2025.01.23 02:28 careb0t How to make non-Steam games run with Proton GE?

I've just installed Dynasty Warriors: Origins with Lutris, however whenever I run the game with any non-Proton versions of Wine, its like the game cannot properly use my GPU and you can tell because my performance charts never show my GPU power usage going above idle/YouTube range. I decided to then add the game inside of the Lutris Wine prefix to Steam as a non-Steam game, then launch it with Proton GE through Steam once. After this I was able to change the runner in Lutris to Proton GE and launch it from Lutris. The issue is that this method doesn't work for all games. I tried doing the same thing for Pacific Drive, but it wouldn't launch with Proton GE on Steam at all. Then when I tried to relaunch the game using Lutris' Wine, it wouldn't launch at all, telling me that DX12 is not supported.
I find that I generally have significantly better performance when running non-Steam games with Proton GE but it seems like a gigantic pain in the ass getting them set up to use Proton GE, especially when Lutris is required to install the game from an install.exe/setup.exe file. This is like super frustrating. I have heard of UMU Launcher, but it seems quite complicated, and looks like it doesn't even work for a ton of games based on their UMU database site.
Does anyone have a consistent solution for getting both games that require being installed from an executable, as well as portable games to use Proton GE? Or does anyone know of an easy way to explain how to use UMU Launcher to install games that aren't on the UMU database, for either games that require an installer exe or are portable?

My eight month old has been stuck in a reverse cycle for a couple of months now and we’re finally determined to do something about it this weekend. Planning on a Taking Cara Babies/Ferber style sleep training and gradual night weaning.
He goes to bed (easily!) at 7:00, then wakes around 8:30 for an 8oz bottle, then again around 1:00am. TCB suggests 10:30 and some other time for waking your baby for feeds while night weaning. Mine wakes SO soon after bed that I’m not sure what to do. Should I wake him at 8:00? Or just try to power through with popins until the suggested 10:30? 8:00 just seems so absurdly early.
He is offered a bedtime bottle around 6:30.

Like 2 years ago, we got 2 kittens named panther and luna. A friend found feral cat with babys so when they got old enough we adopted 2. Luna is shy to this day and she rarely comes out to play or for attention but panther is chill. Ever since he was a kitten, I would give him lots of attention. I would play with him, his favorite toy is the worm one, and I even trained him to come to me on command. Even though I spent all this time with him, he l8kes my brother better for no reason. He got so attached to my brother, he would follow him around the house and always be around him. Panther doesn't like me even though I gave him so much attention. He is always following my brother. I am currently a student going through high school in various concert and big band jazz programs. I have really taken a liking to jazz opposed to concert band and almost always put my practice time into my jazz technique. I am using a Jean Paul student alto sax with a Vandoren V16 A6M mouthpiece. I have always loved playing my horn but not sure if I should upgrade. I go to a large high school and the jazz program is quite prestigious and difficult to get in. I am also involved in a lead alto position with a different jazz group outside of school in a district jazz ensemble. After high school I don't plan to major in music or go to music school exclusively but more so play for my personal enjoyment. With all of that being said about playing alto, I currently play tenor in concert band but I am using the schools instrument which I believe is a YTS-23. The school tenor I play has never been a good experience as there are leaks and sticky keys all over the horn. I have always been interested in having a tenor of my own and have always preferred the tone and range of a tenor saxophone over the alto. Just looking for some other opinions on my situation. Anything helps! Thank you!

(infp) Have had a few INTPs in my life that I've frequently found myself puzzling over a bit. I'm gonna mind-dump before I even get to my questions (check the end).
I've found INTPs very trustworthy in social situations. We develop rapport and trust quickly. They value authenticity. They're really refreshing, and it's easy to be on the same page and ride a weird cerebral wavelength with them naturally. It's a true vibe
A bump I find is when there is a sudden switch where they appear completely lost with me, and they just kinda look at me like I've switched languages. A separate bump: I see them get into VERY agitated moods when they perceive a value of theirs being stepped on. Common trigger seems to be when they witness a social interaction they perceive as fake. I assume this is because INTPs have a hard time with social stuff in the first place, and people being inauthentic is something that really throws a monkey wrench into their whole processing system. They seem sometimes to not be able to accurately assess when someone is being fake or genuine but will be quick to decide another's intentions, get a little antagonistic, and place value on it – which is a lot like the INFP stereotype/tendency. (Also they're quick to rationalize instead of identifying an emotion behind a belief system or thought pattern)
I don't really understand how they could perceive us INFPs (or just people) as emotionally blinded and unreliable while sharing similar traits/tendencies.
I guess there's been times when I've felt somwhat unfairly demeaned and undervalued by INTPs, and it's sad because it feels like the camradery disappears for a moment. I tend to really value their input but get the feeling it's not in good faith at all times. And aside from the role my own insecurity in all that, I want to know if they really know their own role in that. There's been times I've brought it up and have seen them evade/shut down a bit. Is that because talking about it would require depth/vulnerability?
One of my favorite things about anyone is when they are aware of their blindspots or even just aware that they have blindspots. INTPs I've known have this trait, but sometimes I've seen the total opposite, and it's often a quick switch. I just want to hear what experiences you guys have of this.
More direct questions: 1 - Is the way I'm puzzling over these INTP traits similar to how you guys puzzle over INFPs? 2 - Also, are you aware of it when emotions or other human-limits... take the reigns in your mind? Is it something that takes older age to notice in yourself? Is it something that causes some shame or frustration? What do you want from others in those moments? 3 - What do you have to say for yourselves? (jk) Do you ever called out for being intellectually bullies? How do you respond to this?

Key players:

My mom moved to independent living near my brother about 3 years ago. During that time, she's frequently asked to both a) go back her home to where she was previously living and b) move to assisted living. Basically, expressing low-level dissatisfaction with her current situation, but unable to articulate specific reasons for moving.
In assessing AL options, we looked at a few factors:
We've been looking at AL places since last summer, and eliminated a couple because she would have run out of money about 5 years before her realistic life expectancy. We understood that any move would require compromises, but ultimately picked a spot 5 minutes from my brother and SIL. She moved earlier this month. I was a skeptic from the start and I'm now convinced it was a mistake. My aunt -- who previously took the position of, "Prioritize her happiness, don't stress about the money" -- now thinks it was a mistake. My mom thinks it's a mistake. My brother and SIL are the only ones who haven't been looped into the conversation (at least, not in the last few days), because they have made a huge sacrifice by having her live near them and I don't want to add to their stress. ("No good deed goes unpunished...")
Now that she's moved, my concerns center on the fact that I think she's at an AL place that doesn't have facilities that match her abilities. For example, I understand that most AL places don't have staircases for residents because it's a fall risk. My mom will walk 5 miles a way if she could, and always took the stairs at her apartment/IL because she liked the exercise and could look outside. Her new place has locked stairwells and the hallways can be walked from end-to-end in about 2 minutes. She's not going to enjoy a chair exercise class. She would happily play bridge 7 days a week and win; her new place has bridge 1 day a week. You get the picture.
I'm stuck on next steps. I told her today, If I'd called you after a few weeks at college and told you I wanted to come home, you'd tell me to suck it up because adjustment is hard. And she gets that. And I get that no option is going to check every single box -- it's about compromises. But my concern every time we discussed her moving was, "What problem are we solving for?" because I knew that none of the complaints we heard in IL would disappear with AL. Just because she said she wanted to move to AL didn't mean it was necessarily the right move. And now she's in AL, unhappy and I'm concerned it will accelerate her cognitive decline.
We have her old IL apartment through the end of February, and presumably could tell them we're coming back. A friend whose mom is has dementia said to me, "Tell the AL place what concerns you! You mom isn't pooping in the hallways or getting violent -- they're not going to kick her out just because you express concerns." But I also realize that AL or MC is inevitable, so do we just tell her to suck it up? Before she moved I told myself, "Better to move to AL a little too early than a little too late." And now I realize, you can move too early. I hate this stupid disease. Any suggestions?

I'm looking for canvas zipper pouch bags, but I seem to want an atypical size, about 13"x9", bigger would work. I have one I can get from Amazon, but it has an inner membrane that can flake over time, and the colors are inconsistent. I'd like to get something made out of heavyweight cotton canvas. Cosmetic, bank, and tool bags are typically too small, while folio bags are too large. This is the right size, but the wrong material, and I'm sorry, I've never heard of a notary bag >_<. Any ideas? Also, can heat transfers be applied to waxed canvas if I want to go that route ?
