home. Here’s the situation:
- My contract has a restraint of trade clause restricting me from working within 5km of my current clinic for 12 months.
- I’ve found a room 4km from the clinic, which is also near my home, allowing me to spend more time with my baby.
- There are two suburbs between the clinic and my new location, and I wouldn’t be soliciting any current patients. I have strong referrers who will send patients to me regardless of where I practice.
- I’m leaving the clinic on good terms and plan to refer overflow patients back to them and provide a proper handover. However, if my boss makes things difficult, I may reconsider this courtesy.
Questions: 1. Is the 5km restraint of trade clause likely enforceable in my case? 2. Does the fact that I’m moving from the city center to a residential area (with two suburbs in between) help my case? 3. How should I approach my employer about a waiver?
Any advice or similar experiences would be greatly appreciated!
