Recommendations for decent home computer

2025.01.24 03:01 sheemee1112 Recommendations for decent home computer

Hi there! I’m sorry if this is a fairly common question. I’m looking for a decent affordable ($250-$400) computer for school and work. The worst I’d put it through is probably Roblox, just something that will work well for a good while. I don’t necessarily need a laptop and Ive heard they typically have a pretty short lifespan. Any recommendations? Thanks in advance!

2025.01.24 03:01 luckyday707 Best place for convention staff dinner

Bringing my staff to a convention in Vegas at the convention center, everyone staying at Tuscany and resort world hotels, probably 8 or 9 of us.. Ideas for a fun dinner night before convention? I’m not looking for a huge $ bill, but want it to be fun vibe and decent food. Tuesday night, 3 weeks away, so needs to be somewhere I can get a reservation still.
Thanks!

2025.01.24 03:01 _HansiLa_ How To Perform Live In Los Angeles

I wanted to share updates about the LA Synth Club now that we're hitting the about 2 and half year mark. Specifically, regarding performing.
Patch and Play Synth Open Mic: This happens the fourth Thursday of each month at Lincoln Beer Co in Burbank (Except this month it's 1/30 due to a brewery event). You have up to 15 minutes for a set. Sign-up is on site. Some artists play prepared sets while other may just have one piece of gear and go completely off the cuff. It's a good spot to play if you want to get your live performance feet wet.
Old Towne Pub Show "Electronic Music": We've now secured a regular spot the third Sunday of the month. It's $5 cover and usually runs from 8pm to 11pm. The lineups here are set up in advance but, as of right now, there's typically space to get in an upcoming lineup.
Other Shows: We have another show about to be announced near USC and periodically play at Alex's Bar in Long Beach. We're also working on a possible show in Ventura County soon.
The best way to get more info is on our Discord or Instagram but I won't post any links just in case it veers into breaking rules here. However, shoot me a message with any questions.
Hopefully, this gives someone out there the nudge to take their work live. I toiled for years trying to come up with a set and then play live and hope to make it easier for others out there!

2025.01.24 03:01 cusman78 Gorilla Attack on PSVR2 - Complete Impressions

I have uploaded gameplay from my fresh experience with the game here if you want to see how it looks / plays. My completed game impressions are shared below:
Based on my time with it, I am neutral on whether to recommend for or against playing Gorilla Attack on PSVR2.
I am classifying it under Other Games in how I organize PSVR2 games I cover with first impressions on my YT channel because it includes multiple modes that each feel experimental but competent within their limited budget game scope.
The game offers a Tutorial (0:45) that does a good job of explaining all the gameplay mechanics except faster movement that can be activated by pressing L3 (sprint). It covers basic movement including jumping and climbing buildings. It covers smashing buildings with your hands, by grabbing and throwing vehicles or rockets / helicopters / tanks, or a charge-up attack that becomes available after you cause enough destruction to give you a horizontal blast radius attack that smashes everything in a small radius. It also teaches you how to score points by catching Zeppelins and to eat Banana to restore health you may have lost to attacks from rockets / helicopters / tanks.
Free Play (3:55) is the sandbox mode where it puts you in a big square grid city area and you are free to go around smashing buildings and cars and try to collect Zeppelins flying about higher up for extra points. As you do, the city responds with Rockets, Helicopters and Tanks that will attack you and do damage. This mode should feel most like the classic arcade Rampage game, but I think the city opposition in terms of escalating number of Rockets, Helicopters and Tanks it sends at you is too slow (9:20). This mode only ends if you lose full health (if / when they step it up?) or choose to quit because it isn't engaging enough to continue (10:30). This mode has potential to be more fun if they can ramp up the city response and send more Rockets, Helicopters and Tanks faster.
Challenge (10:55) mode is 5 different challenges which give different experience using the same core gameplay mechanics.

The game is featuring a Platinum trophy which will unlock for you if you can complete all 5 challenges and do x count of certain gameplay actions like destroying 100 buildings, 50 rockets, etc. The trophies are tracking so you will know how many more of those actions you need to do. It is all Gold trophies and then the Platinum.
Graphically, the game has simple art style but everything looks crisp and clear with no signs of reprojection. The destruction is not great, but bad either. Visually what I found most interesting was climbing tallest building as regular size gorilla because you really feel small and everything looks big and far and you get really high, but when you are big destructive gorilla, everything looks small and it is the same assets, just changing your size / perspective within that game world.
Audio is basic with a soundtrack and some voice-over callouts as you smash stuff. The sound effects are directional enough that I could tell which direction to look for helicopter. Haptics are present for controllers for various interactions, but it is not using headset haptics for when you take damage.
Settings wise (0:20), there is setting to play seated or standing and it offers option between snap turns and smooth. It also has option of free walk or teleport and has vignette setting that can be disabled. Lastly, there is height calibration, language selection and audio settings.
The best thing I can say about this game is that it feels competent but experimental. I can see the potential for it to be more fun (like classic Rampage) but it is too chill in the Free Play mode for a game where you get to smash stuff for fun. The Challenge levels are each doing something interesting but they are each one-off instead of being a series of similarly themed Challenge levels. I mean, there is just one Parkour idea level where you have to climb over to keep going forward and can't smash buildings to get past like in regular play where I think it could have series of such levels. Similarly, there is just one Size Matters level where you have one tall building to climb as regular gorilla which felt oddly good (to accomplish) where I think there could have been a series of climbing related levels. Similar for the rest.
The worst thing I can say about it is that it is aiming to attract trophy hunters looking for easy Platinum from a short inexpensive game.
All that said, at the budget price point this has released, it isn't unfair for it to be so short on content while giving competent experiences that at least show potential of the ideas that make up the sum of this game.

2025.01.24 03:01 Excellent-Question18 Pats vs Jets outlook

Which franchise is in worse shape heading into next season? Pats seemingly have a potential franchise QB, but the rest of the roster (outside of Christian Gonzalez) is pretty much void of talent. Jets have 2 WR1's, a great RB and a really good D line, but a huge question mark at QB. What are your thoughts on the outlook for these rival franchises, Jets nation?

2025.01.24 03:01 The_Biblical_Church Why do some members drink caffeine?

What could possibly be the justification for it? Caffeine has been discouraged throughout the entire history of the church. When the Word of Wisdom was written, tea and coffee were the only sources used for caffeine; this means that the Word of Wisdom was effectively a ban on caffeine. Why do you drink caffeinated soda and energy drinks, brethren?

2025.01.24 03:01 cemysce CPU advice for backup server? (10 24TB drives in single RAIDZ3 vdev)

I'm building a backup server and specing out a Storinator Q30, running TrueNAS Scale.
I have mostly figured out my drive configuration (10 or 11 Seagate Exos 24TB SATA drives in single RAIDZ3 vdev) and how much RAM (256GB) using various calculators and guides, but I haven't been able to figure out my CPU requirements. These are the 3 lowest/cheapest options I have with that Storinator:

This will only be used as a backup server, not running anything else. So I'm only concerned about the CPU usage during monthly scrubs and any potential resilvering.

2025.01.24 03:01 NunchiDreamer Tense/tight ankles

I started tap class as an adult two years ago and I absolutely love it! I'm currently in intermediate.
I'm in physical therapy right now for an old foot injury that affected my ankle mobility. I only noticed it when I started taking ballet but it doesn't affect my tap too much. The problem is that with this PT I'm working on strengthening my ankle which is good, except the strengthening is causing me to tighten my ankle muscles too much to where my teacher is actually noticing it's affecting how I tap. I also have almost no core strength because all my dance focus has been on my legs and feet. So with the lack of core strength I'm actually using my ankles to balance and stabilize myself. I stretch before class, shake my ankles out, all the stuff, but I don't know how to retrain my body/ankles. I would love some additional advice. I know I need to strengthen my core but it's my least favorite thing to work on and I have no motivation the second my abs start hurting after a few crunches.
