2025.01.22 11:00 TinyLittlePanda Due to loved ones experiences, I am starting to think that psychiatry as a whole is at best a myth, like astrology, and at worst a scam. I don't believe it as medicine any more.
So. My sister has been in and out of psychiatric wards since 2019. My dad since 2022. Both of them are not reluctant to get help, which is quite amazing given my dad is, well, an 80 y-old man. They go to therapy. They follow the rules. They take the medication.
A friend's friend sadly ended his life 2 weeks ago. He was followed, going to therapy and all that. A friend of mine is an addict, to both alcohol and tobacco, going to therapy and all that - did not change anything except lose a ton of money and make him go overall WORSE in terms of his addictions.
Overall, I am surrounded by people doing insanely poorly in terms of mental health, and it seems like each time, EACH time, the doctors are at best not helping and at worst worsening their cases.
Take my sister for instance : they call what she has "atypical depression" when what she has really does not look like one (more like obsessive disorder), they gave her way too strong medicines which made her pass out at work - she could have lost her job, which is pretty much the only thing keeping her sane at the moment, and the last time she went to a - very expensive, mind you - clinic they left her out with no follow-up treatment, no promise to seek extensive therapy, nothing safe from a few medications they did not bother to check if efficient or not. Guess what ? She's back to the psyc ward, again.
One can be a mistake, but all of them ? If it is not working THAT OFTEN, why is it still paid and considered like medicine, and not like tarot, or astrology, stuff like that ?
It is infuriating to let these people care for my loved ones knowing I do not have any other options. I don't believe them anymore and have to double check and triple check what they write or recommend. I had to check online, myself, for my sister's very specific issue and find out other resources than the ones given to her.
Mostly, these "therapists" are not giving us any hope. I just feel like once its psychiatric, then its over. My loved ones are going to get worse and worse, and they will never be themselves again - if they survive.

Natgas will be first to power AI, before nuclear like $OKLO, $NNE, $SMR and $ASPI scales in to the picture. In my opinion except for the low energy cost in Texas, the Permian Basin and natural gas is the reason Trump and the US starts their $500 billion AI project there.

What you should know is that companies like $AMZN, $GOOG, $MSRF, and others are looking to natural gas initially to power their datacentres.
They need reliable, high-capacity power quickly to keep up with their hyperscaling. Natural gas is cost-effective, faster to build out, got the infrastructure, less regulatory hurdles (especially with Trump) and is reliable for baseload power.
There will be a gap, a transition phase where they invest in more sustainable options like renewables and nuclear. Hyperscalers view natural gas as a bridge fuel or backup during this transition.
Investment comparison between natgas and nuclear Near Term:
Natural Gas Pros: Lower upfront capital costs compared to nuclear. Natural gas power plants can be built or expanded faster than nuclear facilities. Current infrastructure supports widespread use, offering reliability and cost-effectiveness for immediate needs.
Natural gas Cons: Environmental concerns due to CO2 emissions. (Not worried about this with Trump, will also be mitigated with carbon capture technology) Potential volatility in gas prices due to market dynamics. Not worried since offtake contracts are providing stability.
Nuclear Pros: Long-term, clean, and reliable energy source with zero carbon emissions during operation.
Increasing interest from hyperscalers for achieving net-zero goals, like partnerships with nuclear startups for small modular reactors.
Cons of nuclear is high initial capital costs and long lead times for construction. Regulatory and public acceptance challenges. Not immediately scalable for the rapid expansion of datacenters and AI workloads.
In the near term, natural gas will be the better investment due to its immediate availability, lower setup costs, and the existing infrastructure that can quickly scale with demand. Then on the other hand, nuclear is all the hype now and everything SMhaleu is mooning. $NEHC got contract with Sharon AI for natural gas to electricity and more hyperscalers are expected to come onboard Q1. It's the first of its kind in Permian Basin Texas.

Hi, I have a 19 year old dog, who has a couple health problems, manageable with medication in the morning and night. I’m leaving for a weekend trip this Friday and the guild of leaving him is eating me. He won’t be alone, he’s going to be at home with my parents who take care of him and there’s always someone with him. The thing is, that they don’t take his health seriously, I’m always the one who’s worried about him and take him to the vet when I see something wrong. Lately I’ve been noticing some signs of dementia, specifically at night. He sleeps with me, I’m the one who takes care of him. The thought of something happening to him and not being there is giving me a lot of anxiety, but at the same time I need the three days that I’ll be on a vacation. Any advice and tip will be appreciated! Thanks and sorry for the rant😅

Long story short. My ex husband filed for Bankruptcy in 2023 and has been unemployed since. He is on Centrelink job seeker benefits. Due to his unemployment I have to pay him child support as my income is a lot higher than his benefits ( even though I have majority of the care of our kids and pay for their schooling, medical and other needs) I recently became aware that he has pi coins ( lots of them like 1000) and gambles online to support him self.
Due to Bankruptcy he is not allowed to earn over a certain amount as the taxation will take it to repay debtors. It pisses me off that I am paying him a lot in child support that doesn't get spent on our kids and he is illegally making money by gambling.
Any advice 🤔
