2025.01.22 15:52 is-normal Advice for building an Eldrazi Ramp deck
Hey everyone,
I'm looking to get my first competitive Modern deck and need some advice.
Background: I'm fairly new to competitve MtG and the Modern format. I've played a lot of Hearthstone and some MtG many years back, and I've been playing some MtGO and MtGA the past couple of months. Also got some Commander pre-cons and have been playing a bit at my LGS, but the competitive 1v1 formats appeal more to me.
I'm looking to buy all of the singles for the Eldrazi Ramp deck as it's a playstyle I enjoy, and I've tested it out for a few weeks on MtGO. The meta builds of the deck seem to have been shifting recently, however, with players opting to include Karn and build a sideboard around him.
Here are a few things I'm considering:
- Should I buy the singles for a deck that includes Karn and the sideboard strategy around him?
- Alternatively, should I build the deck without Karn and go for a different strategy with a traditional sideboard?
- Or should I buy the singles for both strategies so that I can try out both and switch back and forth between them?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
TL;DR: Fairly new to the Modern format, want to build an Eldrazi Ramp deck. Should I include Karn, or not, or buy cards for both strategies?

 | She was my childhood cat and I have no contact with my mother. I heard the news from my grandmother. I’m glad I was able to see her one last time when I finally moved the end of my belongings out of my birth-giver’s house. Otherwise I haven’t seen her in almost five years. Her name was Genesis but we called her Chicken Nugget or Nug. She used to ride on my shoulders and follow me everywhere. Belly rubs were her favorite thing in the world. Last night my cat suddenly lost control of its rear legs. Found out that it was saddle thrombus, and he was put to sleep. And I just haven’t gotten much sleep and have been crying here and there with a lack of wanting to get out of bed. Would it be dumb to call out of work for a death of a pet?
I work as a host/server at a restaurant and usually when I try to call out when I’m really sick, my boss will make me come in anyway because we’re a small restaurant and it can be hard to find cover if she can’t cover for me. So I’m worried if I call out for a loss of a pet what she’ll say. But I really don’t think I can be around people and interact with them, not being able to concentrate or randomly getting emotional throughout my shift.

 | Thank you everyone for all the help for this newby. Things are looking better. Just received my Lightray Diffuser & Cosine Corrector and adjusted my lights. Still waiting on my AC Infinity humidifier and a VPD Thermometer, Handheld Environmental Monitor, Captures Leaf VPD and Temperature gun. I have a service request in to address my concern for the fluctuating humidity reading I get on my 69 Pro controller. I have a Feit temp/RH sensor sitting right next yo the AC sensor. But the 69 Pro reading is constantly fluctuating up and down 7 - 10% every second, it's not stable.
