Im active duty and looking to cross rate. I’ve already talked to the ECM and he’s said I may have a “wish list” on which NEC I would like but it’s obviously needs of the navy too. So, I’m looking for opinions from active or former IS’s on which NEC is the most fun or interesting or whatever you want to call it. I understand the job can’t be gone into in detail but it’s so damn hard to find anything about these jobs and I want to get as much info as I can.

2025.01.23 17:03 MattCaseyAuthor Are comets, meteors, and other astronomical events wreaking havoc on Earth a common writing trope?
So I'm writing a sci-fi/horror novel that is set in a world where some event causes every woman between 13 and 50 to give birth spontaneously. I was considering having the cause be a mysterious comet that's discovered in the prologue, but making it not very clear in the novel about what the cause is, and often dropping hints that the cause may be something else entirely different (a nuclear meltdown in Russia; a biological weapon attack in the Middle East; a strange virus that originated in South America) but I feel like the comet/meteoastronomical event is sort of a trope in sci fi writing and the like.
I was thinking of maybe the origin being some escaped scientific experiment that has been infected with a new virus to test, but that also feels trope like as well. What do you all think?

We’ve been using Printix across our clients for years with great success. However, starting in September of 2024, we’ve had nothing but trouble, including:
- Printix-based printer icons going unresponsive (trying to print to one would crash the app you’re printing from) with the only solution being uninstalling/reinstalling the Printix agent.
- The Printix service failing to start on boot, requiring a uninstall/reinstall of the Printix agent.
Can anyone corroborate the problems we’re seeing?

Hi, I'm confused, so I decided to ask.
About an hour ago, a mod post went up that links are now banned on this sub. That post is now locked, hence this.
Am I to understand it that all links to external sites are now prohibited, or is there a list of sites that are allowed? Lots of the community uses sites like fabrary or fabrec and I usually point people to those. Am I in for a ban in case I link to those as well?

I'm currently learning to drive, and I've always been afraid of having to get my license in case I got too nervous with the instructor.
I've taken a few lessons, and I feel like my social anxiety is really affecting my ability to gain confidence. My instructor is quite serious and doesn't tell me anything I do well. I don't know if I take it too seriously because of my anxiety or if I'm actually doing very poorly.
How has your anxiety affected you when getting your license? Do you have any advice?

Hey all. My partner (40M) and I (32F) are going to Costa Rica at the beginning of next month. We've booked places and I'm hoping for some feedback about the amount of activities we're doing, and whether we should try to do more, or scale back (or if we're missing anything super cool in either place/on the way). We're both fairly active (can whip out a 6-8 mile hike as desired) and like walking around the placed we're visiting, eating tasty food, and finding awe in nature. We're interested in seeing wildlife. We usually bring card games/cribbage and like to sit at restaurants/bars/coffee shops and play/hang out. We're planning a busier first part of the trip, and a more relaxed second part of the trip - we don't like to be booked solid, but like to have activities and some structure to the days. Here's what we've got:
Day 1 (Arrive Liberia)
- Fly into Liberia, stay at Hilton Garden Inn
- Any suggestions for things we should check out near the airport this evening? We won't have a car, but are good walking or taking public transport
- Get our rental car at 9am, head to La Fortuna
- Considering a stop at Rincon de la Vieja or Rio Celeste on the way (or could do this on the way to Potrero later)
- Any stops on the way we shouldn't miss?
- Get to La Fortuna in mid/late afternoon - explore town a little, get our bearings, walk around in the woods at our AirBnb
- Arenal Volcano hike (El Silencio, 1968 Lava Trail?) OR Fortuna Waterfall hike OR Mistico Hanging Bridges
- Coffee & Chocolate tour at 2pm
- Canyoning adventure starting at 7am
- No plans yet for afternoon/evening (more hot springs? couples massage somewhere?)
- Arenal Volcano hike (El Silencio, 1968 Lava Trail?) OR Fortuna Waterfall hike OR Mistico Hanging Bridges
- Baldi Hot Springs
- Considering a stop at Rincon de la Vieja or Rio Celeste on the way
- Beach days at Playa Conchal, Playa Penca, Tamarindo, or Playa Flamingo (alone or in combination)
- Considering a Boat & Rum tour - any recommendations?
