I’m not Filipino but I am Southeast Asian and get mistaken for a Filipino all the time.
Every single time I go out someone would speak to me in Tagalog and I would tell them I don’t speak Tagalog. And they always give me an offended look as soon as I start speaking in English. They just stare at me but also their smile would fade. I’ve even noticed service level going down.
I’m sorry but what did I do?

On Sunday, I will be moving from WA to TX and will be driving my 97 Camry full of everything I own. I will be driving down the coast to avoid driving through Colorado this time of year. Day 1- driving to Carmel CA, 872mi; Day 2- to Phoenix AZ, 701mi; Day 3- to Balmorhea TX, 624mi; to Austin TX, 388mi. I’m worried that driving for a little over 14 hours on the first day is going to make it harder for the remaining days- any advice? Ive never driven for more than 8 hours in a day before. Im wondering if it might be worth it to leave a day earlier and find somewhere to stay halfway between WA and Carmel CA. Any advice on how I can make this road trip fun and easy would be very appreciated! This will be the furthest I’ve ever been from home.

 | The black is the well supply line. The white is pex running to the pressure tank. The supply line is frozen outside underground (apparently wasn't buried deep enough), so I'm trying to run some hot water through it to melt the ice. That's why Stoicism can appeal to the emperor himself, the slave Epictetus and us. Our shells and roles are vastly different, but we are united in being human, and feel the same love, the same anger, the same desire to live authentically, the same endeavour to live morally and mortally. Since the will is free, we are also free. We can be forced to act in a certain way, but there is no one but ourselves who controls our will, our reactions and thoughts.
What does it mean to be human?Science cannot help us here. Science assumed that humans and nature are purely material, but Viggo points out that this is just an assumption, and nothing more. A plausible assumption, but still an assumption.However, wise men and traditions have always spoken of spirit and soul.
Aurelius writes: ‘Things can never touch the soul, but stand motionless outside it, so that unrest can only arise from imaginations within.’ Even though we are more technologically advanced today, have we become wiser?Do we understand what it means to be human? I would say no.I would even say that we are less developed in this aspect.And I think this ‘book’ shows that.It has been read and admired for almost 2000 years, by slaves, bourgeoisie and nobility alike - it touches on what it means to be human.
So while our shells and roles are vastly different, we are alike in our ability to feel, think, love, desire, list goes on. To me, that’s what it means to be human, and that’s why Aureliuses work is relevant for us today :)

24f. A month ago I had quite a bad fall ice skating, fell backwards on the ice and landed very hard on my butt.
I had a large bruise on my lower back and my tailbone was very clearly bruised. I had pain in my hips too, but after a few days this all went away.
However, 3 weeks have passed now. The past week and a half I have been getting intense (and at times quite severe) lower back pain, corresponding to where the injury was. It’s getting worse each day so I am quite worried as surely this should not be the case?
Today the pain was so bad I could not even bend over. I think it feels muscular but I’m not sure. I’m an active person usually, and this pain is impacting my ability to be active right now.
I’m not sure if this is something I should be seeing a doctor about. Or at what point I should seek medical advice?
(My parents told me to not go to the GP as the injury will just take time to heal on its own. I am seeking advice here for a second opinion as several times in my life I have had illness, injuries or broken bones where my parents have made me feel as though I am overreacting and not taken me to be seen. I have had lasting issues from injuries in the past that they made me feel I was exaggerating on and advised me to treat from home (large painful scarring on a deep cut that should’ve been stitched, issues with movement after a fracture)).

I’m in the process of securing my dual citizenship and need to visit the Belize Consulate in New York to submit my paperwork. However, when I looked up the location on Google Maps, I found multiple reviews stating that the consulate either doesn’t exist or was empty when people arrived.
I’ve tried calling several times but only reached voicemail. It seems like others have had the same experience. Has anyone successfully visited the consulate recently, or does anyone have updated contact information?
