I currently read at what I would call an average speed. But I have a lot of books in my reading list for university and it would be really great if I could read twice at fast. Can you train yourself to read more quickly somehow, just as you can train yourself to run more quickly?

Not sure if this is the right sub as little to no diy but couldn't find a better alternative.
Bought an edwardian semi 10 years ago which still needs a lot of work doing. Not sure how to go about this, whether we get a larger building firm to do everything, split it to individual trades and what, if any, we can do as unskilled DIYers.
What needs doing is:
- new front door and porce
- plugs added to each room
- walls skimming or maybe replastering
- kitchen and dining room partially knocked through. Would like the stud wall removing and new kitchen adding
- re-confugure the downstairs by knocking through from hall to kitchen .Add new back door. Add French doors to bow window leading to the garden
- replace rest of the windows. We have bow (curved) windows front and back so lot to replace
- painting and decorating throughout
- fixing and re-sending wood floors
- new skirting throughout
We'd have to remortgage to do the work but given prices have gone up in this area since we bought it would be financially viable.

2025.01.22 13:41 ForgottenWell I went on my first Tinder date today. My date showed up with her mouth sewn shut.
The first thing I noticed was her short, blond curls. They made her blue eyes shine brighter somehow, and I found myself captivated by her beauty.
The second thing I noticed was the stitches.
Sophie pulled out her phone and typed something, then I felt my phone vibrate in my pocket.
You must be Marcus! It’s great to finally meet in person! :D
I thought about leaving, but only for a split second. When I saw the cheerful way she was looking at me, I thought, What the hell!
“Should we order something?” I asked, and Sophie nodded vigorously.
We both got a small latte, I paid for our drinks, and we sat down. I awkwardly started sipping my coffee, but our short-lived silence was interrupted by another text.
Question: what is your opinion on kissing on the first date?
I looked up from my phone and Sophie was puffing out her lips.
I snorted. I couldn’t help it! She was funny!
Ohmygod I’m so sorry, that was my horrible attempt at a joke!
“I’m sorry, I don’t know if I should text you back or just talk.”

I was nervous, so I started talking about myself. I was a nurse at a local hospital, something my friends teased me about endlessly until they saw how much money I made. I was born and raised in Des Moines. I loved traveling. Oh, and I haven’t been on a date in years.
Maybe I shouldn’t have said that last part…
Sophie smiled and nodded attentively the whole time. She looked so fricken cute.
“Can I ask you something?”
Of course! :D
“Why a coffee shop if you can’t—” I pointed to my lips.
I love the smell!
That made sense. The shop did smell amazing.
Besides! Who says I can’t enjoy coffee? I was just waiting for it to cool down.
Sophie put her nose over her coffee cup, then sucked in like she was snorting a line.
I burst out laughing!
Sorry! Another lame joke!
But it wasn’t lame. In fact, this was the nicest date I’d ever been on. Would it be weird to tell her that?
Sophie and I talked for three amazing hours. I really didn’t want to leave, but I had a shift starting soon.
Would it be awful to ask for a kiss before you go?
“It won’t hurt, will it?”
Sophie shook her head.
I didn’t know why her lips were like that, but it didn’t bother me.
We leaned in, face to face, and I only hesitated for a second before Sophie grabbed the hair on the back of my head, pulling me in for our first kiss.
For a moment, the world stopped turning.
But when she pulled away something was wrong.
“Finally!” Sophie rejoiced.
I wanted to say something, but I couldn’t.
My mouth was sewn shut.
Sophie smiled a toothy grin.
“Call me if you can get rid of those stitches. I really enjoyed our date!”

My question is does he need to go back to Philippines to apply for Spousal visa? I have heard people that got married here has to go back to Philippines to apply for Spousal. I thought we can do it inside in the UK before his fiance visa expired? So far as well I included him into my tenancy agreement, he just got his bank account open, registered to GP. We so far did some of the requirements. My worries is does he really need to go back to apply? or can he do it inside here in the UK?
