2025.01.22 14:02 _blessedeternal Army planning - heavy fluff - Input requested
I haven't played 40k in the better part of the last 20 years and have been contemplating coming back to the game. This won't be intended for any GT or anything 'fancy', just casual games, most likely with a close group at a local shop. I am aware that "counts as" and whatnot tend to be a lot less strict in those environments, but I want the army to avoid situations where "Hey, I'm considering picking up a Predator but all I have is this rhino, mind if I proxy this game" situations. Every model, unit, tank, etc will be -designated- as specific counts-as and won't be shifted as proxies. This will not only allow for a better conversion and build, but will also prevent unnecessary "This is my army list, now let's go over what models are obvious" situations in the pre-game.
Now let's get to the important part. I'm considering starting Chaos, specifically Slaanesh though without the usual Emperor's Children spin.. instead, as I'm sure has been done many times before, I'm vibing on Miriael Sabathiel. I had been considering SoB/Imperial Agents and channel some old edition Witchhunters through allied guardsmen as stormtroopers, etc, but when I came across Sabathiel's story I thought to myself, 'This could possibly work just the same'. What I'm presently considering is Pact-Bound Zealots, which feels the most in-line with, as the Imperium would say, a corrupted Sisters/Inquisition framework. Primarily this will be a "all female space marine army", if people want to groan and argue geneseed crap, etc.. Chaos works the most cleanly for this goal, especially with Miriael Sabathiel without the usual rules-lawyers that like to chestpound on "the side of good".. Chaos players tend to be much more open to.. pardon the play.... Change. The generalized fluff I'm considering going with is that Sabathiel wasn't "corrupted and turned to Chaos", but that her eyes have been opened to the 'Throne of Lies' and now opposes the Emperor. She still vows to purge the unclean, yada yada, so from a gameplay standpoint, viewed more like a renegade SoB army instead of "straight chaos". Using Slaanesh as the 'god' rules because I feel it fits the best with the character, and if any god was 'less chaos', it's good ol' hippy Slaanesh, just wanting everyone to get along and... have fun..
Here's the general rundown of what I've contemplated so far: Chaos Lord -> Canoness and equivalent Chaos Sorcerer -> Possibly Canoness, most likely Inquisitor Master of Possessions -> Priest maybe? Yet another flavor of Canoness? Legionaires -> The obvious choice for regular Battle Sisters Terminators -> SoB have no termis, but contemplating taking a page out of "The Fallen" and making some monk-esque robed Sister-termis Raptors -> Easy choice here, Seraphim, no good Zeraph choices Havocs -> Again, easy sister option here Rhino -> Well, Rhino.. Traitor Guardsmen -> Guardsmen/Stormtroopers
I want to make use of the Dark Apostle/Dark Commune in some limited form, I feel it would flesh out the army's fluff nicely. I could likely make use of Ogryn if I wanted to, not saying I do want to, but Ogryn are in service to the Inquisition, just not really fielded as part of the army. Obviously I wouldn't have access to the assassins from the Inquisition, but those aren't always necessary and usually just turn into a game of 'harass my opponent until they feel obligated to deal with it'. In the Chaos list, I'd like to make use of bikers, which wouldn't be too difficult in the flavor of the army. In the Sisters of Battle list, I'm trying to find an option that wouldn't feel too out of place for Nundams (Not opposed to thickening the armor, but their height makes them problematic for most 'counts as'). This isn't a complete list, just examples
There are some SoB options I'm not interested in finding a way to field.. namely flagellants as an example, unless I find a conversion I like. From the Chaos stuff, I'm not really interested in heavily "chaos-ifying", keeping with the feel of the army then things like daemons and whatnot might seem out of place. I am considering sticking with Slaaneshi color schemes, presently leaning toward black-and-purple with splashes of silver, or black-and-'ow my eyes are on fire' green using purple as an accent color, still trimming in silvewhite.
I am open to suggestions, including -not- doing Chaos but still sticking in some way to a renegade faction. If I were to stick with a "loyal" SoB army list, while doing a renegade faction, it becomes difficult to bring in new flavor such as termi-conversions or IG without the rulebooks being launched like artillery dice. It's not that I need terminator-nuns, but it's an example I've already provided above. The plus to doing Chaos, not only does it allow for a number of conversions that loyalists tend to call foul on, but it also re-offers access to things that SoB should have but don't under the current codex (such as Land Raiders and Thunderhawks) with conversion options to include other items too
As I mentioned at the beginning, I am very out of touch with the current codecies and army lists, and out of touch with how 'strict' GW is on army lists nowadays. I'm open to suggestions

It might seem defeatist, but witnessing the glee and blame from some liberals regarding the Palestinian massacre, simply because people from Dearborn didn't vote for Kamala, is disheartening.
Just because some individuals have standards that prevent them from voting democrat on this subject, doesn't mean that you justified the massacre just because they don't vote your team. Seeing the increase post multiple times makes me realize they just want the massacre to just be quiet and out of their view.
